Dear SSG, I cause lag. Sorry.

I must apologise, I believe I am one of those Lag Generating players.

In my defense it is mainly due to me attempting to save time. For example, I don't do quests that give me certain favour until I am WAAAAAAAAYYYY over level. I am certain I am not the only one that's over regaining Coin Lord and House K Favour each and every heroic/racial life.
So I leave it until I am lvl 30 when I can literally just ignore all mobs, even in purple alert, to gain Coin Lord, House K or any other low-level quests for the favour that I am interested in. I'm pretty sure I am not the only one that does this or something similar.

Please note - I would really much prefer NOT having to earn these points over and over again every single life, considering that I have already earned them thousands of times before, but here we are. So I tend to do them as fast as possible...until the mob bog me down and I have to clear them. I mean, they can't hurt me and I'm not gaining any experience, so fast with red alert is the go. And the only reason to stop is when you can no longer move or open a door.

Well, I hear you are now blaming crossbow attack speed for the current amount of lag?...
I have some bad news for you then. You'd HATE my build, because while my crossbow is blazing a path of terror with arrows and my runearm is beating like a drum of war down the corridors and halls, my AoE spells are right behind them smashing whatever has the hide to show it's face. There's so much going on, sometimes I can't even see what I'm killing, it's all just a light show.

Now I don't know if you know, but maybe...just maybe a lot of the lag isn't just me, but you. I mean, you pile up the mob in groups and they don't even lose interest even though you've left them halfway across the map when you're just trying to get from A to B.

For example -
In the Mabar key quest, I tend follow the trail, gather up the mob, cue Red Alert and hold my attack button down until the lag clears. Move to the next area. Rinse and repeat.
In Under New Ravagement the goal is to kill the headless guy and take out the urn. Same again, sprint past the mob, attack the headless guy, keep attacking until lag clears. Rinse repeat.

So basically you have put so many mobs between me and the goal that it's enough to create a red alert situation. Do you get the issue here? Is it my game play style or your game dev style? Hmmm.

Before you ask, my system is a AMD Ryzen 9 3900X 12-Core Processor, 32gig RAM and a Nvidia 3060. Which is asleep most of the time with this 20 year old game.

Oh, and you do know making use of newer hardware could be beneficial right? Like DLSS...which even M*necraft can use. DLSS increases frame rate and performance of a game without taxing system resources.

Anyway, nuke the ranged all you like, players like me will probably still cause lag until you give us a reason to stop running through mob for Favor and making mob trains trying to get from A to B.

PS. Also, the lag I get when stepping into Stone Crypt Chronicles when I get within sight of the waterfall....Oh dear. It's not as bad as Yester Hill when it first came out but certainly performance-impacting. A good place to start with that would be the fountain in the birthday event quest as I get the same performance hit from that. Something about flowing water I'm guessing.

Crossbows aren't the root of lag any more that doublestrike was. AI pathing and aggro is the main reason of lag exacerbated by dumb alert mechanics followed by mail lag followed by umd lag (which is most commonly known nowadays as reaper lag) followed by old servers.

Actually the real reason for lag is bad leadership but I don't wanna get banned again <3

But the other causes of lag don't come with the benefit of nerfing yet another playstyle. You will melee with a shield in hand and a pocket healer following you around and you will like it.

DDO is held back by it's single threaded nature. DLSS won't help with that. Not that the engine is actually capable of hosting it. DLSS requires motion vectors and this game engine predates all of that. Best they could do is FSR 1 and that legitimately looks worse than just reducing your resolution.

I've actually been planning to do a vanguard str based bladeforged paladin but it's too much work to make it work. Also, changing filigrees is too costly. Honestly, I kinda think this is just an excuse to nerf repeaters and inquisitors. It's probably their turn and extra clip was great and we all know we can't have nice things!

I guess I'll have to settle for using DSR then.

They will sooner level gate House K and Coin Lords quests to keep you from running them at 30, than fix the lag.

You might be certain other people do that but I’ve literally never done it, nor would I.

So yeah, sounds like it’s you. Ban away.

Single-thread CPU speed is the bottleneck for DDO. The 3900 is going to be slow.

My desktop is 5950X, since I upgraded to a 4k high-refresh display I've found this game to be unplayable. Frame rate is garbage. It was okay on a 1080p 60Hz display.

My girlfriend's 12th Gen Intel I7 runs DDO great, even with a cheap video card. My 13th gen I9 laptop also runs DDO very well.

Single core speed is your friend.

They're going to add a windlass to all crossbows with full cranking animations after each shot. After 100 bolts have been fired, your bowstring is going to snap, and a pair of dwarves are going to appear to restring it for you. You will not be allowed to change weapons until this action has been completed.

I feel bad for those that put the most into this game. Every nerf, workaround, and "fix" implemented (not in the name of gameplay but in the end, all to "fix" lag), just ruined the game more. Gameplay decisions to fix 17 year old infrastructure that has not seen the necessary investment over time makes me feel like I was played for a fool. To all of you that have TR'd 100's of times, I understand your commitment to seeing DDO survive the most as you're the most vested and perhaps still it's biggest supporters.

It would be interesting to see a compilation of all of the things that have been done to supposedly make the game better but were really to try to fix servers because they refused to invest in the game.

For example, the most recent change will be crossbows. What else has been done in 17 years like this? Does W*W or Dia*lo need to make these changes to keep their servers lag free and gaslight their customers that the nerfs are for the betterment of gameplay?

Actually, I can quite comfortably arc up 6 instances of DDO to update my kids account with free stuff (lag permitting) and not have any issues. Unless I'm zerging it through a quest as mentioned or entering into Stone Crypt Chronicle or the birthday event. Never made it to the 4k monitor probabaly because DDO would be tiny on it. I'm running DDO at 2560x1440 with a scale of 125% on three monitors using DSR. Most of the time dual or even triple-box farming if I'm feeling up to dragging the toons around.

DOuble/triple boxing don't matter since it's really only focusing on the window you have active.

That's just further proof that your graphics card isn't struggling, and that it doesn't benefit in the slightest from additional cores.
