Yes, that's how I remember it also. Was awesomeMulmaster beholder corps was in Curse of the Azure Bonds I think, but its a long time ago since I played it so I could be wrong.

I played the ORIGINAL pool of radiance of 1990somethingThinking specifically of -
Eye of the Beholder III: Assault on Myth Drannor (1993)
Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor (2001)
I know nothing about the Myth Drannor setting and was thinking of checking out one of these just to get a video game representation of the setting before Myth Drannor expansion launches in DDO.
Just wondering what people here thought of them, if anyone has played them. Or any other games set specifically in Myth Drannor.
You kept the dust of disappearance specifically for that room <3Yeah I played them all and that room full of beholders made it into my nightmares! ??
The Gold Box (and EOB) games run fine on a modern system with DOSBox and a bit of tweaking. It is also available on GOG already packaged with DOSBox in the game *.exe if you don't want to go through that (search for Archives (collection 2).Yeah I definitely will stream it if I decide to do it. Will have to see if I can get my computer to run it properly and also get OBS to cooperate. Thinking I'll give the Pool of Radiance one a shot.
I find myself running through them all at least once every 4-5 years. I still have my hand made maps on graph paper!Thirty years later I'm still having nightmares from the drow part of curse of azure bonds. Remember, back then magic resistance meant something. It meant that your casters better be casting haste cause they wouldn't be casting fireballs or stinking clouds or really anything else.
Good times!
- The first game produced in the series was Pool of Radiance, released in 1988. This was followed by Curse of the Azure Bonds (1989), Secret of the Silver Blades (1990), and Pools of Darkness (1991),[2] the games forming one continuous story rooted in the once-glorious city of Phlan, later encompassing the entire Moonsea Reaches[9] and four outer planes: Dalelands, Cormyr, Cormanthyr (where Myth Drannor is located),[10] and Thar.[11] The original four titles were developed in-house at SSI, and the first three titles were the best selling Gold Box games.[12] A series of TSR novels paralleled the stories in the games.[13][14]
I kinda prefered the dragonlance gold box games myself but they all used the same system and the system was awesome (for the time). You hadn't lived back then until you bounced a lightning bolt off a wall!I find myself running through them all at least once every 4-5 years. I still have my hand made maps on graph paper!
Yes, I know I can find them all online nowadays but that kind of kills the nostalgia.
Hehe yeah, I killed more than a few of my party members that way...I kinda prefered the dragonlance gold box games myself but they all used the same system and the system was awesome (for the time). You hadn't lived back then until you bounced a lightning bolt off a wall!
So true!!! However, "Kobold <shaman> still hate you!"I kinda prefered the dragonlance gold box games myself but they all used the same system and the system was awesome (for the time). You hadn't lived back then until you bounced a lightning bolt off a wall!
I loved PoR and Beholder. But back then they were high tech.If memory serves, the PoR Myth Drannor was not a very polished game, repetitive and buggy. Beholder III was weaker than the previous two. The bar for good MD game content is not set very high.
Yeah, once you get comfortable with using emulators or tweaking things, Abandonware sites are great for nostalgia!I don't where or how to post on the web per se, but there's lots of cool SSI abandonware games.
For example I was able to make Panzer General II work on Win 10 without an emulator or ISO. I've got Soldiers at War working on Win 10 as well, but have to mount an .iso file.
I'm currently playing Paradroid without and emulator or .iso as well, but it's not an SSI game.

I was there when Kobold shaman one shot DDO parties on hard. Whenever they 'fork' a smile creeps on my face!So true!!! However, "Kobold <shaman> still hate you!"
My favourite is old rpgs. I haven't started anything on my new PC but on my old PC, Eye of the beholder is a nice afternoon. Champions of Krynn. The old ravenloft PC game (which can be a pita to get going on Dosbox) or diablo 1 the playstation version. Of course, things like another world or Tyrian and Raptor still hold up big time if you want something more casual. So true!
Here's what I'm currently into and I have it working .iso style, https://archive.org/details/rebirth-2.01-2001-version
I've DOSBoxed before and it's OK. IMO some of the older emulators were better, but I shop at the free store
I've already had a few lost weekends this year with no alchohal involved. Just lots of old school fun!
