For Want of a Heart Lava

Cranjis

Let's make things happen.
So I'm running Demogorgon for the first time, and I'm on the Goristro quest "For Want of a Heart". Not too far in, there's a room with lava, and a Crude Altar on an island at the center of the lava pool. The lava just looks like regular old DDO lava, the stuff that typically hits you for very minor damage and really isn't a huge threat. But apparently, this is "hotter lava", and it hit me for about 200ish damage per second as I jumped into it to reach the island. So of course, since I had no protections since I wasn't expecting it to be so powerful, I died to lava for the first time ever.
And what makes it better, is that I was carrying one of the four crests required to finish the quest, which sank to the bottom of the lava pool, making me have to reset.
Either change how the lava looks, put an indication that it's in fact "hotter lava", or make it so the crests don't fall out of your inventory and sink to the bottom of this lava pool when you die. Would be much appreciated.

  • In the quest "For Want of a Heart," now if you die in the lava, your soul stone and the crests you are carrying will, in most cases, be teleported to a nearby safe spot.

Well, I didn't. So maybe this should be moved to bug reports...

I mean, the amount of damage in this quest is a little crazy. On heroic r2 at 13 my character was taking about 170 points of damage. Considering if takes a good 3ish ticks to swim across to that one optional, That's basically instant death for a non-melee (and even a few melee).

This really needs to be adjusted to a more managable number. I even had on Prot Energy for 130 fire damage, and died on a pure FvS with 20ish lives.

Well, lava that kills you isn't a new thing to DDO. It just usually has a different look to it. Like that lava in the Cogs, that stuff used to just be instant death until they just removed all damage entirely from it after it killed so many people. But now I know to stay away from lava that looks different. Making lava that looks the same with a different effect is just evil.

I too am running this for the first time....it seems there are shallow "paths" and deep lava.......I'm not seeing any way to differentiate them other than trial and error....which I haven't really devoted myself to as a method yet, but it's already "painfully" annoying. Anyone know something I'm missing for determining where the safe paths are? So far, ranging the enemies and watching where they run to get to me seems like it may be an indicator....but I've had mixed results so far. Anybody have any tips & tricks on this one so I'm not reinventing the wheel over here?

I find this thread disgusting.

The anti lava diving sentiment needs to stop. I applaud the developers for finally adding lava that takes us lava spelunking enthusiasts seriously. So you dropped a crest and it sunk to the bottom? That's not a bug, that's an opportunity for Lava Diving.

It used to be a challenge; let it be a challenge again. :)

No, seriously, very, very deep lava extra hot. It's like trying to find the rarest tooltip. I LOVE it!

I went there with my static group, heroic level. I jumped tru the lava, to get that secret door. the lava dot was crazy compared to heroic. Prolly it does legendary lava damage, but that wasnt the strangest bug there.
Of course on the way back I fell ino the lava and the crest from my inventory sank onto the bottom of the lava pool. As well my soulstone.
What was weird, I wasnt able to get to the surface. The top of the lava from below was acting like a ceeling. Could not break through it and I wasnt able to get to the shore. We had to reset the quest because it was impossible to raise me or get the crest back.

Strange! Investigating.

I was able to repro this, working on a fix for next patch.

Ya it was crazy strong. My group went there at 16 (not that you get a ton more fire protection in heroics) and were taking several hundred damage easy.
