Dear SSG, I cause lag. Sorry.

You’re not listening . The point was new players can’t handle champs. I was a new player when there were champs. It wasn’t a problem in any way.
Yeah, I agree, there is a problem with people thinking that champs and reaper are insurmountable to new players. I have seen it on this forum when the topic of new players, or reaper difficulty pops up. There have been suggestions on when loading in to a quest the person with the most reaper points shares their bonuses with people that have less. I think that is a load of garbage. People spend years farming points for their reaper trees, and by just blessing someone who doesn't or wont take the time to acquire the points, it removes the entire point of bothering with it in the first place. Obviously you wont start out doing R10, but you can start doing quests on R1 and before long you will have enough points to step it up some, that's how it works and how it should work, my hard work should benefit me. As soon as this game heads down the communism trail of "it's our points", then I'm out.

I remember Severlin and Cordo chatting on live stream about that. Have to agree I wasn't a fan of the idea.
I was running with the High Lords and a pure noob joined us doing high reapers. We warned him that he was going to get owned a lot, he accepted that and joined us anyway. In one running by the time we were finished, the noob had 10 reaper points under his belt.
Yeah sure he died a lot, but he paid for those points in blood sacrifice and was better off afterwards.

But in my opinion, as I stated previously, us Veterans didn't have to deal champs when we first stated playing. By the time champs came in we knew the game, understood builds and had good gear. Heck we even had really nice buffs in the cargo bay of the established guild ships, which we don't anymore.

So I think just like Reaper, a noob should have a choice whether to deal with champs or not as a selection on the quest dialogue via a tick box.
It's not game-breaking. It's noob friendly.

When reaper first came out there were builds that could run it on R6 easy and fast, mobs were nowhere near as bloated and you could rip thru heroic quests on a first life toon with no reaper points to begin with. The devs have since balanced reaper out to ensure that does not happen nearly as easy as it use to be.

Ok, so basically to cut a long story short.

With posted examples of why sprinkled with a bit of humour...(mostly)

I think the whole Favour and Aggro system needs a rethink
1. to stop wasting players time having to run quests for no other reason than Favour they have already earned it multiple times.
2. to lessen the impact on the server for those just trying to get from A to B when no actual reward.
3. to drop mob aggo depending on the alert level to lessen the impact on the servers, when you are lvl 34 in a lvl 9 quest for favour, literally nobody cares about purple alert.

Favour Completionist maybe? Make it permanent once you've earned it three times?

And then build in a toggle for people who want the points every 100 favor?

Or just run the House K and Coin Lords quests because they literally take no time.

They can select Normal. Or even Hard with Champions that really arent that hard.

I will never understand why established players think this when they themselves find hardcore a challenge.

They create their favourite build (something that new players don't have)
They go get their favourite gear (something new players know nothing of)
They slam areas to farm because they know they aren't going to leave the game anytime soon, something new players are unsure they will play next week.

Yeah, champs are easy...because you're an established player.

All I am proposing is to make it easier for noobs when this game has an issue retaining new players.
Just a tick box that wouldn't even affect established players.

A tick box. On a dialogue box.
Thats it.

But it seems the prevailing attitude from established players is:
"Make it easier on new players? Nah f**k 'em!"

I even made a mock-up of how game-breaking this would be for established players...

Champs were a creation to slow completions and progress, the challenge of them was just how they promoted it. Its no different than running mabar for a month with the mabar champs in the quests without a selector to turn them off, this will slow down the progress of first life new players drastically and is likely to encourage store purchases.

You never understand why new players shouldnt make use of the various difficulty options available to them? You started solo'ing Elite I assume?

I remember when I first started it was a serious challenge to solo Normal and impossible to solo Hard.

BTW, do you think calling new players "noobs" helps retain them?

So you get less XP and favor if you turn off some of the difficulty?

What happens if the new player turns off champions, then brings in 5 experienced players and they steamroll content?

Maybe a new player could just be in groups for Elite runs and solo in Hard or Normal. As a 1st life they only need to run about 20% of the content to get to level 20.

At least they would have the choice.

As far as I remember Champs were brought in because people were complaining that the game was too easy due to power creep.
Then they brought in Reaper for those wishing to shoose to make the game harder.
Which was great. I mean they had the past lives and gear and knowledge to tackle it on Reaper. All power to them.

But I'm trying to see things from a noo...new players perspective.
We all know that retaining new players has been a problem for some time. Sticking to the same old same old obviously isn't fixing it.

You know what.
Yup everything's perfectly fine and hunky dory. No need to change a thing!
Well that's certainly a weight off my mind!

I don't get the issue with having a function button to turn Champs off on quest entry window, it's just a little tick box, not everyone is a dedicated player, a good player base is what keeps the game going for those who have invested years into the TR train, it's nice to have new players sticking around to keep that base at a sustainable level!

Players time and effort investments differ from casual once a month to hardcore hours a day, every day! Having the choice to remove Champs gives the freshest players some time to learn the game, the gear and develop a playstyle of their own! I bet most of these people opposing the idea put forward by the OP where trailing off the apron strings of players like myself and the OP just watching scenery go by while the first few lives were handed to them on a silver platter!

Hardcore and now Cormyr are a good reminder of what it used to be like when you started and even then Vet players know which quests to avoid, what quest gives what gear, what that gear does for your build, how to build, what spells suck no matter what power boost you give them and which ones don't, which quests give the most xp and which are a waste of time, what mobs to expect, what boss to expect and you'd all be lyin if you said you didn't trail and experienced player around the world in your first few lives!

Why is it such an issue for you vets anyway? It won't affect you at all just don't untick the box and you got your champs and reapers!

As for projectile lag if mists are anything to go by in Cormyr projectiles are having some serious issues in the lag department, stick men rapidly shoot projectiles at you, if there is a large spawn like death house, yester hill and wizard of wines as soon as they spawn and start shooting you may as well prepare to meet your maker, you can't move, don't do any damage while they are still damaging you death is imminent i do not recommend mists to players carrying skull lanterns at this point in cormyr you are guaranteed to lose it!

The lag is a bad idea, having the option to switch champs off to give newer player a better chance at surviving for the first few lives while they learn the game is a great idea and I am all for it, it affects no one but the player who switches it off, simply put "no Champs" in lfms so party jpoiners you know you have them switched off much like we did when reapers appeared!

Switching champs off will never ever ever ever happen. They are not going to do such a thing that would allow quicker completions and progress, the grind is the profit.

I can fix the lag, but I will only tell you how, after I am elected, and only during lagfrastucture week.
