Game thinks hireling is still in party

Was running around doing some low level dungeons. Completed Durk's and hit Finish as usual. Went to run another dungeon and got a message saying I couldn't summon my hireling because he was already in use. Huh, ok that's weird. Went to run a solo dungeon and got a message saying I couldn't run it because I was already in a party. Logged out completely for about 15 minutes and tried again. Still getting the same messages. I even deleted the hireling out of my inventory and the game still thinks I have him out. How do I convince the game that I do not in fact have a hireling in use?

Leave party when outside quest

So basic noob question then. How do I leave party? There is nothing on the UI that indicates I'm in a group. And this game does a really great job of not telling you where the slash commands are.

Right-click on hireling's icon and select leave group. You won't have a dismiss option available because you are in a public area and hirelings are not normally in the group after you leave the instance.

It's an old bug that surfaces from time to time. It's when the game gets confused and thinks that your hireling is the party leader.

Follow Br4d's advice -- in the rare instances where that doesn't work, logging out, logging an alt, log out from that one, then back to the original toon should fix it.

I didn't have the hireling icon so there was nothing to click on. I tried the alt thing though and that worked.
Thank you so much!

Confirmed, a known bug, no workaround except to disband/re-group.

Occasionally you'll also have an invisible hire - happens when you're in a quest in a Wilderness, and "park" your hire in the quest, then leave to the Wilderness. If you don't "call" your hire almost immediately, the game loses track of the location of the hire, but keeps it listed in the party. Sucks.
