Putting together good leveling gear is well worth it for both convenience and power. It makes a noticeable difference in leveling speed and effort if you have good gear.

Highlight from my melee leveling set up:

Level 3:
Ethereal ring for ghost touch.

Level 4:
Bugkickers wihth PRR moon augment.
Agarthas Belt with melee power moon augment.
Breakers Bauble with Doublestrike sun augument.
Glasses of the Nightbrigade with imbue sun augment.

Level 5:
Crown of Butterflies

Level 8:
Ring of Power for 10% melee alacrity.
Green Pine Gauntlets for of AC (can be used from level 7)

Level 11:
Golden Greaves for DR

Level 15:
Sharn set: part of the family.
Cloak of sunlight for lesser displace (can be used from level 13)
Band of Seasons Warding for elemental resistances (can be used from level 13)

Level 20:
Epic saltmarch + epic windlasher + epic ravens eye sets

Level 21:
+10 stat ring from Borderlands.

The rest is filled mostly with cannith crafting and two slavelord crafts.

This used to be my goto setup as well, as of late I'm experimenting with other level ranges, following the latest xpacs.
I also tend to just pick up and use what I find along the way when leveling and what I happen to have in the shared bank.

This sheds some new light on build possibilities.
And also made me reevaluate what I actually need from the profane and artefact bonusses.

L23 CITW weapon rarely, only if planning 3+ ETRs on same build
Which one? I used Celestia at one time, but later replaced it with ESting in one build for a set bonus or with a triple enchanted T3 Alchemical SSword in another. Celestia just cannot compete with them.
Level 5 crown of summer helmet if melee or abisai set if caster
It's godlike at lvl for any martial, not only melee. +5 RP at ML5 is BiS, +6RP available only at ML20.
And why "or"? "And"! 5pc Abishai is very good for almost any build!
Level 20 (kundarak or elders)+salty+abisai sets.
Kundarak? Usual it Windlasher +Raven/Vulkor's Might +Chosen +3pc Abishai for martial, Elders +one Desert set +Abishai for casters.

I'm on life 170ish now, finishing out the last few new Racials so I'm only ever playing a Barb, DL, Inqui, or a Warlock from 1-20 - so my gear sorta reflects that.

- Blindness Immune/True Seeing ML1 Googles w/ Master's Gift. Though with the rework to Blindness last patch, maybe I'll swap to persuasion. Quiver of Alacrity as well for Inqui or MG Arti runs.

- 1-3 is a Saltmarsh 5pc, which doesn't do much. Deathward clicky is nice, some good gear for a nuker, the Accuracy +5 Trinket is cool. Fill around it with KOTB drops and a weapon. I have crafted Ghost Touch/Evil Outsider Bane weapon sets for Reapers, though lately I've stopped running R1 while leveling.

- Level 4 the Night Brigade Gear from Wheelon/Rats is really good w/ Sun/Moon slotted - worth building out a set if you don't have Feywild. Some older loot is okay, like the Spell Resistance cloak for Phiarlan

- Level 5 Feywild 7pc, non-negotiable. Over the lives I've farmed out Mythic/Reaper versions of the good stuff like Butterfly Crown, Dragon belt & boots. Awesome gear selection. Arti's get the Runearm with Trap the Soul for random instakills and Ghostly for incorp bypass & 10%. Great for farming soul gems too. Grab Ferrocrystal weapons - the 2pc scepter set is really nice for early USP and DCs.

- Level 7 some characters I mix with a 5pc IOD and fill in the rest with Feywild to run Profane & Artifact at the same time. Not need for Heroic per se, but really good caster gear and some of the Feathers are good for archers. The named weapons aren't too bad, if you can slot them.

- Level 10 I only swap Inquis to either Crypt Raider 3pc or Vampire Hunter. One gives +5 RP and +1 Imbue Die, the other gives +5% DS, but easy to fill in around. The necklace and trinket from Crypt Raider is pretty corny, lots of curse saves but some MRR. Everyone else except for Dragonlord I skip over 10. The Night Mother and Barovian weapons are decent, lots of humans in Lamordia to rip apart, undead in MD.

- Levels 10-15 I'll start rolling in Lamordia gear, weapons from RL & MD and some rare drops I got over time, and some of the selection in Demogorgon are pretty nice. Jury is out for me for Heroics, another 10 lives or so I'm sure I'll have plenty of augs and mats to burn, I do like the flexibility over set pieces but also requires you to farm your butt off or commit to a play style that is synergistic with what you end up setting that gear as. Some of the Sands 2-pc stuff is okay, but I hated that Module when it came out, and still hate it so I tend to stay away from those.

- Level 11: I have conc opp SP and some GS clickies to use and a Salt II weapon I still like taking out for no reason other than it's funny.

- Level 15/17: Sharn gear is still undefeated, though for Feylock you need to wait to take 17 for the Soul Splitter set, some of the 17 Sharn Docks sets are better. Get a set of nearly finished rings, Wallwatch or Part of the Family. They're mostly 3 pc so you can still slot other gear around it.

- Level 20: Epic Saltmarsh & Carnvial, Epic Antique Axe or KOTB caster sticks, some KOTB drops are ML 21 and decent if you don't craft any Lamordia gear or Cannith to fill in.

- Level 29/30: Legendary Sharn/Saltmarsh kit, raid weapons & minors, dino bone crap

The only time I used Celestia was for a Swash+SWF+THF build waaaaay back. It was kinda fun doing strikethrough with a swash, but THF is kinda pointless as a DPS feature.

Antipode/wraps, Sireth/staff, Balizarde/rapier, Needle/repeater, & Mornh/whammer are the weapons potentially worth the farm. The raid is easy, but farming it for the item you want doesn't make sense if you're only doing a couple lives on that build because there are "nearly as good" alternatives that are MUCH easier to get for short cycles.

At low levels, do you really need Deathward? I generally don't sweat that until around levels 8-10. That being said.. it's still a great clicky!

Death Ward (versus crafted Deathblock) also protects from energy drain that certain champs and mobs may hit you with, never fun getting hit with some neg levels as a barb lol

I always XP gem to 2, because level 1 sucks. At 2 I have a small assortment of random stuff I wear.

At 3 I switch to a Crafted/Saltmarsh set which works for all possible builds.

At 8 I have TOEE/Dread/Feywild sets built for melee and caster. I need to look into how well I can fit in Lamordia stuff, but honestly I think not well, my current gearsets for this level are dialed in tight.

At 15 I have Sharn and Drannor and misc stuff sets for a bunch of different build types, based on the sharn armor sets.

At 20 I keep the sharn armor sets, and swap the rest with epic saltmarsh and abishai.

At 30 I have an assortment of legendary Sharn and other sets for different builds, and these gearsets will take me to 40, so I have the luxury of not caring at all about any loot from newer expansions.

This also lets me keep my mule count down to 3, which is a huge mental relief. I never need to wonder where anything is, what I have, what gear I might use, and I don't have a scroll bar on my character selection window so I can instantly select whatever character I want. That might not seem like much, but it's a huge deal to me.

At 36 I do swap out my gear for two sets of Dread and that heart from Lamordia.
As soon as I get the newest xpac I'll swap out some older raid pieces and fit in gear from that xpac.

Then do an all sagas run of Reaper 10.

The question was about gear for leveling though
