doors and dots!

Ok, i dont know if this has been covered (odds are yes), but stop me if you've heard this....

you get a dot, and the try to open a door...almost there...then bam...hit for 3 damage and have to restart.

Can we just open the door? lol. I have like 4k hit points and it's like I a smurf bite, and all of the sudden, my body convulses and I cant open the door.

Maybe if the dot is doing like 5%-10% per tick of your HPs, then you cant open the door. But come on! lol

I don't think we'll be getting a change to this, as much as wed all like to see it.

It's not all damage type that cause the issue; only the ones that cause a stagger animation along with it knocks you out from opening the door (which is the vast majority of them). So it is actually possible to get DoT's (same damage as ones that do stagger you) that don't stagger you and you can do whatever you want without the DoT impacting on you (so long as you don't die that is).

This is one of the things that the concentration skill could/should be used for imo, and have been wishing it for years.

I fully support any attempt to make it happen. Not being able to open a door, pull a lever, or activate a rune, because of a tiny tiny tiny amount of damage, is super-lame-sauce and heroic heroes should be able to train themselves to ignore minor inconveniences while doing mundane tasks (aka: concentration skill check to not get interrupted opening a door or pulling a lever or activating anything due to a very small DoT effect).

It would be less obnoxious if DOT durations were kept to a reasonable length. 30 seconds, like for howler quills, is way too long for these effects.

DOT's should expire when the caster of said DOT dies. When you're the only rogue in the party, the game can come to a standstill waiting for the DOT to unlock or open something.

This is literally one of the things the Concentration skill covers.

This is a constant recurring conversation between my cousin and I. He gets these long dots....from quils and the like....I get dots, but they are never long ones....I don't know what we are doing character build/equip-wise or what, but my durations are never as long as his.

Anyone have any insight into that? Inquiring minds want to know.

If I'm not mistaken and remember right, there are a few variations on the quills; some a attacks made by enemies with quills and these are usually the least lengthy duration on a player due to the enemy not living very long to stack a lot onto you.

Or it's the other variation which is something that is tagged onto you like a Guard effect, so if you're a Monk and have 300 attacks a second, you're going to trigger that 300 times basically and have a lengthy duration vs the other person that only hit once or only made a few hits.

Quills are also easily removed with close wounds, heal, and regenerate; so someone like a druid who pops regen a bunch might think they're extra short dots.

Maybe, but I'm going to have to go with J1NG's answer fitting my situation better. I have the DOTs, but they're never more than 10 seconds give or take.....my cousin does tend to live and breathe haste boost.....I may have to look into where this kind of dot is occuring most. He does mention it whenever he's in Wheloon and quills specifically, but he mentions it at other times with other dots as well. Thanks for the input, both of you.
