Heroic Green Steel

Question for all the HGS crafters/users out there. I'm going over the HGS planner I have and am looking at adding some common builds for easy access without selecting everything from each HGS tier. Looking to see what everyone considers common these days. I know HGS isn 't the most popular system for many as they're made their items long ago, but it would be helpful for those still exploring that crafting system. (cross-posted to official & unofficial Discords as well)

The only one of value imo is conc opp for casters. similar to what is above except with wizardry instead of blindness immunity and 4 to int skills instead of cha skills (because exceptional no longer self-stacks). possibly an item for displacement/haste clickies, but it's much easier to get a lesser, permanent form of blur nowadays as well as speed items becoming more accessible. the hp item is only 45 hp which isn't that valuable for the current grind required

I agree with this. I have an oooooooooold necklace that's the same as their helm and I rarely pull it out of the bank. Basically a keep sake at this point.

Occasionally I wish I had a pair of uncleansed to kill my char quickly, but that's about it; eg. MOD bugged the other day and I had a character with a permanent (tiny) dot. It could not finish or teleport to leave the zone. Fortunately, the water also applies a slightly larger dot and so I could afk in the pond for a while and then release.

BUT, yeah, the teleport changes really screwed with the old use for escaping buggy zones. Death+Release is the only answer I know for this now.

I would say in order
  • conc-op goggles (most flexible slot imo) cha skill and blind immune
  • triple positive heal amp (raise clickie) - always handy to raise someone; heal amp holds well even in epic/legendary as swap item.
  • displacement clickie (also except skills and or saves) mostly for concealment
wouldn't bother with hp item or any other weapon; maybe ooze, if only for funz. very very situational use of two uncleanced items, but you can get legendary much easier.

ConcOpp is the only thing worthwhile, Rez Clickie is okay if you insist on not dumping points into UMD. That said, ConcOpp is only decent if you run a Sorc or FVS Nuker.

I do wish that they'd add aug slots to HGS, or had other ways to get the Shards, never manage to fill a Heroic Shroud.

I havent used any of my GS gear in years. Probably smoke clickies and haste clickies are still good but there are better/easier ways and gear with permanent buffs often takes care of it.

I should feed them and clear more space, but nostalgia.

Had a weird bug today in MD after running portal. My character was constantly being sucked backwards. I logged and it came back. Was really annoying but funny at the same time.

Outside of skills and clickies, greensteel is pretty dated. Obviously skills benefit certain builds, like ATR and Visage builds. Outside of that Radiant Forcefiel and Displacement Clickies are the primary use today for heroic greensteel. And those persist through end game. I suppose on a non visage charisma skills are useful as well.

No weapon is useful today. Just farm a golden age heroic weapon or craft a duerger ooze weapon for superior results and easier to farm. I did do a shuriken Pos/Pos/Pops for resurrect clicky back way when, but hardly use it.

Blur hp goggles (with displacement clickie) used to be very common.

Co-op accessories were also a must have a few years ago.

Today only hamp weapons and ooze crossbows are interesting.

It would be nice if there were a way to add augment slots (including sun and moon) to Green Steel items, both heroic and legendary.

Apart from that, there are still some odd things about Green Steel crafting – for example, if you craft elemental absorption effects on a weapon, the different tiers don't stack because they use different values of the same bonus type. In the past they used to be a bonus type that stacked with itself, iirc, but at some point they changed it to the current state, which doesn't make much sense.

I still have displacement clickies, a haste clicky, and a stoneskin clicky, and a raise dead clicky.

I haven't worn heroic GS items as a main piece of gear since the level cap 20 days, but the clickies can still be nice.

I haven't really used greensteel weapons for ages, though other items are still decent for HP.

Having said that, ooze could still be fun for gooping up the place & iirc radiance is still blind on crit without the internal timer so good for rogues & anyone else with lots of sneak attack dice.

I gave up on GS crafting years ago. Now while the crafted items are very good, it's not worth the investment of time to make them. Meanwhile SSG continues to double down on making the games crafting system more convoluted rather than consolidating everything into one streamlined system.

That would be boring though. And it wouldn't make sense. Why would we craft everything from all these different planes and worlds in the same way? The various crafting systems are part of DDO's charm. I enjoy it.

I was thinking about making an ooze crossbow a few years ago, but never pulled the trigger on it. I might give it a try now, though. (Might even try a summoning build)

What would be the best recommendation: repeater or regular with Inquisitive?

It's certainly fine that you enjoy DDO as it currently is. But I still haven't heard what concretely would get worse with a unified system – and that's the part that would actually convince me.
In my opinion, the benefits of a unified crafting system for DDO would outweigh the disadvantages by far – especially because it would open up the chance that every single chest could contain useful loot. Right now 95% of the loot is simply junk, to the point where even I have started to consider not opening chests at all, because the time it takes isn't worth it when the chance of something useful is close to zero.
