Dual box accounts from same PC. Is this ok to discuss?

Wanted to run another account to help gather mats etc. Cant log in to both at same time. Only one will connect, the other makes 20 attempts to connect to server then gets a time out error. " Allow multiple accounts" check box is checked. No idea how to fix this.

Can you log into both of them seperately without issue? Does it only error out when you're running both? Does it error out if you log in to both in the reverse order?

I can do things others can't...
1. Try to log into a different server on that account having issues, then back into the server you're trying to log in now and see if that fixes it.
2. If it doesn't, you might need to wait for the next server restart to purge the issue.
3. I'm guessing the 20 attempts to connect didn't happen in less than 20 seconds? If it very quickly goes from attempt 1 to 20, there's a separate issue at play that's network related (node somewhere between your ISP and DDO that has fallen over) and there is nothing that can be done about this one except to wait for the nodes to rebuild and remap around the issue.

Actually for 3, there is one other option, you'll need a different online connection or use of a VPN. So a mobile connection or VPN for example would give you different network routing across the net that could bypass the issue - IF it is the issue described (attempts 1 to 20 happen less than 20 seconds, as that means it's not reaching the Game World server in question).

I do this, I dual box, ie. run two accounts at the same time. If it is not working for you listen to those who post advice here and hopefully you can get it to work. It is possible.

Happy DDO'ing

I can log into both seperately no issues. Only errors on 2nd account (once the first is already logged into), It errors out regardless of which account I log first. I tried changing the order with no luck.

Going to try this now. You are correct in that its much longer than 20 secs to make it through the 20 attempts.

Perfectly fine to talk about dual boxing. The main rule is that you are the one controlling each character/account, no using software to play for you (no botting).

There are many things that could cause this. My first though is always to check your RAM. Do you have enough?

I multibox up to 6 accounts on the regular. I find that when DDO takes up more than half my available RAM, things start to slow down and get choppy. When RAM usage gets close to 100%, instances start to crash. (along with multiple instances of ddo, I often also have several internet tabs open, sometimes including youtube, and I also have discord up on my second monitor... it all adds up).

How do you open a 2nd launcher? Steam just gives the option to close the 1st one, and once ive logged on its not letting me get a new launcher on?

AFAIK it is not possible through steam. In order to run multiple instances/accounts at the same time on the same computer, you need to use DDO's own launcher, which has an option to allow multiple instances. Once checked, you can open as many as your computer can handle.

if PC
from steam open the game folder (right click on game to see options)
locate the launcher exe - 'dndlauncher.exe' or something like that
create a short cut to this program
move short cut to desktop
and use that to launch the game

As soon as you see its failing to connect, try opening a second window and log into that same account at the same time. For me the second window has always worked, the first will do it's thing, then will close. This workaround has done it for me each time that happens.
I started to have same issue now and then around the time of lamordia's release, never had it before. Even trying to log into just one account it happens, though not as much past month

I was unable to connect 2 instances on the same pc but downloaded ddo to a laptop and ran both accounts that way. Better than nothing I guess
