Dragonborn DDM

So I've got three Dragonborn racial live coming up, and I've decided to do them as a DDM (electric, so the blue dragon wings and lightning aura both fit the theme).

Yes, it's mostly a meme build because all the lightning breath...

My question is: stay pure monk or add some DL (for more roars mainly, recall I said meme).

We will be running to cap and farming some reaper points, so it can't be completely ineffective.

So, pure? DL split? Something else?

Your thoughts and explanations are welcome.

(character currently has Heroic completionist (1 each) and will have Half Orc racial past lives complete.)

If you have 3 Lives to chew tough whats stopping you experimenting with pure vs. multi?

I seek advice because for some reason my mind breaks when I try to come up with something more complicated than a straight class.

I know multi can be (and often is) better than a straight class but figuring out the nuances is a huge nope for me.

Is your main requirement just getting the DDM PL? I'm running a 20->30 eTR life on my main right now. I ran regular monk 1->30. I did pure with handwraps in both cases. My feats ended up being something like: TWFx3, Precision, SwToPlow, IC:Blud, Maximize, Quicken. You;re heavily feat constrained.

My main thought is that acid seems to be the way to go since there's no real way to break elemental resistance and Devils are usually immune to electricity. The main use of the breath attack is the CC paralyze from Draconic. I find that I was doing way more DPS as pure monk, but DDM is decidedly OK with the ki attacks being basically a AoE whirlwind replacement witht he CC side effect being super useful. Defense are worse, imbue dmg is way better with around 750 Spell power in R1.

I found Spell Focus to be waste of feats relative literally anything else. You are not going to get your DCs high enough to break through evasion anyway.

Looking for a thematic (Dragon born Dragon Disciple) way to plow thru the Dragonborn lives.

I usually default to acid as well, but blue dragon wings . . .

Good luck.

When I ran my Dragon Disciple lives, it was decent in heroics but faded quickly as you progressed in epics.

When you hit epics, the lack of immunity bypass, the lack of decent MCL/CL scaling, and the gearing/itemization problem (it's hard/impossible to gear well for both melee AND caster stats at the same time) all catch up and add up to being a big pile of meh.

To get a working build decide if you want to fight with a weapon (prolly SWF line) or HWs (TWF + Swords to Plowshares).

If you ignore spell focus, then you can ignore the Evocation (lightning, fire, cold) vs Conjuration (acid) DC feats as a binary choice and just use whatever works. Take mostly the Regular HW monk feat loadout, but you may wish to ignore WWA and stop after Dodge. Then swap in Maximize and Quicken for Mobility and WWA. Stunning fist is still useful, but everything dies pretty fast in Heroics and your dragon breath attacks (you have 3: EPic Srike, ki ability and spell) are your main CC, so it's less relevant on this build. Put everything in WIS, CON , DEX and whatever is left in INT for some extra skill points since you need to take Spellcraft. The nice thing about ignoring the SF line is you can swap elements just by swapping SP items until you get into draconic incarnation and you need to really specialize in one.

I stayed pure DDM, but mostly because I came from a monk life eTR. The cores are heavily backend loaded so splash two or six levels or you're in for 20. I put 41 DDM , 30 something Shintao, 8 Ninja for haste boost. I tried to work in the Feydark tree initially but didn't really need it. I think I was initially thinking force shortswords the whole way through but eventually realized it was less fun than wraps.

In epics, I found it to be Fun but not Optimal. I usually run around and breathe on packs with Epic strike + ki attack and then beat doen whatever is left with fists. You can solo R1 just fine at cap. It might work more as a pure spell caster of SLAs but playign it a s a monk with exotic stunning attacks worked fine. The defenses are catagorically worse mostly then pure moslty because you have to take a lot of Draconic Incarnation. I ran the Primal Avatar mantle for a while and found I couldn't run out of spell points even if I tried.

Great, Thanks for the advice.

I've got a stormsinger bard near cap right now who goes either fatesinger or primal, and he's the same way, hard as blzes to get under 50% spellpoints in primal.

Well you've said you want to run it as an electric caster, so you want to stay pure. You'll need the 10 mcl from the capstone on your burst to have anything resembling an epic rotation
