DDO, Parental Control, Kid suitability

Well, there are several references in alcohol consumption. But at least in my culture up to a point that is acceptable. Even when we where kids we would roleplay dwarfs as heavy drinkers 🤣 for example

Malicia might be pushing the boundaries a bit. They've probably seen much worse on TV nowadays, though.

Dear all,

I would like to know what options DDO has for young kids to play, and from what age the game is considered suitable for a kid to play unsupervised.

Thank you
None...as the issue isn't the game, but other immature / aggressive players you're likely to encounter. Most players will be fine having a child (with parent) in a group, so long as it's known in advance. That being said, as a parent you should play with your child exclusively to control the groups they encounter. Possibly having a regular group you trust to explore and learn with.

Just be aware, that the quickest way to have a negative situation with a child, is to enable voice chat. I've lost track of the number of times I've encountered a child PUG'n groups alone that's doing "ok" at first, till they say something in chat. Usually its something that's inappropriate, or they start screaming at other players. (Please remember, kids don't have filters when they get excited)

Side note: Asking SSG to make all DDO play kids safe would further constrain a game that's been hobbled due to "social" adjustments to existing content. Not something players would be very accepting of under any circumstances. Because of two major concerns...

1) At what point does it end?

2) Are people just exploiting the situation for their own gains or simply to troll everyone?

In my experience, DDO takes great pains to ensure the game is PG-13. (rated 'T' for Teen).
Years ago, they moved one questionable NPC from 3BC to inside the Delirium quest.
The evil / scary quests are tame compared to a commercial haunted house.
I would monitor the voice chat for age-appropriate language. I have reported several over the years. DDO seems to respond as I don't encounter those people ever again.
And that was a bad move on SSG's part to remove content that had existed for years. Just for the fear that it could create a cancle culture backlash. Seriously, not enough people play the game for it to matter in the world, much less end up on the news because it had a passing resemblance to someone.
