Epic Storm the Beaches - Ballista Bug

Duoing Epic Sentinels chain with my buddy tonight and we got to Storm The Beaches. He's a Barbarian and I'm on a Ranger. I employed the tactic of killing the ballista operators at range before we closed in and destroyed the ballistae.

We took out all but one this way, the one on the Northeast corner lost it's health bar and we couldn't target it or take it out and so couln't complete the quest.

I know there's a known issue with charming the ballista operators that renders the ballistae 'friendly' but we certainly didn't do that, we killed them at range.

Anyone seen this before when not using charm? Hoping it's an uncommon bug and it won't happen next week when we try again.

No my buddy's Barb is a first lifer and my Ranger is a 2nd life Heroic TR only no EPLs on either of us.

We did have the Hireling Wizard Boltha Romagen but she just spams Meteor Swarm at everything (including nearby walls?) as a distraction, she doesn't charm actively or passively.
