Escort the Expedition broken?

Coyle and his followers seems to suffer from the same condition as Hirelings/pets (i.e He goes a few steps round first corner and then they all just stop and nothing seems to get them moving again.)
Anyone else seeing this?

I had this happen recently where he remained locked in place halfway down the turning corridor.

I reset it and made sure he did not get near any mobs or hirelings. I think I had an arti dog set on defend that had somehow blocked his AI patterning.

Needless to say, I bashed him in Hold For Reinforcements at every opportunity.

I recently did this quest, and my party eventually figured out that if we clear the way first and then walk backwards while keeping Coyle in our line of sight that he will make his way to the entrance of the library, although he did so in short bursts of movement with long pauses between movements, and it took a minute for him to walk the last 10 feet or so to trigger the cut scene where he finds that the door is locked.

That said, when we went to go deal with those earth elementals, he followed part way and almost got himself killed.

We did the Western Expedition afterwards and had zero problems with Derward. So Coyle was probably just being an ******* like he usually is and influenced the Deneith guards to also be ********.


Btw, when we did Hold for Reinforcements, Coyle was almost instantly KO'd by a reaper. I'm very glad they changed the quest so we don't have to keep his butt alive.

I've had trouble here recently as well, but for me it was about 4-6 weeks ago. I was soloing and had to re-start 3 times. My theory was that he's getting stuck on dead mephit corpses as he got stuck right where one was decaying on all 3 failed runs. 4th and 5th runs I let the bodies decay fully before bringing him through and all was fine.

He also got stuck right at the end on my 4th attempt. He wouldn't step into the final room to spawn the fire reaver, which was way more irritating.

I also took every opportunity to bash his head in during "Hold for Reinforcements".

I ran the chain again a few days ago and had no issues. Like Gigantus experienced, on my most recent run, Coyle was KO'd by a reaper within about 2 seconds of zoning in. I didn't feel bad for him, but was sad I couldn't be the one to give him a concussion.

Thx for the replies. He bugged out on me again but I found if I told him "Stand your ground " then told him to follow he would start moving again albeit very slowly. Had to do this several times but managed to get quest done. done

Thrask Arena(VON1) suffers from this same fate. Its a crapshoot doing that quest nowadays. The mobs just bug out and won't leave the cages.

Since the Myth Drannor update I have noticed this type of behavior from Arlos in the waterworks and other similar quest NPCs, mobs at times do not move and will just sit, take damage and do nothing, or sometimes "wake up" after a number of attacks. Something seems to be seriously affecting the background mob AI and pathing periodically since MD. Not all the time but quite regularly.
