dark apostate clonk

years ago when i first started DDO, i played a clonk and i really enjoyed it. the math added up (+4 WIS from stance>>+2 from capstone) and there was no PRR/MRR. things have changes, but does anyone have any thoughts on a dark apostate clonk? i am off to the builder myself, but just curious

It would be neat to see it work. I don't remember how many DA abilites proc on hits except the imbue, and that has to be a favored weapon, which you'd have to do in sacred fist, unless you did dagger or quarterstaff.

I think every time i mapped everything out in my head for a handwraps clonk, it just worked out better as a sacred fist thank dark apostate, but i'm not always great at thinking through things.

Monk gives HAMP, not negative HAMP, so that can be a challenge. I found Dark Apostate healing tough to manage. Pale Master/Monk might be an interesting build?

You need to use Favored Weapons for Apostate's Curse and ki weapons to stay centered, so your options for monk / Dark Apostate would be:
  • Aureon (staves)
  • Sovereign Host (longsword w/Whirling Steel Strike)
  • Blood of Vol (daggers w/Vistani's One with Blades)
  • Silver Flame (longbow w/Zen Archery)
  • Olladra (sickle w/Prescient Curve from GMoF @ level 23)
  • Divine Dream (handwraps, req's Sacred Fist)
Technically you can use other Favored weapons like scimitars (Undying Court), falchions (wood elf), dwarven axe (dwarf racial enhancement), mauls (Silvanus), etc. as a monk / fighter / Dark Apostate with Tier-5 Kensei to make them ki weapons.

Forgot about kensai. yeah.

Another thought is that 2013 Clonk was great spamming blade barrier and getting super heals from vampiric stonedust wraps--reaper's self-healing penalties have negated a lot of that fun.

DA/Monk
Monk 6
Dark Apostate 14
(Heal skill covers both neg/pos)
Utilitising the Henshin tree as opposed to the Shintao.
Staff build using Bloom out of ToEE
Back up at level 8 with acid calamitous for the DoT
(These two staves can be used up to 20)
Any raid staves you may acquire.
Build it like a two handed Monk
Using DA for buffs/defense
heal/favored weapon.

The logical way would be 1 level of Sacred Fist for Handwraps or go Quarterstaffs tbh. But...
Shortswords (Vulkoor) are an option - Ninja Spy w/ Drow.
or Warhammers (Onatar) with T4 Dragon Disciple

Dark Apostate doesn't really mix well with monk I think, but there is potential synergy with Force/Fire attacks in Henshin.
T5 Henshin or Dragon Disciple is a great way to get +1 Range and Multi for melee (+ other nice perks).

Ideas:
  • Drow w/ shortsword. Can either TWF or SWF
    • note: can be centered w/ orb from Dragon Disciple
  • SWF Warforged centered Warhammer (no body feats or you'll uncenter!)
    • note: Shadow form will make you immune to repair spells
  • Fire Domain Tiefling Quarterstaff
    • they recently buffed Scorching Ray - so the SLA should be fun
    • take qstaff attack speed from Henshin or chuck in Trickster/Rogue for Thief Acro & mixed magics
    • Henshin 'fire spells'

Isn’t one of the possible domains one which can cast Holy Sword?

I have a fun toon at cap that is a dhampir 12 monk/5 dark apostate/3 Atr. Negative ki bolt (limited but powerful where it works); WSS mediocre melee; Darkhallow healing; mixed magics makes inflict spells hit hard enough too, high negative hamp with dark bargain. Domain for displacement.

Why do I have 614 ddo build files

War Domain gets Holy Sword at 14. Being +1/+1 competence makes it non-stacking with most T5 crit boosts though. Most modern DPS trees have +1/+1 in their T5 these days (like Dragon Disciple), and Universals ~have it in C4.

It's mostly used for trees that don't get crit bonuses (like KotC, balanced around Holy Sword; or a Radiant Servant T5 Pally) or splits with just +2 to range or multiplier in their T5 (DL, FB, Ravager) to get +1/+2 or +2/+1 overall. 14/5/x Cleric/Barb sorta vibe; or 14/5/x or 15/5 Pally/DL (since Pally has Zeal as well, for +10% bonus DS).

Part of why Warpriest feels bad; only having +1/+0 in their tree (and in C5 so you only get it at 18) so you pretty much have to use War Domain to get your crit profile, and even so you're losing half the value of Holy Sword so that feels bad too. War Soul at least gets both, although at 12 & 18. Definitely not what I would consider a modern DPS tree lol.

Why doesn't Dark Apostate mix well with Monk ?
Wisdom based healing and wisdom to hit and damage with a main focus on staff wielding two-hander in Henshin...
Melee with buffs/debuffs and negative healing. Not focusing on monks heal amp, just bonuses to heal skill and mainly for the stances.

What contradictions are you seeing that I don't see...?

I think normal cleric works better with positive healing tbh. Unless there is some monk ability that heals you for lots of negative I'm missing - positive is just all round better and synergises better with trees like Shintao.

The main problem with DA shadow form is the lack of negative healing amp available - you only get 5 per DA core and none from Monk.
Plus it makes it harder for others to heal you. As someone who exclusively plays reaper, this is important to me.
I also think the Dark Apostate tree is super lack-luster, even as a spellcaster. The evil imbue & extra dice are good, but that's about it tbh.
The negative spells SUCK offensively until you get mass or harm because of the very short range and necessity to face your target (i.e. they hardly even went off)

I did make a melee shadow cleric / dragon lord once and when epic reincarnated switched back to normal cleric and it worked SO much better.

I solo almost exclusively.
Playing it as a melee staff build.
I'll do it this next TR and get back here with my findings.
Regular Monk or DD don't need regular cleric for anything... They're both great as a pure build.
DA is for the buffs with the DA14/M6 Shadow Clonk Build.

You mind sharing a full breakdown on that as I'm quite interested. SWF or TWF? Feat, destiny / enhancement tree layouts etc. Would it work ok for heroics?
