Has Anyone Played the Old Myth Drannor PC Games?

Thinking specifically of -

Eye of the Beholder III: Assault on Myth Drannor (1993)
Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor (2001)

I know nothing about the Myth Drannor setting and was thinking of checking out one of these just to get a video game representation of the setting before Myth Drannor expansion launches in DDO.

Just wondering what people here thought of them, if anyone has played them. Or any other games set specifically in Myth Drannor.

If memory serves, the PoR Myth Drannor was not a very polished game, repetitive and buggy. Beholder III was weaker than the previous two. The bar for good MD game content is not set very high.
Yeah, I have them both, but got bored very quickly with both of them. Hopefully this is better!*

The real question is what will you do once they actually fix it: like a dog catching its tail.

The seems like a lost cause for a few reasons:

1) The amount of money and development put into these older games mentioned was abysmal compared to what you'd consider normal let alone A+ or AAA.

2) The older games were each made during different editions of the rule-sets and were based off of a combination of those current rulesets and gaming at the time. And those rule-sets (AD&D 2nd Ed. 1993 vs D&D 3rd Ed. 2001) were not at all compatible with each other.

3) The upcoming expansion will be taking place based off of an even more future version of Myth Drannor. In world more than 100 years will have passed since the 2001 game's setting. In that time the city has been reclaimed and rebuilt and then had another floating city crashing directly on top of it and re-destroyed. This means that while you might see text or a minor easter egg the likelihood of anything of significance being gleaned is slim at best.

All that said - go for it. I think you should stream your gameplay so I can relive the experiences.

Yeah I definitely will stream it if I decide to do it. Will have to see if I can get my computer to run it properly and also get OBS to cooperate. Thinking I'll give the Pool of Radiance one a shot.

I guess my main point is that you shouldn't expect much continuity with what we are going to see in DDO. Take it all as their own games. Unconnected except by some names maybe.

Ja, the old gold box games. Played them all.

Good times!

I liked them back when they released. Played them on Amiga :)

Buggy is an understatement. It would literally delete critical OS files when you tried to uninstall it.

Love your tenacity! :)
