FROM D TO S TIER - MY MONK THROWER (u73.1 pure monk thrower)

I've levelled to 20 as a stick monk (Elf) and I'm now thinking of TR'ing into this. My question is what shuriken to use? Snowstar all the way? Passve ki enhancing gear only works for melee right??

I used Snowstar to 29, worked just fine for me. Probs not optimal, but feels great with +Crit attacks

I've done my fair share of stick monk (I like it) but just want to try something different. I'm aware of the consequences and having levelled a bow dark hunter from 1 you'd think I'd had enough self flagellation for the moment, but no lol. I'm tempted by Arrow of Discord in FS for levelling at the expense of SD for some AoE but that'd be something to play around with.

Arrow is an animation cancel too, so you can attack > Arrow in like the time of 1.2 normal attacks if you mash it. Very snappy, love that ability.

As far as epic strike I used Pluck, it feels pretty great (esp with IPS if you're on a leveling split) whereas Shadowstrike felt very clunky (I had to stand in place generally to make it work, and with IPS on it feelsbad).

snowstar all the way yes
passive ki regen works for ranged, ki on hit does not

One other question before I do a lesser restoration. I have sagas prepped to consume xp. If I LR before using them will I lose them? And vice versa

+[w] is always damage, but even a raid Shuri is d2+3 so that's a feat for +4.5 damage on average. Not bad, but if you're glancing you lose a lot more damage than you gain with CA.

eerie aim is too important because endgame monsters have a hilarious amount of AC and its basically impossible to get enough to hit right now

out of game for a couple years, used to play a lot of thrower builds (knife and shuri). Couple questions:

1. curious if you think there are any other comparable thrower splashes (14 pally, Ranger, etc). Seems like with Monk changes those are all pretty much ruled out. One interesting thing was getting a favored weapon shuri with cards to use the pally Light imbue which seems sort of cool but also extremely edge cased.

2. Horizon Walker used to be impossible to gain charges for the trance, is that still true? It was so bad when I last played I switched out for other trances depending on split. Curious if that's still a thing to worry about

3. You wrote that ki clicky gives you plenty of ki in epics, but that Tabaxi is required for the passive ki, I'm not sure I understand. Is the reality that you end up wanting both the passive and the clicky? Not sure if the tabaxi consideration is specfic to leveling or end game too.

i rarely had issues

in retrospect, this build would be better as an eladrin in epics. the clicky is enough in epics, and the tabaxi was needed for heroics. tabaxi wasnt uneeded in epics

is this for double LegShroud effects (like Ash and Affirmation, etc), as well as extra imbue dice for the pally imbue? Sorry just trying to intuit I haven't looked to see if there's a build write up anywhere yet

yeah tabaxi is great for a bunch of reasons so I could see how this is almost a toss up
