Is it just me, or do anyone else find the reaper wings ugly and distracting? I wish there was an option in the UI to hide reaper wings... I think it detracts from the player character model....

Just imagine back in the day, when people were all playing pen and paper D&D.... how would people react if every drawing of every class in the player's handbook had their picture displayed with wings?

Fighter with wings?
Cleric with wings?
Mage with wings?

it's just.... Stupid!

this isn't Alice in Wonderland or Final Fantasy, it's *bleeping* Dungeons and Dragons!

I like reaper wings. They are subtle and not too bright. All the other wings are either gaudy or too bright.

Also wings are kind of known for achievement in this game. Back in the day wings were referred to the annotation around your character name above your avatar after a TR. wings to me represent a new life.

It's an okay reward if you drink a few dozen dirty kobolds before putting them on.

Nah, both those actions leads to regret the next day.

Am l to understand that l have no choice but to have the wings on my toon for reaching certain reaper levels?

I always thought it was optional or a cosmetic that you could only purchase from reaper venders after a certain number of points.

Dang, l was going to go the Super Subtle route and never show reaper wings. ( kind of like a 6 second Sleeper ?)

There should definitely be a toggle. Especially these new neon sign wings. You can’t see anything on short characters with a bunch of those wings around.

And yeah reaper wings mostly look stupid. Every so often you see a character where the wings integrate well but mostly it reminds me of those little fairy wings kids wear stapled onto their back at Halloween.

A gnome flying through the sky in a biplane, swinging a lightsaber found in the ruins of Blackmoor, and fighting in a giant robot golem named Earthshaker, which is bigger than a castle!

That’s the true nature hidden in Dungeons & Dragons! lol

Anything strange can be explained away by saying 'because it's Blackmoor'.
If you think of these Draconic Wings as a joke item created by the people of Blackmoor, it makes sense.

By the way, about 10% of the monsters in Final Fantasy 1 are blatant rip-offs of original monsters with copyrights held by TSR.
It’s a serious case of copyright infringement.

I support options to not see other peoples cosmetic wings. I think they are annoying.

I would prefer to be able to also block seeing cosmetic pets etc.

I totaly get that people have problems with these „room filling“ wing arts.. but: i always wear my HC butterfly wings.. why? Because it was a race to get them :D (but if ppl would complain about it in tunnels, small rooms in PUGs, Raids i have absolutely no problem to switch it off..) it is still a group game. Well, it should be…(i play mostly solo.. as many others do it nowadays)

Just my 2 Euro

Sometimes I like seeing the wings - sometimes I dont, maybe in small rooms. I would prefer if the viewer had the option to turn off seeing them, not just the one wearing the wings.

Almost none of TSR's monsters are remotely unique inventions. Most are based on cultural references to pre-existing fantasy creatures. D&D is so derivative that unless it's a verbatim copy, there's no way it's infringement.

Beholders are the only ones off the top of my head that I can't tie to a pre-D&D reference and I could easily be wrong about that.

I know that already.

Beholders, Sahuagins, Treants, Mind Flayer, and other monsters created by TSR appear just as they are.
I vaguely remember that out of the 129 types of monsters, 13 are directly from TSR.

Bahamut is a giant fish in legends, but in Dungeons & Dragons, it is depicted as a dragon.
The Bahamut in FF1 is also depicted as a dragon.
Including this kind of pattern of plagiarism, the plagiarism rate in FF1 would be even higher.

There’s also a funny story that since they only gave Yoshitaka Amano Monster Manual I, the illustrations for the monsters in Monster Manual II ended up being original designs created by Amano himself.
