EU Moonsea Server – Will it have a strong playerbase?

I want to move to Amsterdam because it will be better ping and playtime and that is ultimately more important to me. YMMV.

I guess we could both be happy if they moved everything to Amsterdam? 😁

Comfy Cozy from Cannith will move to Moonsea to help out a UK player in Soulhaven on Khyber. We've all been together since Cannith days, and it only seemed right to make sure he has a ship and guild and doesn't have to completely start fresh. I will also be moving some of my alts on other servers to Moonsea. We don't know where we'll be moving Soulhaven yet.

We aren't losing people to Thrane or Cromyr though because people that want to play together will simply move to the same US server. The only time we are losing people is when people that want to play together are going to choose not to play together simply because of server location. This hasn't been a thing in DDO until now. Up to this point, the only decision of where to move was who you wanted to play with. This is first time good friends will part ways because they are being given a different factor to consider that wasn't ever a factor before. This is why people are sad about it. Prior to this, people just moved together. I don't need to worry about losing US friends because we are all, almost certainly, going to move to the same place. The other two US servers really just exist for people that specifically don't want to be where everyone else is.

Ok, so by "we" you mean "you". The Cannith players moving to Moonsea are "losing" those going to the US servers just as much. Its all about perspective and its not specifically those going to Moonsea that are "lost", its a two-way street.

Oh dear ^^
Living in Amsterdam is hell.
It looks like a peaceful & smoggy (you may replace with right consonant) typical city with the canals, nice and all .
but daily life is another matter. There, the mentality is very withdrawn.

Me and my IRL bro and dad will be transferring all our main characters to Moonsea. I'll have to leave the guild me and my IRL brother are in, which has been very welcoming and friendly since moving to Orien... so somewhat bittersweet but really excited to quest in my own timezone and meet new people. One of the reasons I haven't done tons of raiding recently is because raid trains and push raids are usually at like 2am for me, which is long past my bed time!

Sounds like paradise compared to London, where a trip on the Northern line will turn your snot black, and on a summers day is just a fetid sauna.

Agreed.

Had (and still do but to a much lower degree now) some reservations about Moonsea but it's nice to see people are willing to give it a go and I'm feeling pretty good about it now.

It won't be pleasant to part ways with some players I've messed around with for years, some of them close to 2 decades but it's not the first time I've lost and gained guildies and people to play with. Besides, I'd rather cheer the memories I've had on Argonessen than cry and cuss for rubberbanding all over the place in Thrane. It has to be done.

We'll remember each other hopefully.

Amsterdam is crowded and it smells. Try any other dutch city.

My housemate (who is the guild leader) is taking the guild from Orien to Moonsea and most of my characters will be moving with the guild.

I will also take to opportunity to spread my surplus "junk" kit (great in its day) to the US servers as I play late at night as well as playing with my housemate (I am retired; he still works full time). I anticipate that the US servers are a better place for groups after 11 pm UK time.

See, this is what happens when you stick your ear trumpet up your nose...

In fairness to London, it's a load better now than it used to be, pollution-wise. Summer tube rush hour is still horrid, but that's the same most places (Paris is just as bad, if not worse).

I've played on Ghallanda and joined Tyrs Paladium - must say those are absolutely great bunch of dudes and dudettes and I'm really glad I met them (and other people outside guild)!

But time zone difference means I couldn't join most of guild events and playing at 125ms ping was already on the border of unplayable - even with that delay the puzzle cavern in Newcomers almost put me in asylum once 😱.

Now it's time to part ways, I'll be fully moving to Moonsea and remember people from Ghallanda with warmth inside. It was great journey but nothing is permanent, new adventures await and with them chances to meet new nice people on new server.

P.S. My ping on Cormyr is 190ms, if there was no Moonsea option I'd just quit the game, after all I don't want to go to asylum, no-no-no...

  • Are you moving an existing character? Aye! All of 'em.
  • Starting fresh? Oh no; no more of that! TRs for the rest of my life.
  • Coming back to DDO because of Moonsea? No, never really left for too long since 2010.
  • Hoping for an active EU time zone community? It won't hurt but the 1800 log-in limit would have me concerned if we're too populous.
  • Are you part of a guild that’s fully relocating to Moonsea? Aye, a bunch of real-life friends.
Was on Aureon back in '06 but left after I was paying a sub but for slow content (that we got later then the US). We reformed on Orien in 2010 so it'll like be going back home in a way.

At the moment I am looking to transfer to Moonsea but my guild isn't so I am between the Devil and the deep blue sea. Obviously If I do I will be looking for a lvl150+ guild as I have no intention of leveling another guild up.

I don't think that will be an issue. Currently there are like 1200 players TOTAL over 9 servers at primetime.

Unless the influx of returning and new players is a lot higher than expected, I doubt a single server of the 4 will ever hit 1800 (except maybe for a short time during the initial transfer rush). And there's also VIP for log-in queue priority.
