Evil Aligned Expansion

. ...Comes with an not good aligned hub town like Shadowfell but everyone will love it this time cuz it lets us make evil aligned characters. Fallen PDK would be amazing iconic and non iconic race choices : )

Setting ideas: Thay, Anauroch, Zhentil Keep, Skelkor.

I want to say Turbine early on said evil alignment was "never going to happen".

I'm not sure if that has changed with the transition to SSG / Daybreak and everything else.

You'd have to dig back thru some old weekly streams with Cordovan and eventually you'll find one where he talks about it. It has something to do with the age rating systems that DDO has (rated Teen/etc. based off the few different rating boards). Labeling a playable character as evil would effect that age rating and they don't want that. I don't recall all the specifics just that was the gist of things. So not gonna happen.

Is the player base paying the bills around here or. . .... or am I missing something?

Maybe the Evil Expansion is adult age, can't recall the last time I even heard a shorty playing this game. Its a lot of grey beards and grey hairs.

I see evil options in a bunch of games these days, it could be an Age restricted expansion.

Why would the devs waste time and resources on this? An expansion like this would have too limited of appeal to be worth their effort.

To make this work full PvP would need to be enabled so that I can kill my group members to take all the loot at the end of a quest. o_O

Alignment means so very very little in this game - having an evil-aligned expansion would just simply be more content, and not really mean anything. Besides, we can de-facto play "evil" with a lot of the Archetypes and whatnot already.

Asking for an EEEEEEEVIIIIIL alignment in DDO is just an excuse to play a character intentionally as a jerk, imho. There isn't a practical reason for it, whatsoever. If SSG decides to make it official and add evil, it certainly doesn't need a whole expansion to justify it. As I said, they've already added it in all but name only with a lot of their recent character class content. The game doesn't need Evil as a playable alignment, and it would just detract/distract, allowing the already prevalent jackass members of the community to justify their jackassery.

1. Their is interest in this, its an on-going request since launch, check the old forums.
2. They could re-use Wheloon as the starting hub for Evil aligned chars.
3. Fallen PDK is awesome.
4. Evil racial trees and or enhancement trees.

These are all template adjustments and some cosmetics with a bit of balancing and now they have some content to sell and make money.

People have been asking for Evil alignment options for as long as I can remember. And for just as long, the dev response has always been

But I guess some people can't be dissuaded from wanting what they want.

No. They've said it over and over and I agree. Evil is a bad idea. No.

As Memnir basically said:

Evil...so the jackwagons can feel justified about their jackwagonry.

?

It's not about interest, it's about there being ENOUGH interest to justify the time and resources of the devs. I highly doubt that exists.

I could see it being done, taking place before the heroic things, i.e. helping set up the sauhgin on korthos and helping the mind flayer capture the dragon. Or causing all sorts of other problems on the other side of things that led up to the current heroic adventures.
I doubt it would cross over really, and would be a massive under taking. It could be interesting, not really any different from swotr with sith and jedi. I doubt it would be done though.

I think it would be cool if they explained lore-wise why many of the archtypes are dark or macabre . something to do with ravenloft expanding . where we have a chance to explore the core realms of ravenloft beyond barovia . the dark powers find ways to twist our characters towards evil . by luring them in with the promise of more powers
