DDO vs. A New MOARPG

The Nameless One

What can change the nature of a man ?
MOARPG = Multiplayer Online Action Role Playing Game.

There are whispers and rumors of another D&D game. This time a persistent online multi-player game in the same vein as Diablo 4.

I feel like D&D with it's inherent "party of 5" nature is exactly suited for this type of genre.

Even in DDO when do we ever need (or even see for that matter) 20 or 30+ people on a single instance?

Further this game will add some "life elements" into the genre so it isn't just hack n' slash, hack n' slash, and hack n' slash. Cooking contests? Fishing? Building your own castle? Opening your inn/pub? The roleplaying aspects are boundless.

What are your thoughts on it? And how do you think it compares with DDO?

What are the ramifications for DDO?

If it is anything like the magic legends disaster, it will be lucky to make it out of beta. Also WoTC corporate greed ruins everything so expect an extremely predatory monetization scheme.

Yeah no ... when I look at that concept art and the fact it´s made by the same creators that made "Disney Dreamlight Valley", I think that´ll be a hard pass for me.

You say that now. But think about the possibilities. I want to have my own village to torment like some wish.com Strahd.

A Diablo-like game isn't easy to make. They will need a lot of devs with experience in the genre. Also when the game is done it still needs a lot of development to keep the game alive and interesting. A lot of studio's try it with an existing franchise like Warhammer Chaosbane. I doubt WoTC will give a studio enough time to actually make a good ARPG. Knowing Gameloft it will probably be a mobile game too... Like Dragonheir: Silent Gods.

But people are right it's going to be monetized like crazy that it's going to be Pay2Winx1,000. Sooo.. this is another craptastic game.

It's got nothing to do with Disney. Just because they made a Disney game doesn't have anything to do with that studio making a D&D game. Looking at their list of prior games, I'm not expecting much of anything from it.

I'm not forgetting that. Usually those big companies (WotC too) want their games and also movies to release in a certain timeframe. Often involved in rushing out a game that is not finished yet. Just look at Dungeons & Dragons Dark Alliance...

Soulframe will be the next great game, it is created and run by the same people as warframe. It will be free and if it is like warframe it will have amazing combat and amazing build generating options. If you were loving the tumble that DDO had for a brief time you should see the tumble in warframe which is likely to be carried forward to soulframe. This game is fast intense and exemplifies skill based movement and hand eye coordination, seperating it from a good portion of DDO that is partially based of what you buy in game to improve your build instead of skill.

I hope it's going to be good because I really like the vibe and developer. But the combat looked terrible in the last gameplay video... They still have a lot of work to do.

Ashes of Creation is the "someday" MMO for me; but when that someday will be is likely a long time off.
