DDO Bonus Days!

DDO Bonus Days bring you a +10 Treasure Hunter's Boost, now through July 28th!

I have a question about Bonus Days.
Are Bonus Days active as soon as they are announced?
For example, is the current Treasure Hunter's Boost already active since it has been announced?

If anyone knows, please let me know, even if it's someone other than Cordovan.

Sometimes they are, and sometimes they aren't. I haven't seen enough consistency to really answer that one.
Tread with caution if you're planning on using stuff to boost it. I would wait till Friday worse case.

This seemed to be our case as well. When you were talking about Dino Bone crafting in the other thread, we had just wrapped (within a week or two???) of one of these weekends, and we made a killing in IOD as well as Saltmarsh (me and my brother pretty much memorized the runs for these). I think we'll probably add Mists to the mix as a quick run to ransack as well... ?

If time allows, I will send one or two teams to Dread. Three of my characters now have fully armed and operation Death Sta...Dinosaur Bone weapons.

Never ran Ravenloft rares. May try it for giggles.

No clue how this bonus actually works. May hunt for some Jeweled Cloaks and Pale Lavender Ioun Stones, too.

Or crochet. Crochet usually wins.

While this bonus does not change the chance for named loot, it affects some other desired things.
There is a higher chance of getting stuff with masterful/wondrous/legendary craftmanship.
It also increases chances of getting things like Star/Nebula Fragments or Empty Soul Vessels. My max was 19 Star Fragments in single Saltmarsh ransack run, meaning: ransacked all chests in Saltmarsh with 1 toon during a good (+20 or more AFAIR) Treasure Hunter Boost weekend, with a Greater Treasure Hunting Elixir (it takes 2-3 hours to ransack them all). So it's definitely worth it, though usually I get 5-10 Star Fragments during boosted weekend.
It was also the Treasure Hunter's Boost weekends when I found all of my 4 Nebula Fragments (all boosted by greater elixirs though).

I suppose it might also affect the chance of getting rare Filigrees instead of regular ones, but I cannot confirm it, as I did not pay attention to that aspect.

If the magic behind-the-scenes loot roll was visible we could maybe get a feeling for this; after many many chests you could start to notice patterns like some bonuses correlating to the roll number, and other bonuses not having a correlation with that number. But without ever displaying the number, adding "+10" to it is meaningless (not useless but meaningless. it literally has no meaning for us players.)
Honestly given they sell items that boost this random dice roll, they should give us better information about how it works.

That's about as informative as saying "it boosts your treasure hunting by +10".

What does it *do*? Does it increase the chances of getting a named item? Does it increase the chances of getting a mythic bonus on named item? does it increase the chance of a mythic bonus being higher on a named item? does it increase the chances of getting a reaper bonus on a named item? does is increase the chance of a reaper bonus being rare on a named item? does it increase the amount of random items a chest drops? does it increase chances of augment slots on a random item? does it increase the chances of getting two augment slots on a random item? does it increase the chances of the augment slots on a random item being of higher quality (green>blue>colorless)? does it increase chances of getting a higher level item? does it increase the chances of getting a rare affix on a random item (like sabotaging)? does it increase the chances of getting an extra affix on a random item (an insightful), does it increase the chances of getting augments? does it increase the chances of getting a higher level augment? does it increase the chances of getting a filigree? does it increase the chances of a filigree being rare? what is the scale of this 'roll', is it +10 on a 0~10000 or +10 on a 0~20? what happens when the roll result+10 is higher than could be achieved without? what does rolling a 25 on a scale of 0 to 20 even mean; does it get clamped down to 20? is there loot only available on such a '20' and not on a '19', and consequently does adding+10 increase the chance on that happening by 1000%?

If the magic behind-the-scenes loot roll was visible we could maybe get a feeling for this; after many many chests you could start to notice patterns like some bonuses correlating to the roll number, and other bonuses not having a correlation with that number. The old AD&D rule books had the random loot tables in the back...

TMK - the %'s that can be affected for chests:

  • Do I get a named item: based on difficulty plus elixir of discovery bonus.
  • Does the named item have reaper or mythic bonuses: no means of buffing this according to devs - must be on reaper in order to get a +r bonus. Some players believe they have enough data and that the devs are wrong and bonuses like this week's do increase +m/+r chance.
  • I didn't get a named item - so random item?
    • Better random item (higher stats, possible 3rd property, etc): bumped by this week's bonus, loot boost potions, and dragonmark/Chaosmancer chest blessing
    • Is there a boost for higher level random item? The methods to bump loot level are now giving better RNG loot - so no. Though running L35+ seasonal challenges at max has provided cap level items that have higher than normal cap level RNG stats.
    • Random item with a 4th property - there's a store potion to increase that chance too.
    • Not sure if any of the boosts affect RNG chance to have augment slots - would be nice if one of them did.
What it boils down to is other than HC and new players - most vets technically shouldn't care about +RNG loot bonuses - BUT it's nicer when a lot more people want to run highR - so we'll just go with loot bonuses also affecting +R/+M chance and y'all can join my R10's in the item hunt!

This boost adds ten to your behind-the-scenes loot roll, essentially.
Could we finally get some more information on what that sentence means, cause we've been hearing it for a decade now and we still don't understand it.

- Does it merely increase the chance to find maximum effects on randomgen loot?
- Does it also increase your chance to get mythic/reaper bonuses?
- Does it also increase your chance to get rare filigrees?
- Does it also increase your chance to get rare items (Tomes etc)?

Please and thank you.

They already do this in describing the daily rolls. Feels like it could be similar for loot in general
Sort of. While it does tell you what your roll was, and what category that roll falls into (with a general summary of the types of things in that category) as far as I am aware there is no disclosure for the breakdown within each category. 100 Gold can give you a +8 Tome and 91-100 can give you a tome, but what sizes and what chance for each size; how often will it give you a Flawless Siberys Dragonshard instead? We don't know the secret roll for what you end up getting within the category.

Telling us the initial roll is a small step.

"+10" means nothing if you dont explain what you get 10 more of. Thats why everyone's always confused about this bonus every time its activated, and trying to ascribe a meaning to it like +10 levels or +10% chance for named items

Devs really need to clarify this system since its a meaningful bonus, but it does zero good to try and use it as a promotion if no one understands what they're getting

I think I pulled one Nebula and several Star fragments (plus a 3-5 empty soul vessels?). I swear we did better on filigree (more in general, not sure if rare popped up more), we seemed to pull more augments as well. We were boosting with Greater Treasure Hunter Elixers as well. I would add that Feywild is another great area to range in. No filigree, but quite a few named item drops, and the occasional augment. We collected quite a bit of "fluff", but that is just gravy to feed to sentient stuff.

Anecdotal info:
Looted 40 chests that drop named items on R1–got two with reaper boosts.
Usually I do not get any at such a rate and difficulty.

Again, anecdotal, so make of it what you will.

We had a ton of named stuff drop in Skeletons last night and some other raids.

Last time this bonus was on, guildies got several reaper items. I got 0.

This time, I have already gotten one in the first four quests I did.

I have no clue what this bonus does.
