Hello everyone,
I'm trying to make a dodgy swf build with swash and a bit of lock picking.

Weapon is rapier, i'm trying to invest in crit and doublestrike.
Please tell me opinions and how to do this better.

The +1 to crit multiplier from swashbuckling doesn't stack with the fighter's core, as both are competence bonuses.
The limiting factor on a dodgy build usually is the MDB on the armor, and less so the amount of dodge you can fit into a build. I would go into stalwart defender and add +3 MDB from tier 1.

I've tried a swashbuckler and my personal impression was it sucks. I hope your experience will be a better one.

I'm playing though a Drow Swash Bard with a splash of Sorc and Rog(for locks specifically, evade was nice bonus) went 15 bard/3 sorc and 2 rog, light armor , buckler and rapier. went all charisma mostly. have charisma to dmg bonus, sorc gave some good buffs, used only eldritch knight tree. Ive really liked this build though was really fun and I looked more into it and it seems at least 4 sorc would be better since gives you that char to hit in EK tree. Im thinking of running the build again but perhaps bard w/ 6 sorc seems has some nice benefits and for locks im not sure if should even splash the rog in there or what.

I don't understand why you started max-CON on a non-dwarven bard. Is this for hardcore?
Core2 Swashbuckling
Core3 Strike With No Thought
Unless you're using light picks, Swashbuckling doesn't stack with Strike w/No Thought for any other piercing weapon.

Normally I prefer bard 12 / fighter 6 / rogue 2 for added utility from more bard levels (extra buffs, more skill points, etc.) but I don't see anything broken about this build. Why no Power Surge, though? Seems like you forgot the best reason to go fighter 12.

Yeah i know, i took it for +1% doublestrike mostly

From swash tree and kensei i have +9 MDB. I hoped it would be enough with 18% fixed on dodge and whatever
bonuses from equipment/uncanny dodge/reed in the wind. Whats a standard MDB for dodgy build.

Well not really, i just went heavy on that cause if someone ignores the "dodginess" he would be pretty weak with no defense enahncments/feats. I plan to try it someday in hardcore though. Maybe if I'm fast enough I'll get the name Inigo Montoya or Diego de la Vega first :ROFLMAO:

Honestly I just forgot about Power surge. I'll add it

After a small enhancement redistribution that's the result

I have a couple more questions though.
1. Does Improved destruction worth anything? 1 stack per second feels slow for swf but it seems nice for bosses.
2. Does "slap In the face" benefits from tactical dc's or anything else? I put all tactical dc's feats after lvl 20 for when I use improved trip, but if it does it might worth a feat and enhancement rearrangement.

You can get expect +20% dodge from gear alone without too much effort (+14% enhancement and +6% insight), with the 18% fixed that you mention, you'll be at 38% dodge while the MDB on most light armors at endgame is 20.
Even with a +9 MDB, you're at 29 max dodge allowed, not 38.
Your issue won't be not enough dodge, but not enough MDB.

I don't think so because it's based on your Perform skill so it doesn't benefit from Stunning bonuses etc. Same deal with Coup de Grace.

You're going to have better DPS with light picks than rapiers. Rapiers with Swashbuckling + Exploit Weaknesses have an effective critical threat range of "13.5-20/x3" (SwNT provides no benefit); while light picks will be about "15-20/x5" with Strike with No Thought. By that I mean Exploit Weaknesses will proc often enough to give +15% crit chance to rapiers and +20% crit chance to light picks.

Just realized you don't have a Battle Trance, either due to AP shortage or not owning an Universal tree. That's going to lower your DPS and (epic) tactical DCs too.

Bottom line: your build is okay but not living up to its full potential IMO even if we presume SWF fighter 12 / bard 6 / rogue 2 is "locked" into place.

