Displacement

Illusion (Glamer)

Level:Brd 3, Sor/Wiz 3
Components:V, M
Casting Time:1 standard action
Range:Touch
Target:Creature touched
Duration:1 round/level (D)
Saving Throw:Will negates (harmless)
Spell Resistance:Yes (harmless)
The subject of this spell appears to be about 2 feet away from its true location. The creature benefits from a 50% miss chance as if it had total concealment. However, unlike actual total concealment, displacement does not prevent enemies from targeting the creature normally. True seeing reveals its true location.

Material Component

A small strip of leather twisted into a loop.

This should never have been changed. Fix it. Thanks

A bigger problem is perhaps that none of the caster buffs except displacement (now self only) and Haste (at lower levels) are relevant anymore. Nobody likes to be a buff bot so I don't think it's much of a problem, but add it to all the arcane damage spells that never got their dice update, and half the arcane spell list are basically dead spells in 2025. I would like to see spell pass that fixes the dead offensive spells and maybe adds some active defensive spells.

The bigger problem is that reaper difficulty ignores most of its effects. I don't know the exact formula but I recall a developer saying R10 ignores 30% of your concealment so that displacement is neutered down to the same 20% that blur has on normal difficulty. That's what I want to see fixed. Casters rely heavily on not being hit to avoid death and displacement is a huge part of that (or was before reaper nerfed it).

I don't think Danzig moment refers to complaining about the smallest issues in DDO all the time. It's a balance change the devs made - whether you agree with it or not - it's not a bug. I think they did fix some of the metamagic issues around this spell.

Which Dev mentioned that?

To be honest, I think in terms of Casters, they were screwed on Displacement since a long time ago anyway; anyone remember the way the Devs just gave everything and their summons True Seeing to "challenge" players basically meant you definitely had none of note when you needed it. As least now there's some functionality so long as it is not an enemy that does ignore the Concealment bonus protecting you.

A while back they proposed bring out champs that would bypass dodge; which they then stopped/delayed. I suspect at some point they'll roll them out to remove that method for surviving harder difficulties (and put dodge on par with displacement for getting reduced heavily in hard settings).

Maybe they are thinking of: https://forums-old.ddo.com/forums/s...e-and-incorporeal/page3?p=6436201#post6436201 ? You're close enough (surpass even) to dev knowledge for stuff like this.

The problem with all of their changes is that they always destroy the weak to limit the power of the strong. Rather than having -30% to concealment they could have "all concealment above X% is ignored." For people with a lot of concealment it would be the same effect, but for people with very little it would have no effect.

The same with dodge. If they feel 95% dodge is too much, I can tolerate them having monsters that ignore all dodge over a certain percent. But when they do a flat subtraction to everyone's dodge (bringing most people down to 0%) just so that the most powerful players will have a reduction, that is when there is a problem. I swear the developers never spend even 1 minute thinking about how they can nerf the extremely powerful without hurting the already weak players.

In my opinion, massive defense should be way easier to achieve. Given that the game has gone the route of making monsters hit like trucks, it shouldn't be that difficult to build your defense up on any class to the point you can survive most things. I'd like to see first-lift characters have excellent defense so they can join any group that has an LFM up. Maybe they are far weaker in terms of DPS (which is how we tend to rank the good players from the bad), but they don't need to die all the time as well. Especially if they are trying to survive by casting displacement and having it unreasonably weakened just because the most OP players were using it to face roll content.

OP always stating things that have no bearing what so ever. Keep being completely irrelevant.
I resent the term completely irrelevant.

Right now we have invented a new term called danzig moment.

so he is almost completely irrelevant not completely.

also he can join me as being a bad example of what not to do
