EU Moonsea Server – Will it have a strong playerbase?

Hi everyone,

With the EU Moonsea server opening soon, I’m trying to get a better idea of how many players are actually planning to move or start fresh there.

I’ve seen a lot of threads about server choices, but I wanted to create one focused specifically on Moonsea, to get a rough sense of how big and active its community might be, both at launch and in the long run.

If you're planning to play on Moonsea (or even just considering it), feel free to drop a comment below.
Let us know:
  • Are you moving an existing character?
  • Starting fresh?
  • Coming back to DDO because of Moonsea?
  • Hoping for an active EU time zone community?
  • Are you part of a guild that’s fully relocating to Moonsea?
This isn’t a guild recruitment or anything official. The goal of this thread is simply to gather information that might help all of us make a more informed choice, based on how many players and groups are actually considering Moonsea.

As for me, I haven’t made a final decision yet. Many of my friends have already chosen to go to a US server, and I’m not sure what my guild will decide.
That said, from Italy, the idea of playing on servers located in Las Vegas with ~200ms latency doesn’t really excite me. The possibility of being on a server located in Europe, with maybe sub-40ms latency, is definitely appealing.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

My current thinking is moving to Moonsea since I am in the UK. My entire guild (such as it is) and everything I have will move. That said though I am waiting to hear from friends from other guilds to see where they are going though I expect they will probably go to Thrane but I do not know for certain.

I do not want to lose touch with the friends I have but being on an EU server is very appealing since in order to raid currently I have to be up until well gone midnight or later to run anything. Having more active groups to run with is an exciting possibility.

Europe (except Russia and Ukraine) has a bit less than 600 milllion people, the same as North America roughly. Not everyone plays DDO, but even if the fraction is three times as high in NA as in Europe then the servers would have equal average populations.

Not sure how Asian subscribers will choose so left those out (sorry).

Being European, I’ll be moving all my chars to Moonsea. I am part of a primarily European guild that will move there too - but even if I wasn’t I would still move there.

East coast players might even have neglible difference in their ping values between Amsterdam and Las Vegas - in which case they might go either way depending on other factors such as guild, friends, off hours play schedules etc. Say if a guild has primarily East Coast and European population, only a move to Moonsea would make sense for them (other factors being equal).

I'll move all stuff there, raid times are like 2AM onwards on my current server.

I have the same doubts as you jhoz. I'd hate to lose a bunch of friends, who will go on us servers, but the temptation to play with a nice playerbase, in an european server, at 40 ms is definitely there

I think some players on ECUSA will split their characters between Cormyr/Thrane/Oerik and Moonsea. I'm planning to move several developed characters to Moonsea initially and split the rest among the Las Vegas servers. This will give me options in the event of occasional server or location problems.

I'm shifting back to a many characters non-grind paradigm though so I may be unusual in terms of preference.

Unfortunately, I know this choice will inevitably cause some splits within guilds. The point of this post is to test the potential community on Moonsea, to see if a solid EU-only community is possible, to help people like me who are still pretty undecided.

well, since i will be forcibly evicted from wayfinder by the end of august... guess ill move to moonsea.

i moved my toons in lotro over to one of the eu servers, and the latency is at ~20ms, down from my usual ~130ms. theres also a lot less of the usual hitching when jumping around, making movement and jumps feel better, and the enemies also dont always run "into" me or past me due to server/client communication lag whatever when engaging with them, so this all bodes well for ddo.

i did a few further tests including the jumping puzzle in eaworth, which usually resulted in frustration due to the constant issues the engine has while jumping on high latency, and the difference is night and day. not a single failed jump, everything felt as smooth as butter. this bodes well for the mario quests in ddo!

then i also did my favourite lag-test. mounted combat. went haywire, started jumping around on the horse, felt "good". then i went and started jumping over different obstacles while at full speed. the game usually then starts rubberbanding, because the server things i ran into a fence or rock or whatever the obstacle is, and pulls me waaaaay back into that obstacle that i passed a few seconds ago. did not happen a single time now during my test.

if this translates to ddo, then yeah, moonsea it is.

Thanks for your valuable insight. These are important points we should keep in mind.

Nice informations, thank you. I tried latency on ddo. I have 110 ms on Orien and 170 ms on Cormyr, so not a small difference between east and west cost servers.

The Finnish Loki
Brotherhood of Blades is moving from Cannith to Moonsea and picking up some assorted Euro/other folks too.

Our discord is also open for folks who are undecided or looking for a Eurofriendly guild on Moonsea.

And I know that several of the remaining Euro-focused guilds are looking to move to Moonsea from Cannith.

I am considering Moonsea. I am an european player, however all my guildies are in the US. We don't really play much to begin with, but on the odd chance we play together again, it'd be nice to be on the same server. It's a difficult choice for me.
As I said before, it's a difficult choice for everyone. I understand you.
