Do EU servers not exist?

I want to play the game with a friend who lives in the UK and wanted to play on an EU server for their convenience, but do I understand correctly that EU servers don't exist? What's the best server a British player could join for the least lag? We don't care about population, we will only play in duo.

As a whale that has bought the highest expansion tiers ever since Menace and has had a VIP sub for almost a decade, that is extremely ridiculous news. Where is my money going if not for global access to DDO? Anyway, are any of the servers located on East Coast at least for my friend to connect to?

Just pick a server and crack on. Latency from the UK is around 85ms give or take. Lag is generally fine until around 13:00BST at the weekends. Then it starts getting a little problematic.

To be honest what exacerbates my stress over it is the fact I'm moving to Hungary soon and this is one of my favorite games ever, but you were right, my friend did not notice any real lag.

Well that depends. Which company did you whale for? The EU servers were run by Codemasters, not Turbine. It was a sorta weird set up, and when Codemasters folded Turbine worked to transfer thier toons into the American servers. I don't remember a lotta details about it. As I understand it, all the current servers are probably located in the same place on a server farm, and people play them currently all around the world. I have personally played with people from the three countries in North America, most of the contries in Europe, China and Japana (probably Korea too, but not 100% sure), Australia, New Zealand, Dubai, Saudi Arabia, and South Africa.

Code masters didn't fold. Turbine took the license back when it went F2P. They made a cracking effort to transfer character's across but it didn't work for everyone.

That was more of an issue in the days of copper but with fiber most of the lag will come from the local ISP and the peering agreements they have. Once the data is on the backbone there will be little latency compared to what it took to get to that point.

Yeah.. EU servers were shut down in 2010 I believe. Even before I started playing this game... Sucks as an EU player, but Thelanis has been good to me.

There are koreans, I've seen a korean guild on orien.
I've met japanese or at least staying in japan on HC and orien.
I've heard stories about cut throat playing style of china players, not naming server.
I know some south east asia players and run into them once a neon blue moon.

Sounds nice right? Means asia players are alive and kicking. ? Now you try running raids on GMT + 6 to 10. ?

I figured there were, just none have actively told me so. :)

The thing about Chinese players is depending on their circumstances there are a lot of regions where home internet isn't a common thing still due to costs and infrastructure issues, and they're paying a lot higher rates at intenret cafe's and the like than I do with my unlimited home net. I think that is a motivatoin to be as fast as possible and not spend a lot of time trying to sort out strangers. I think motivation matters, and it's easy to assume malice instead of a legitimate motive.
