Every time I ride to chains of flame

I wonder what on earth is wrong with the people who say DDO doesn't need mounts or hate mounts. But then I remember it's the same people who can't move their camera around and don't know about keyboard shortcuts. And then I realise nothing is wrong, they are just saying that to stand out like the unique and special snowflakes they are.

Yup it's that time of the month I remind everyone that mounts is the best thing that happened to DDO the last fifteen years. (Monster Manual is second)

Mounts are fantastic, as is monster manual. But best? Delving bonus/bravery bonus was a phenomenal addition that I'd personally rate higher. Those old days where the best way to level was run the same quest for 250k xp weren't my favorite.

DDO was always in need of mounts, I would think that most other games of this type had mounts from the start. I cant even imagine doing Myth Drannor or the Isle of Dread without a mount.

You can really see the change inf philosophy of DDO over the years when you look at old adventure areas. It didn't really matter that it took ages to walk to quests because XP/Minute wasn't a huge concern, the walk was part of the grand adventure, you were going to try it on Elite and it would be actually difficult but your party was ready, you might even have made the trek without referring to an external map.

There's something very cool about that, but DDO's a game about repetition now so it stinks to have to run to chains of flame and that's probably why I don't do it very often, maybe 10 times in all these years. We need horses to make up for the fact the areas weren't designed for this.

We didn't have advnture areas on day 1, you did have to run through sorrowdusk and tangleroot but they're pretty small

I doubt people don't like mounts for that reason.
But I remember there was an argument that mounts would make wilderness even more obsolete than they were back then. And I do notice a change even in my own behaviour and I love wildernesses.
Paddymaxson is right. The endless repetition of the game is the biggest problem and that your time spend in a wilderness is rarely worth it. Yes, there are exceptions but the majority is for 1-4 times exploring and then you just run through.

Cheers,
Titus

it felt like we were clicking for every attack for longer than 5 years, I still have a repetitive strain injury from it ;)
I joined in 2011, we already had hold click to attack and autoattack feat (it was a feat back then?) I remember because if you 'double clicked' or something like that it would activate autoattack and had to turn it off from the options

Mounts help, but having to spend the first 15 minutes just crossing country to get to the quest truly stinks. Even after years of doing so, there is still opportunity to get lost in the journey. Waiting for players to arrive is annoying as well. Oh wait, no one waits for the party to arrive any longer, they just start running through.

I am not a fan of large complicated wilderness areas. Ravenloft gives a break in that we can TP near the quests but we can also still romp through the woods if desired. All should adopt this model.

As for the monster manual, as a former pokemon player from long ago, I was excited to see it. But then the rewards diminished and the utility is questionable as is the completeness. Seems to be just another fund raiser now without many benefits to the game. Sorry, don't agree that the MM is a good thing.

The rewards diminished? Are you sure we're talking about the monster manual?

Because I kind of think 24k is a lot more than 3k?

Yes, diminished. The first MM books gave us pets, asshards and rems for first time achievements. The latter books gave us xp. This is my perception of the rewards provided by MM, but I may just be jaded.

Personally I prefer repeatable xp over one time awards but that's because I'm on the hamster wheel and don't care about pets? That's personal preference for sure, some people ARE here for the pets, no judgement! I don't care at all about remnants, thank god for sterling's rush helping me empty my bank of stacks of 10k. As for shards, 1+3 shards mean nothing unless on the hardcore server to actually post something on the asah and we no longer getting hardcore so totally uninteresting and uninspiring.

So I think the monster manual actually improved greatly, that's why they are planning to ruin it. But that's for another topic.

I thought some folks would argue teleporters over mounts. No opinion here.

Chains of Flames is a one-and-done quest never repeated anyway (and a big winner for a teleporter or mount) whereas MD, Chill etc you will be riding constantly—mounts=big win.

Mounts made slower toons more enjoyable too.

i never bought asshards and only had the ones from the MM. The rems were useful when I was collecting them to redeem the permanent buffs and I agree that they are now just inventory clutter for now. There is so much available xp in the game from normal questing that the occasional bumps from the MM are not really noticeable. Like I said, these are my perceptions, your mileage may vary.

I really did want the MM to be a useful tool., otherwise I would not have spent points on them.

I disagree because xp bumbs make the hamster wheel go faster. Available XP has to be earned, MM is bonus on top of available XP.

I never bought shards either, made a fortune from selling original ToEE mushrooms and then when we had the random loot update 7-8 years ago all the insightful + stat items and then all the min level 14 +10/+50 wondrous and now the economy doesn't matter any more all shards are good for are reroll rare loot (and you shouldn't, that's bad). Unless all these new unbound augments fix it but I doubt it. I also wouldn't spend 4k-5k shards on ottos, I like to play the game. I do gold rolls when it's double dice xp though, that's my guilty pleasure. For ANY of those things, 1+3 shards are a the equivalent of a finding a penny on the street.

Glad you agree MM remnants are pointless.
