EU Moonsea Server – Will it have a strong playerbase?

At least some of my tons will heading to the Moonsea, most likely my toons from my main server of Thelanis on both my VIP Subs at least. I waiting to hear from guild leader for confirmation, but as the guild was started originally on the old EU servers and we are all from the UK and main land europe now I can't see any reason for us not to move to Moonsea.

I will also play, less often, on the American servers though as I have far to many characters to move to one server. I've got some serious wittling to do to trim them down to 4 to be honest but there you go.

All the polls I've seen up about which server you going to have all been more than half of those voting saying they coming to Moonsea so fingers crossed we should should have a reasonable population.

So true. It’s just that I’ve seen way too many posts with polls already. That’s why I wanted to try and gather most of the opinions about the EU server into this one post.

From the polls it seems like there will be a pretty decent population on moonsea.
I will go there.

We will have to make an effort to create a new welcoming community for those who feel lost after losing their US guildies and friends.

I'm in Germany but most of my regular group is based on the US. That being said, as of this posting I've not spoken with my group about their intentions. Just assuming they'll chose an US East Coast server as a middle-ground. Even then it's still a toss up, as it's just as likely that folks are as undecided as I am.

Expecting to see a lot of guilds and regular players going their separate ways after the transfer.

There is no east coast US server after all this. The new ones are in Las Vegas. The old ones switched off.

Hi everyone,

With the EU Moonsea server opening soon, I’m trying to get a better idea of how many players are actually planning to move or start fresh there.

I’ve seen a lot of threads about server choices, but I wanted to create one focused specifically on Moonsea, to get a rough sense of how big and active its community might be, both at launch and in the long run.

If you're planning to play on Moonsea (or even just considering it), feel free to drop a comment below.
Let us know:
  • Are you moving an existing character?
  • Starting fresh?
  • Coming back to DDO because of Moonsea?
  • Hoping for an active EU time zone community?
  • Are you part of a guild that’s fully relocating to Moonsea?
This isn’t a guild recruitment or anything official. The goal of this thread is simply to gather information that might help all of us make a more informed choice, based on how many players and groups are actually considering Moonsea.

As for me, I haven’t made a final decision yet. Many of my friends have already chosen to go to a US server, and I’m not sure what my guild will decide.
That said, from Italy, the idea of playing on servers located in Las Vegas with ~200ms latency doesn’t really excite me. The possibility of being on a server located in Europe, with maybe sub-40ms latency, is definitely appealing.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!
I had a solo level 175 guild in sarlona and I am probably moving everything there just for ping purposes. I usually group with other sarlona guilds through discord and through sign language with all the uber powered asian guilds carrying my soulstone through r10s.

I'm kinda hoping they are also moving to the european server but I have a bad feeling west coast USA will be better for them?

I keep seeing the same post everywhere though: "I'm in EU but everyone I play with is from US". I think in the end we're all gonna go to the same server ping be damned?

Well that's just stupid as all (explative)!

Edit: I do recall that the EU regulations vs the purchase of online gaming currency is pretty strict. Which could have a lot to do with their being a lack of an East Coast server.

What is the issue with a Vegas DC?

Talking about distance, I think Amsterdam is generally better for serving the entire Asian continent.

Me, and part of my guild, want to try Moonsea. Our hesitation about going there has always been about leaving people we know, but Moonsea has a clear advantage, besides the ping. It's that people's time zones will be more in sync with ours.

I love playing with the Americans. But they often start raiding too late for me, when I'm already very sleepy and tired. It's especially bad when they start at 3 a.m. here. I don't mind finishing raiding at that time. But starting? I'm too old to sleep so little anymore. The days of not sleeping and being as fit as a fiddle the next day are behind me, unfortunately. Age catches up with us all.

And I suppose if it doesn't work out, we can pack up again and go to a US server. But I think the server will have a very healthy population, and with less harmful hours for our health than the ones we've had up until now.

it's so - so.
Japaneses & Koreans should lean towards Las Vegas. (Not enough data to judge , for the moment.)
The latency from SE Asia should be very uneven, because they're lot of islands there.
Australia has even higher latency.
The halfways between the data-centers are the middles of China and Groenland.

more lag. i did make a new char on the latest new 64bit server for lotro, and the latency over there went up some 30ms (from 130 to 160 roughly). now 30ms is not that huge of a bump, but its noticeable for me, and since lag is my number one gripe in ddo... welp. that is from germany.

Spanish player here. I told my guildies to check ping and compare once servers are open, but for EU people Moonsea seems like a no brainer.

I don't pug a lot, but one of the guild founders is worried for the australian diaspora. A difficult choice for some of us, after all...

Together with the other former Ordo Draconis members, we're leaning towards the EU server, even though it means the painful separation from Helter Skelter, who kindly welcomed us into their guild over a year ago. The main issue is that we're all based in Italy, and playing on a server located in Las Vegas is really inconvenient for all of us.
