Why is TR cache a problem?

Does that problem extend to Shared Bank? Shared Crafting?

Seems y'all have opened Pandora's Box, like a C grade movie. Despite all your well placed drones.

If Shared Bank is stable, GIVE US MORE SHARED BANK.
One thing that SSG could do is make BTC items not take inventory space and make them so that you can not have duplicates.

We are being forced to change servers, and yes, I’m losing things in this process too. But I’m not stressed about it because I’m sure this change will improve gameplay, and that’s what really matters.

If you lose items along the way, then you know what to do: form more groups, go on more raids, and get them back. It’s as simple as that. In the end, what’s important is enjoying the game and the community, not hoarding forever.

Maybe don't minimize people losing items in a forced transfer? It's not a great look. If you think people are being unreasonable, it's possible to simply not tell people you think they're unreasonable?

What I shared is just an opinion, not an absolute truth. I get that people are genuinely upset about losing items, and if the majority feels this strongly, maybe the change shouldn’t happen — that way everyone’s happy. Though realistically, someone else will end up complaining about lag or other issues, and it’ll be a headache all over again.

The word says it all: cache. By definition, it should be temporary, not a permanent storage dump where hundreds of items pile up after every reincarnation.

To quote a certain swordsman 'that word does not mean what you think it means'
A computer's memory cache is temporary, but it originally, historically and still just means a place to safely store things for future use.

Not great player but having fun when we can
Yes, the TR cache is a problem.
No, the TR cache is not endlessly growing.
No, they should not do big TR changes in the middle of the SERVER TRANSFERS
I agree. This is the biggest concern for me.

I currently have 200 (all 8 tabs) in my backpack and didn't buy all the Patron, so only have 160 character bank slots. However, that adds up to 360 items. I usually have to get rid of everything like scrolls and potions and all BtA gear to TR. I do not know that I would want to play with about 10 slots open in my backpack. Yes, I could be forced to delete stuff that I have accumulated, but I do not want to spend a lot of time doing deleting things I would rather keep and not playing for the next period of time (will 6 weeks be enough?).

I suggest adding 400 CHARACTER BANK space. I guess that could go away on TR,

I do not appreciate the requirement to drop everything out of TR cache.

You're right about the historical meaning a cache is, broadly, a place to store things for future use. But in the context of computing and especially gaming, the expected behavior of a cache is temporary, managed storage, not a long-term hoard.

So sure, the dictionary might agree with you but performance and usability say otherwise.

because I’m sure this change will improve gameplay
We've already got Cormyr. There are as much as zero improvements.
And, while the devs tried to fix Cormyr, they got the whole game broken : monsters' AI stops working and they just stand there doing nothing, NPCs don't follow the player, some doors don't open/don't react to events that should open them. It's been around 5 months already, nothing has been done to address those issues and fix the dungeons ! The developers are perfectly happy with the completely broken game and are busy with migrations and new, even more broken, dungeons for the newest expansion. It just doesn't make any sense to me.

So, let's look at it again. We are going to loose
1) Names 😁 (I personally don't mind, but apparently a lot of players do)
2) Guild names (same as above)
3) Items in the guild chests (if we don't have some space to store them)
4) Monster Manuals
5) Maybe some characters, since we might not have enough character slots on 4 servers to fit all the characters from the 8 old servers.
6) Favor unlocks
And now
7) TR Cache (if we don't have some space to store them)

(And we don't know what else will we lose in the process.)

Don't you think, that this is a little bit too much loss with migrations that no one asked for ?

Well, idea I had had was a character gets say, 10 character bank space per TR (heroic or racial). Wouldn't help with the current, but if BtC stays the norm, could incentivize people clearing out the cache.

Haha, no, it'd just make hoarders worse.

The "future use" in this case is reincarnation. The cache was always meant to be temporary until your next reincarnation. Server transfers are not reincarnation, hence the issue.

I get it - losing things never feels good, especially when the migration wasn’t something we asked for. But honestly? A lot of this could’ve been avoided.

People have had plenty of time to manage their inventories, clean out their TR caches, and not treat the game like a personal warehouse. If you hoard for years, of course it becomes a problem during a move.

It's not the end of the world. Lost items can be recovered - just run raids, group up, and enjoy the process again. That’s what I look forward to the most anyway: playing the game, not clinging to every old item I’ve ever owned.

Sometimes a fresh start isn't a punishment - it's a push to go out and have fun again.

2 days warning = "plenty of time" ?

The game has this little mechanic. Some call it "Reincarnation". Ever heard of it ?
We have to store items for any build we play/want to play.

Lost items can be recovered
I'd rather find a new game to play. There is little difference, either way you start from scratch, without gear. But at least it would be something new.

The server merge has been discussed for quite a long time. This didn’t just come out of nowhere. Anyone paying attention to the forums or the dev posts knew it was coming, and honestly, there has been time to prepare.

The old servers are still open for now (after the change), specifically to give people the chance to sort things out and move when they’re ready. That’s more than fair.

I’m not against anyone here — just sharing my point of view. I personally don’t have this problem because I started clearing out and organizing my characters and TR caches the moment this was first mentioned. I saw it coming, and I acted on it.

I get that it’s frustrating, especially for people who didn’t expect the impact to be this big. But at the end of the day, there was warning, and there is still time. Just my opinion.

Two character slots to empty hundreds of BTC items from TR Caches.

The instructions are relatively new and some of them needed to be changed at the last minute. This is not fair to some peeps and has put an onerous amount of burden on them. What if you followed their directions, prepped everything, and had everything nice, tidy and tight, and then had a rug pulled out from underneath you by having one of your storage sources removed? Better yet, it was a resource that what was unique to a character so not always easy to disburse (BTC items don't spread well).

Hopefully the rest of this will go a little more easy, but I can understand why SSG has pulled some agro from some of their players.

I just hope they don't have to change anything else...

The words of someone who obviously creates the same vanilla toons over and over and over again needing little to no gear changes. You seriously cant be so naive as to think that everyone speed runs through heroics with the same exact gear needs for every life. Some of the people on this forum have done many similar lives and would like to change things, maybe stop and sniff a flower or two through the game, not just treat it as a job and say, "these are my tools, the only ones I will ever need to fix every problem". Even a mechanic will add to his tool collection over the years.
No I do not create vanilla toons. My point was that you don't need good gear to get through heroics/epics even on R1 so hoarding 15 gearsets from lv 3-20 is a waste of space. You can get by from 10-20 just fine with 2 RL sets per style.
