its fixed, damn I wish I could remember the command to paste this screen shot, this is how I did it i found this on the net another guy was having a issue with a diffrent game.

ince it is under Controlled Folder Access, you can follow these steps:

  1. Press Windows key and type Windows Defender. Press Enter.
  2. Choose Virus & threat protection, then Virus & threat protection settings.
  3. Under Controlled folder access, turn it off.
If that doesn't work either, you could (temporarily) disable Windows Defender real-time protection. It is not recommended to disable real-time protection and you do so at your own risk. Only disable real-time protection for this specific scenario and turn it back on after you finish playing your game.

As for an infection, I wouldn't worry about that too much. While I am not much of a gamer, I have heard of Terraria, which seems to be completely legitimate. If you downloaded/purchased the game officially, you should be fine. If it's cracked software, then don't use it. Cracked software is "usually" infected. To be on the safe side, however, you could download Malwarebytes, Zemana, and/or HitmanPro as secondary scanners with which you can scan the file.

after looging back in I had to set everything back up even my /ui layout save ... however once I did that I log out and back in and everything is good
back to normal

So it was your anti-virus protection blocking it from writing those files. I'm glad you got it working.

Added this as fix #27 on the list for anyone in the future that runs into a similar issue.

Yea I find it curious that all of a sudden that started to happen, I wonder if it was on the entire time and something changed with DDO or vis versa. We may never know haha

There is a 'Tip' on one of the loading screens that says to check your antivirus if all of a sudden DDO cannot connect after an update.

But no one ever reads those anymore because they haven't changed in *coughs* years.

Like j1ng said, try swapping between 32bit and 64bit (step 2 of debug list). Also check step 10, that one can help with a lot of issues for folks too.

64bit has better memory capabilities. Go run lag hill in Ravenloft, it was one of the most noticeable quest differences in-game performance-wise when 64bit option was added a couple years ago.

If you are experiencing latency DC or significant latency issues:
The following has made a dramatic improvement-especially if you use a mesh system between your device and router.
1) I use google mesh and comcast router.
2) The IP address for google mesh is different than the Comcast Router.
3) After using ipconfig, and pinging the routers, it seems they were competing with each other.
4) I bridged and unbridged the Comcast router.
5) I reset all of the devices.
6) Once this was done, the IP address for the Comcast router is now the same for google mesh.
It appears that they were both (google mesh and comcast) competing to be "the router". I am not sure why this only affects DDO and not my day to day internet or streaming but I have logged into DDO for about 5 minutes and no latency DC thus far. I hope this helps a lot of people as it's a little technical if you are not comfortable with bash commands or CMD prompt actions.

I can't get ddo to work on my new laptop (separate from gaming laptop); it seems like the game gets stuck when it tries to play the opening cutscene ("I served in the last war...") and can never boot into the character select.

So far, tried:
1) To reinstall the directx9.0 files (both the webpack and the alternate download)
2) re-installs using steam client, standalone windows client, DDO-Wrapper
3) changing the client from 32 bit to 64 bit
4) setting the graphics driver.
5) flush DNS cache

Has anyone ran into this issue lately? Are there any steps that I might have missed?

Try going into your documents folder and edit UserPreferences.ini (using notepad or whatever). Look for the line FirstRun=true and change it to false.
[Launcher]
FirstRun=false
irrc that'll skip the openeing cutscene from playing, see if things run okay after that. (You might also try step 20) if you have a Msvcr100.dll error, try installing Visual C++ files from https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=26999 )

If the game is closing out after launching, try reinstalling Visual C++ https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/c...st-microsoft-visual-c-redistributable-version

Try (re)installing the Visual C++ drivers from Microsoft. See if that helps.

:: edit ::
Try grabbing the latest distributable of Visual C++ and install from it after removing any existing installation on your system first. Get the version appropriate to your system (x86 or x64 version depending if 32bit or 64bit OS+CPU)

Had this issue myself this week, just randomly popped up. Added as step 28 in the suggestion list.

Thanks for your help! I checked UserPreferences.ini; but that variable is already marked as false (I guess it switched after my subsequent attempts to launch the game). Every-time I attempt to start the game, the window becomes unresponsive before it can even boot into the character select:

Guess I will have to file a ticket; I will see if I can dig into the logs to find anything. It's just frustrating spending days on this, and running into roadblocks. If you have any further suggestions, please let me know.
