Have to admit, that I have almost gotten used to a 3 or 4 second constant lag when playing. Do not see the really long lags or too much rubber banding for a while. Not sure if that is better or just different.

They might have taken Sir Winston Churchill at his word: "Success consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm."

The enthusiasm must be very strong.

But hey, they have time left over now, and can use it to fix my Monster Manual, right?

(yes, the enthusiasm is strong with this one...)
I think I'm fairly strong with the Enthusiasm, but SSG somehow sap a lot if it away, like the Overlord Palpatine?

A build issue overnight caused problems with Update 68.1 and we are unable to deploy the update today. The rest of the extended maintenance is continuing.
Could we please make it so the word 'coral' is not being banned as well.

And btw, the link on the OP to the release notes don't work! Because there are no Release Notes? I guess somebody pulled them?

EDIT wait a minute, there isn't any Update 68.1 because of a problem detected earlier, so why the incredibly long downtime? SSG 0 Ridiculous Level 10!
The extended maintenance window was largely not related to today's game update, which typically only takes a few hours (we're often up by around 11am Eastern on patch days.) This is maintenance and related work at the data center and other environments above and beyond the typical work seen during a restart.

Most of us understood sir. I do believe the explanation was given already for the extended downtime, before the update of the release not being part of the maintenance.

So will this "above and beyond" work alleviate the lag?

Now you know the actual reason. Damn, I have to wait for 9am to play. Means one day gone I guess.

Perhaps they are replacing old server parts and doing updates to the firmware to maybe fix some of the lag? Just guessing here, but anything that helps the game is great by me. Take as much time as is needed to fix it.

Always hear this and it never makes sense.

It's like asking your mechanic to walk you through what they're going to do before they do it.

'I'm going to loosen these four bolts and remove this cover; not now because you want me to explain it to you, so I'll start on that in another hour or two after I explain it to someone who has NEVER worked on a car like this before.'

or,

'This isn't working and I'm going to do what I can to fix it'
As someone who knows how to repair cars, it isn't some big, unexplainable mystery when it comes to those repairs anyway. Without explaining every bolt that must be loosened, they can tell you if they are rotating the tires, changing the oil, replacing the air filter, and changing out your radiator fluid, for example. If they don't do that, and you just pay for "Maintenance," you are probably getting ripped off.

Now it could be that server maintenance is something so technical that it can't be explained in simple terms, but I doubt it.

If the extended maintenance window is not largely related to today's game update, then why is it weekly at the exact time lately?
I'm not trying to give a hard time because I know many many times it's only been a few hours, Many time I would be able to log in at lunch time without issue.. but lately it seems every single week this is the new norm. Should this be the new expectation every week?

I have noticed that they do regular maintenance every week, but at the same time I have read on different wikis that there are bug feats, such as Master of the dead. What I would like to know is if there is still a bug or if they already fixed it and I missed it in the last fifteen years that I was away.

I think the confusion/concern comes from people like me who know nothing (or little) about how these systems work.
I understand the necessity of weekly downtimes, I understand the necessity of the (occasional) extended downtime.
Most of the other games I play have regular (short) downtimes and an occasional extended one.

But (iirc, I'm too lazy to take ten seconds to check) 3 of the last 4 downtimes have been essentially 8-12 hours.
I can't think of another game I've played that has to be down for a full work day once a week, every week.

Not trying to blame the staff, I imagine it's got to suck to be you guys and have to do this.

But from a customer perspective, it seems... weird that there needs to be so much extended downtime, summertime maintenance or not.

To put it another way - I'm sick and tired of my Wednesdays being shafted.
This is kind of a good point. Is there some reason that this always has to be on a Wednesday? Couldn't you randomize it a bit from Tuesday to Thursday? Would help those that have static groups on Wednesdays or who work a swing shift where it is part of their weekend.

I believe Thursday's used to be the scheduled downtime day. Not sure why the change to wednesdays, but I personally prefer it to be predictable.

Nah, people are asking for the mechanic to tell them what's wrong with their vehicle and what they plan to do to fix it, instead what we get is "vehicle broke, we fix it" and that's it, then the bill with no idea what was broke and what was done to repair it.

Well SSG is a company with less than 25 persons, passionates, skillfuls and dedicated, that provide us, gamers, a lot of fun since years. Servers and related infrastructure need maintenance and even in far bigger companies, unexpected or extended downtime may occur and are most of the time mandatory. Let's just be patient. :)
