Good Iconic for Sorcerer

I want to run some Iconics but I really hate giving up that 20th level as a sorcerer, or the 19th either.

Short answer, get a +1 heart so you can remove the 1st level class of the iconic and pick sorcerer all the way to 20.
Do not accept training so you can level your character as you want.

Tiefling Scoundrel will get you a +2 CHR but you can make just about any Iconic work.

If you read my posts you have already lost
you do not need a +1 heart, you need bladeforged. yes, you wont have the capstone and won't strip immunity, but you can play an air sorc with sonic spells so almost no immunity problem, and bladeforged can heal with reconstruct, allowing for easy leveling (plus air sorc dashes_

Iconic Bard should have been Drow, Iconic Warlock should have been Tiefling and an Iconic Sorc should either be Dragonborn or if they ever include them Genasi.

I absolutely loathe many of the current Iconics which are anything but the classic definition of that word.

+1. I really want genasi, but i fear it would be with a very bad class combo.

Same. They are anything but iconic. The iconic elven cleric even follows a non-elven god (not to mention that the iconic about the sun elf race is wizard or spellsinger... pnp's arcane prestige class, not ddo's bard tree). Anyway. At least they should remove the first preset class level, which is just a scam to sell +1 hearts; The iconic tree already gives specialization.

Agreed, not a fan of the current iconic race/class combinations.

Iconic Dragonborn/Sorc would be great.

I prefer genasi. I'm tired of the fact that the best race by far is the dragonbord for elemental casters. Furthermore, the genasi, with their link to the elemental planes, would be very thematic. Which is the reason we will never see this combo, of course. The iconic ones have to have a meaningless combination.

The +2 to INT proves your point about Sun Elf being wizard based originally.
+ INT for a cleric, whoever came up with the Morninglord iconic must have been new to D&D.

I get your point!

To be fair, I played some Warlock 18/ Cleric 2 Morninglord doing Iconics life and I liked the +2 for Skills purpose. I know isn't thematic, but any +INT is very welcome to have more points to spend in Skills.

I refuse to accept that. No they do NOT have to have a meaningless corrupted combination that is simply the current devs design philosophy which really should change.
I hope the devs listen to you and pay attention to you. What's more, I wish they give us more acceptable alternatives to the most aberrant iconic ones.

To the OP: I would take the tiefling scoundrel as a base for a sorcerer. It's annoying because the music plays with each spell cast, but mechanically it's the best. There is no iconic sorc currently, so you would have to use a +1 heart if you want the capstone. For a fast life without spend a heart, deep gnome is not bad. No cha bonus, but it is not needed on r1-3, and a extra metamagic feat (also, you can choose a spellcasting feat at character lv 1, you can't do it with no spellcaster iconics)

An iconic is supposed to be... iconic. And the background of the sun elf or the morninglords in pnp (specifically in forgotten kingdoms, since it belongs to se setting), has nothing to do with the ddo iconic. Sun elves are supposed to excel in the arcane arts. The typical one for them is a wizard, with High Magic as the pinnacle of their art for the best. Or a mixture of warrior-wizard with a certain musical flavor (the spellsingers). Hence, officially the race has a bonus to intelligence, they are supposed to stand out as wizards. Clerics... it is not so typical, and if I had to say something typical clerical for the elves, it should be a Seldarine cleric, especially if it is a sun elf, who are so traditionalist.

The typical morninglord cleric should be human, but oh well.

Totally agree with you.

Have the same opinion about Iconics. My comment above was just to clarify that the +INT is usable.

The way Iconic was implemented in DDO isn't satisfactory, but this boat has set sail. Sometime ago, I think in the old forum, someone said that next Iconic races sould be put to vote among players before be implemented, but Devs never give any attention to the Player's Council, imagine for the regular players and forumites.

I just really hate the musical animation on spellcast

That does start to get annoying after a bit. Hearing that all the way to 30 before TR'ing could be painful.
Honestly you can make most any iconic work as a pure sorcerer to check of an iconic life. It may not be the absolute best possible build but should be more that able to get the job done. It's a shame it costs a +1 heart so as not to loose the capstone.

Pick any race you want, roll a superior warlock. Or an alchemist. Or a mm spammer wizzy. Anything else works but sorcerer.

In all seriousness though I think sorc is in a weak place right now.

Sorc is not weak in any way. It is one of the strongest casters. But as nuker loses a lot without the capstone, it is definitely a class not to multiclass (if you want to play on high difficulty).

Although for a fast life on R1 it doesn't matter, anything is ok.

Curiously, I don't think many are going to define the warlock as "superior", and the mm spamming wizzie is functionally dead nowadays...

It sounds like you're just trying to get some iconic pl? In that case, definitely don't waste hearts of wood on a temporary life lol. I'm using iconics to get some PL done on my alt right now too, and am running into the same problem.

I tried a few weird split builds here and there, but for sorc I'd probably go 18/2 with 2 in um....tiefling scoundrel, just because tiefling is charisma and has some helpful stuff in there. And spellsinger's sonic blast/clw sla wouldn't be bad. Might even go 19/1 if I need the extra sorc spell slots. But even at lv 1 bard a clw sla will be very good, kind of like the fvs close wounds.
