If you're farming for golden age weapons, yes, those can drop in the wilderness chests.

I'd wait until Anniversary Party in a couple weeks if you can, as Tolero stated during the most recent Fridays at Four that the loot boost genie will be returning then.

Unless you want something that specifically and only drops in wilderness, the chests inside quests have much higher drop rates; iirc, stated values are 10% wilds/normal, 33% quest/elite, and +1% per reaper skull.

Recently, I've had some doubts about the 33, though. I have a sneaking suspicion that they've tuned it down to ~25. Quest chests are still MUCH better to farm.

The wilderness purples were boosted to 33% though? (Or possibly to 25% as you say.)

It certainly feels like it is a lot less than 33% + 1% per Reaper level.

My best without any gear in an R1 run was 17 dungeons. Im sure someone can check the odds on that, but also I have never got an item in more than 4 dungeons in a row. And in a static group of 4 we have often gone 4 or 5 dungeons without any named items and never had 2 dungeons in a row where everyone got something.

Option 1: find quick quests with multiple chests on the way.
A) Book Burning with optional fire giant chests
B) Seeds of Decay with split group that also does the optional trap chest and the optional beetle chest on the top right wing
C) Other - whichever you like doing the most and might need more loot from. There are many options if you go out of your way to learn the pathing, splitting and optional chests. Book burning and seeds of decay were my preferred options.

Option 2: Farm slayer area. Find a pathing you like, and repeat it until sacked. Bring friends for more pulls. Here is inspiration for slayer area pathing. R means recall.

Many of the rare mobs are near a dungeon entrance so if you have any gold seal hirelings and dimension door you can kill rare, DD to dungeon entrance, enter, summon hireling, leave and the wilderness zone is reset. Just remember to dismiss your hireling before rentering the dungeon. I find this quicker than running routes around a wilderness

how long does the wilderness take to reset? Does summoning the hireling trigger the reset? That would work great by Oghma

you go into a dungeon, summon and dismiss the hire, then recall
summoning the hire resets the wilderness area
this puts the hire on a 5 min cooldown before he can be summoned again
so buy like 10 different hires, and summon a different one
do this til the rare is rancacked, then move on

I recommend porting to the Drow kidnapper portal, then go south to the two rares that spawn near each other until one is ransacked.

Listen to an audiobook while doing it…

If doing that, ddoor back to the portal and hit the rare before the dragon, the dragon and the 2 rares in the graveyard which is to the right when jumping down from the dragon lair.