I don't think T4/5 swash are worth the ap. I'd rather go t5 kensei for the mp, and free up some points for stal def and the dex trance from HW

Also think about shield mastery and skirm instead of ohv, with all those fighter bonus feats. Guardbreaking bucklers are some really nice cc (it interrupts mobs) as well as extra passive dps (you get one hit of helpless damage and sneak attack after every daze)

I still remember years ago when we , well me.. poked you for updated info on the dwarven defender parody..

You had me rolling when you posted.. Back by Popular Demand..literally 1 person...

You had me cracking up with that.. But I always loved that build. I have tweaked it so many different ways with Bard, Bard, Rogue, or taking rogue out and putting cleric in for animal 2 for more hp.. etc.. Cha builds, Dex builds.. SWF no offhand, or with a buckler.. or orb for imbue.. Just so many ways to play those classes together... I do like playing as a Shadar Kai with the build.. The two chains is nice dps.. and if you use gold curse dagger as a swapping item just to turn stuff to gold is also a nice way to CC.

I still havent found the most ideal version I like, but never the less its fun to think back over the years from the Dwarven defender parody to today and the build.

Okay I'm 3 weeks late but tl;dr summary: I think the actual limiting factor will be the maximum Dodge cap.

Theorycrafting as much Dodge & MDB increases as I can find on a light-pick Swashbuckler:

Swashbuckler (38 AP)

  • Confidence, Swashbuckling, Uncanny Dodge, Panache
    1. Blow By Blow: Melee III, Tavern Shanties I, Limber Up III
    2. En Pointe III, Deflect Arrows, Fast Movement, Action Boost: Double Strike Boost III

    5. Thread the Needle, Second Skin III, Exploit Weakness, Coup de Grace: Melee

  • Kensei Focus: Picks and Hammers, Spiritual Bond, Strike With No Thought
    1. Extra Action Boost I, Weapon Group Specialization: Picks and Hammers, Action Boost: Haste Boost III
    2. Weapon Group Specialization: Picks and Hammers, Improved Dodge III, Ascetic Training: Agility III
    3. Weapon Group Specialization: Picks and Hammers, Athletic Mastery III
    4. Opportunity Attack
Horizon Walker (13 AP)
  • Mark Target, Improved Marking, Greater Marking
    1. Eye for Accuracy III, Planar Dodge I
    2. Protection from Evil and Good III, Favored Enemy: Evil Outsider
    3. No Step Missed II
Halfling (11 AP)
  • Halfling Luck
    1. Acrobatic III, Cunning II
    2. Nimble Reaction III, Halfling Guile
    3. Halfling Guile
Stalwart Defender (8 AP)
  • Toughness, Stalwart Defense
    1. Improved Stalwart Defense: Durable Defense III, Stalwart Defensive Mastery III

Looks like the highest max DEX bonus for endgame light armor is 27. To this we can add:
  • +2 Fencing Master (guild)
  • +2 Mobility feat
  • +3 Nimble Reaction (racial)
  • +3 Athletic Mastery (Kensei)
  • +3 Stalwart Defensive Mastery (SD)
  • +10 Swashbuckler (cores & Second Skin)
  • +6 Lithe (Shadowdancer)
  • +6 gear (Daggertooth Belt + Boots of Blessed Travels)

For a theoretical MDB of 62. Obviously I made some compromises and required gear to get there, so a more probable MDB is around 50.

Meanwhile max Dodge bonus is 25% base + 6% Kensei + 3% racial + 2% Fencing Master + 3% Grim Barricade + 4% Scion of Plane of Air + 1% filigree = 44%. Dauntless Marking (Horizon Walker) is another +3 Dodge cap but I'm not sure how I would squeeze it in; drop Stalwart points to put into HW, I guess? Bard 18 / fighter 2 can get +5% Dodge cap from Roll with the Punches but loses Athletic Mastery and other Kensei goodies as well as rogue 2's benefits.

Anyway this is just a long-winded way of saying that if you're trying to make a max-Dodge light-armor wearer like the OP, you need to remember to keep your max DEX bonus and your max Dodge cap in sync, since whichever is lower will be the limiting factor on how high your Dodge can be.
