Curiosity question - does anyone use trap parts for trapmaking?

Like title said, or is just cluttering crafting bank space?
Just wonder, does anyone use it to make traps in quests, because I saw no one.
Heavy lore players, perhaps? If we have that kind.

Someone must. I regularly sell mechanical trap parts on the plat AH. I don't get a lot for them, but they almost always sell.

I have been using trap parts to clog my inventory for years!!!

The mechanical trap parts can be used to craft thieve's tools. Pretty much the only useful trap part.
Very cool. Thank you. I didn't know that. May start making my own Thieve's Tools.

Web/Glitterdust traps are useful aoe cc that stay on terrain for some time, so can affect more enemies than just initial ones.
They have scaled dc with device/int and do not switch weapons.
We used them with success in private duo party with my friend.
Might not be effective in larger random party without communication/tactics that run as fast as possible.
It takes a moment to place a trap and there is cooldown, but it costs no sp and is active for 5 min to trigger (can be prepared as backup when running back).
Problem is that enemy must move close enough to activate, but you can direct them by running straight through with aggro.
You can place multiple traps before harder fight and then kite enemy groups.
It is cc supplement option for arti and more possible actions to do on less spell related rogue or dark hunter.

They are cluttering bag space for now.

I used to play a roguish type when I was curious how to make those traps.
After I used them, I determined that they are too slow and too parts intensive.
I personally think Eschew Materials should also work for trap parts.

Why not just play a caster then or 18wiz/2rog arcane trickster then?

Yep since they scale with skill they may not have a long duration, but their DCs can be pretty monstrous, great when you're able to have some prep for incoming enemies or at chokepoints like doorways etc, though some group communication can be necessary to really make the most of them. Also, Xoriat eyeballs die from blindness so glitterdust can be a persistant AoE instadeath cloud in certain quests :) I like to use hpnotic pattern too when running some of the eveningstar challenges too as the very visible AoE can be good for seeing which direction enemies are coming from.

I tried some traps once. Several years ago. Too much hassle for too little effect for me.
Oh yes indeed. Traps are very much non-optimal. I just enjoy using them and the grenades you can make but I would never recommend them in a build or in giving levelling advice or anything like that. And as someone who does enjoy using traps, I still end up selling or throwing out most trap parts because I accumulate like a thousands times more trap parts than I'll every actually use for traps. Especially the base mechanical parts.

As a side note, if you play a trapper who does not use trap parts, and routinely dump your bags in the crafting bank, go through the bank periodically and pull out all the trap parts and trash or sell them. It clears up a decent bit of space.

I have one rogue who does use them. When I remember to make some. My ranger occasionally does a trapper life. I like to lay down a series and then fire into the mob and watch the skies light up as they rush me. The damage is minimal but the joy is infinite.

There is a setting where you can stop picking up trap parts when you disable traps. I activated that many years ago 😇

I occasionally will create a stack of +5 picks and place them in the guild chest for peeps to pull.

I don't make traps too often, and don't use them too often as well. There are a couple of places where I absolutely like to use them though! 👹

+5 tools start dropping in chests around level 13-14 I think. I always get a lot more than I use on every life. No need to make any.

You can make them. I have so many +5 thieves tools from just random loot that I will never have to worry about it. And the difference between +4 tools and +5 tools is only +1. You can buy the +4s from one of the vendors with enough favor so hardly worth the bother.

They are really nice to make on hardcore, but i don't know if we will have another one of those.
