Fixer Upper- Praetor's First-Life Paladin Tank

Bumping: would this still be a great option for a first/low life tank?
Leveling it would be unfun due to how low S&B DPS is; the priority of this build is survivability and threat amp, not killing mobs. Leveling as a typical STR-based paladin then Lesser or Epic Reincarnating into CON-based tank would be less painful IMO.

If you still wanted to play it as specced and you have Feydark Illusionist tree, I'd recommend grabbing Magical Training at level 1 or 3 so you can have CHA to hit & damage for 7 APs to make heroic leveling more bearable. Then you can swap MT for something else at level 20 once you can access MT from Epic Destinies.

It is, but you have to be in a group and all it does is stay alive and absorb damage. If you want to do attacking things this is not the build for you.

That changes things, since the most annoying thing about CON-based dwarf IMO is how many APs Throw Your Weight Around costs. Having Unkor's means heroic-leveling as dedicated S&B CON build will be (slightly) less painful.

EDIT: do you have any tomes?
sorry for long delay, yes this old main from many years ago has +5 supreme tome. he also has 1-3 of the following heroic lives (ranger, rogue, fighter, arty, monk, paladin). No racials, no epics, no reapers.
Sword and Board will be terrible without feats tho right? I might as well just level as a normal pally and lesser or epic as you mentioned.

it will just be a bit slower, so if you can group that will speed things up considerably.

Basically you just go vanguard & KotC, so you get attack speed & big hits, it will just be single target. With Unkors you can just go full tank feats & stat selection. Reset the enhancements at cap.

Epics up to cap is so easy with melee & quick cutter.

Shield Mastery boosts doublestrike as well as PRR/MRR. It's up to you whether to go all-in on survivability / tanking or to "divert" a few feats into better melee DPS to make levelling less painful. Unkor's Cleaver is Keen so you can delay / skip Improved Critical feat in heroics. Then you focus your heroic Enhancements on Vanguard and KotC, switching to Sacred Defender when it's time to put on your Raid Tank Pants.

I'm thinking something like this for leveling:
Kundarak CON Sacred Defender
Paladin 20, Epic 2
Lawful Good Dwarf

Feats

22 Destiny: Perfect Shield Mastery

.6 Deity. : Deity Ability: Luck of Olladra
Magical Training is to unlock Feydark Illusionist tree, so for levels 3 thru 9 you use CHA to hit & damage with most of your APs going into KotC: extra Smites, Divine Might, Imbue, Adept Combatant (battleaxes as Favored weapons), etc.

Enhancements (Spent: 36 +0r +0u / Max: 80 +0r +0u AP)

Knight of the Chalice (25 AP)
  • Slayer of Evil, Courage of Heaven, Slayer of Evil II
    1. Holy Combatant, Extra Smites II
    2. Adept Combatant, Divine Might III, Exalted Attack: Exalted Cleave, Action Boost: Power III
    3. Divine Sacrifice: Melee I, Exalted Smite: Melee I
    4. Knight's Training, Censure Demons, Vigor of Life
Feydark Illusionist (7 AP)
  • Find Familiar: Fox
    1. Familiar's Flourish I, Illusory Weaponry
    2. Familiar's Flourish II
Sacred Defender (4 AP)
  • Holy Bastion
    1. Extra Lay On Hands III

Then at level 10, you switch to Unkor's (inherent CON to hit & damage), at which point you don't need Feydark anymore (at least until epics) and can swap out Magical Training for Combat Expertise (or Precision). Now you have 40 APs to spread between KotC, Vanguard, and Sacred Defender as you see fit. I would suggest using Tier-5 KotC once you get to level 12; it's definitely stronger than T5 Vanguard in heroics, especially since we're not building for shield-bashing with dumped STR.

So levels 10 to 19:
Enhancements (Spent: 76 +0r +0u / Max: 80 +0r +0u AP)

Knight of the Chalice (39 AP)
  • Slayer of Evil, Courage of Heaven, Slayer of Evil II, Improved Courage of Heaven, Slayer of Evil III
    1. Holy Combatant, Extra Smites II
    2. Adept Combatant, Divine Might III, Exalted Attack: Exalted Cleave
    3. Divine Sacrifice: Melee I, Lead the Charge III, Exalted Smite: Melee III
    4. Knight's Training, Censure Demons, Vigor of Life
    5. Ascendency, Censure Outsiders, Vigor of Life, Avenging Cleave, Holy Retribution: Holy Retribution
Vanguard (23 AP)
  • To the Fore!, Shield Combat I, Vicious Shield I, Shield Combat II
    1. Shield Specialization I, No Weakness II
    2. Shield Specialization II, Missile Shield III, Melee Power Boost III
    3. Shield Specialization III, Shield Riposte III
    4. Shield Specialization IV
Sacred Defender (14 AP)
  • Holy Bastion, Sacred Defense, Divine Righteousness
    1. Extra Lay On Hands III, Durable Defense III
    2. Resilient Defense II
    3. Hardy Defense III
I delayed the Dragonmark feat because I don't think you need it just for heroic leveling.

Final build at endgame will look something like this:
Kundarak CON Sacred Defender
Paladin 20
Lawful Good Dwarf

Destinies (Spent: 68 (56 +12pdp) / Max: 68 (56 +12pdp) AP)

Unyielding Sentinel (40 AP)
  • Unyielding, Ward Against Darkness, Stand Against the Tide, Last Hope
    1. Epic Strike: Celestial Mandate, Attack and Defend III
    2. Renewal, Mantle of the Sentinel, Commanding Presence III, Knight's Challenge
    3. Hands of the Sentinel, The Rule of Law III, Legendary Shield Mastery III
    4. Endless Vigil I, Hardened III, Divine Bulwark, Throw the Boom
    5. Resurrection, Strength of Vitality III, Undying Vanguard, Deific Resilience, Light the Dark
Divine Crusader (25 AP)
  • Just Cause, Confront any Foe, Weather any Blow
    1. Divine Smite, Consecration III
    2. Shield of Light III, Bulk Up II
    3. Gaze of the Divine, Crusade, How Dare You Strike Me III
    4. Blessed Strikes III, Cower Before Me
Primal Avatar (3 AP)
  • This is Your Nature: Heart
    1. Rejuvenation Cocoon
Primal Avatar is partly for Cocoon and partly for free Magical Training, which reopens Feydark Illusionist so we have CHA to hit & Battle Trance, CON to damage. While survivability and threat are definitely the priorities, I'm not a fan of zero-DPS turtle-tanks so I prefer to be able to do at least a little hitting and not feel like I'm just using Nerf weapons.
