Do we get a full 64-bit platinum counter after the switch?

Someone mentioned this in another thread.

Is the old 32-bit limit on platinum going to be changed by the update.

It makes sense that it would, but I haven't seen or heard anything specific or official about this.

Does anyone know for sure?

I wish that SSG would go back to GOLD being the major coin in DDO. This would adjust the economy to make both SILVER and PLATINUM to have more value. As a DM I generally put my campaigns economic value mostly on SILVER so that when you acumulate some GOLD it has more meaning.

When youve got 100's of millions in Plat what does it matter?

It is always funny to me that some people think because they don't do something, no one else does that thing either.

Believe it or not some of us still use/value platinum.

If you are vigilant, useful things do occasionally show up in the AH. So spending a couple of million on a really nice augment or a double augment slot item does happen.

Also, I still craft. Some of us still craft too. I use ctrl-b to loot chests to look through the items at the end of the day looking for items with double augments. The easiest way to get rid of the useless items is a mass sell to the barkeep which every few weeks hits that limit and becomes a pain in the foot.

So yeah, it does matter to some of us.

But rabid is right. I don't know what I was thinking. The variable size in the program has nothing to do with the bit size of the architecture. They could have used a 64-bit variable from the beginning if they had wanted. Kind of strange that they didn't.

This is exactly why SSG should have never left the GOLD standard for the economy and was my main point.
So its ok with billions in Gold instead of millions in Plat. Sticking to Gold would only make the problem worse.

Platinum could become semi-relevant again with the caps raised. We would need a corresponding raise in AH maximums as well, but that would let people start actually dealing in platinum again.

...............which is of course why we won't ever see it. Why use the shard exchange when there's plat?

No, it would not Mr. Contrarian. First of all, you're using the term billions when each character is capped at approximately 4 million platinum. There would need to be a reduction in the volume of coin that drops whether it be copper, silver, gold, or plat. The DDO loot tables that SSG has setup is over the top and needs to be more realistic.

If the economy was based on gold, there wouldn't be as many people running around PLAT capped.

And would run around being gold capped instead. The point is that it is all relative.

Im not against gold as the currency. Im not even agaisnt resetting balances to 0. It wont matter in the end. I simply dont spend much in game currency. I have no need as a barbarian. Axes dont have much up keep.

I stated billions in gold becasue i have hundreds of millions in plat on my toons and banks. So im not sure why you question billions in gold. 200+million in plat = 2+billion in gold.

Thanks for the name calling. I apprecaite that instead of making logical arguements you decide its best to open with name calling. Classy move. /s
