Heroic R10 build

Hey guys!

So to preface, I know this is a bit of a ludicrous question, but if you were going to pug R10 heroics, what build would you use?

I have been playing with the idea of trying a r10 heroic life (not enough friends to do a static group, so pugging it is!). Obviously this is obnoxiously time-consuming, but I was wondering what people would recommend! My current top idea is a WF artificer, but I'm open to other fun ideas. I figure melee is... not a great idea (r10 kobold hate you). All racial points available, completionist, +8 tome, etc etc. Assume any reasonable gear is owned (all expansions for example), and willing to farm items as needed -- maximum crafting levels as well (or close enough!).

Additionally, if anyone would find this interesting and wants to tag along, I am based in Orien.
On Thelanis my friends Gezus and Milburnion for the challenge did every heroic quest on r10. The three of us formed the core static group with some other regular friends joining us and/or some pugs. Usually best to have some balance among the core. Milburnion was a cleric/artificer, I melee'd with a monk and Gezus was often either a Sorcerer or Barbarian. I imagine you will find some other regulars on Orien once you get started who will want and enjoy the challenge.

Some quests were 'peazy' but others we barely succeeded with many tries (and many deaths) like Terminal Delerium or the final of TOEE.

Best wishes on it!

They've been nerf'd multiple times. They're harder to play than other classes effectively so many don't touch them these days.

The interface differences make Alchemist unpopular in my opinion. Power level is fine.

Alternative

DC wiz would be my choice, they are the most frontloaded with feats and spell options. Then just pug whoever to kill bosses.

Having done high reaper heroics I would recommend some form of cleric (turn undead is absurdly powerful in R10 heroics) makes a perfect partner with an alchemist if you can find a partner.

Mover and Shaker
I did this twice, once with guildies about 2 years back.
We had a steady group of 4 and would play when at least 3 were online. Sometimes someone even joined the lfm.
I played an alchi and was not very useful until lvl 7 and then ofc at lvl 12 because Alchi is an allrounder. But the first levels are rough, glue bomb was great cc.
The other three were spellsinger bard, arti/fighter melee and gxbow rogue. We didn't use hirelings at all. Except for one we were no uber completionists or had more than 70 rxp.
bard: great from top to bottom. in the early levels stuns and sound damage worked great, later on the buffs helped the whole party. Might be even better today because you could go a little stormsinger but a bit worse because soundblast is only single target now.
gxbow rogue: practically one shotted everything on low levels (had a keen vorpal gxbow) but you need to be able to kite real good.
swf arti/fighter: was great in tacticals and damage but I attribute that highly to the player. He knew what to do.

Most frustrating were some quests in heroic Feywild, especially mortality lessons endfight. We burned through our cakes. It gets way easier when you are able to raise others.
I recommend group play because in R10 heroics it is the most fun I had in years.

Cheers,
Titus

A few years back I grouped with a guy who exclusively did r10s in heroics, he was a arcane archer build with maxed dc paralyzing arrows and basically carried groups using this, was very fun!

Just a follow-up on this post. I ended up TRing into artificer (not expressly for this challenge, just because I wanted to try it out with new updates). I decided it would be fun to at least try pugging/soloing some r10s. So far have complete all harbor 2s (stealthy repo was...fun) and several of the level 3s. About half of the content was just me and my repeater, and the other half was 1-2 people joining my lfms.

It is definitely not easy. In butcher's path we died collectively 30 times over 33 minutes. But this has got to be the closest I've come to the "dungeon crawl" feel of similar games. Scouting around corners, creating strategies to conquer groups, kiting and finding safeish spots, etc etc. R10s at cap are cool and all, but it only feels marginally harder than r1-r4 zerging that you do while leveling. I imagine this is, on a micro level, somewhat what push raiders might feel as they prep for their next push. If that sounds like something that would be fun to you (and frustrating for sure at times) I highly recommend giving it a whirl. If you play on Orien, my lfms are up anytime I'm online (also in WC discord), come join in!

In my guild we ran r10s three man from lvl 4 (from stones)... that was... interesting. Died a lot the first few levels. Got somewhat better later on, but then we got bored/scared/chickened out at around level... 12? maybe. We did r8 from there to 30, which was sooo much faster. Still, would be fun to do the entire thing r10 sometime.

I'd do that if I had enough guildies who were willing ??

Repeater isn’t a great choice imo as you will struggle with DR. TTT was one quest where repeaters really struggled so plan ahead for any skelly/zombie content.

Would be fun for a while at least. If I’m at ur level range and see the LFM I’ll join. But doing iconics now so…. Level 13 to 19 quests… which are a ways away.

But wish the Best of Luck !

Honestly, It doesn’t really matter what class you play, how many Reaper Points you have, or even to a large extent, what gear you’re using. I’ve soloed most of the game on R10 at level with crafted gear and the occasional named item that makes sense. Personally, I prefer Sorcerer, Rogue, Fighter, or Artificer.

"stuff" will help in "rare" cases, but simply put, getting hit by ANYTHING = dead so from that perspective 1 hp is all you need. :)

That said, repeatedly dying, relying on store items, exploiting mobs, or burning through vast amounts of resources just to complete an R10 quest is not an acceptable strategy.

The Reality of R10 Heroics

To successfully complete quests on R10, you need to change the way you approach them and respect the monsters for the threat they actually pose. If you don’t, you’ll die—constantly.

Here are some simple truths about R10:

  • If you run into a room blindly, you will die.
  • If you do not have healing wands, scrolls and buffs and protections especially shield, pro evil, jump and tumble, you will die.
  • If you are in range or line-of-sight of a caster, you will die.
  • If any Reaper touches you, you will die.
  • If you are within range of a Reaper’s DoT or special abilities, you will die.
  • If you stand in lava, you will get baked.
  • If you get hit by a trap, you’re dead.
  • R10 heroics are incredibly difficult but also incredibly fun. Is it worth grinding for extra Reaper XP? Not really. You’re far better off running R7/8 or whatever difficulty you can clear efficiently.
Factors Many Don’t Consider
There are several things that make R10 heroics uniquely challenging, especially at lower levels:

  • Reaper Spawn Mechanics – Every time a monster dies, there’s a chance a Reaper spawns. Older quests tend to have significantly more monsters, which means you’re more likely to spawn waves of vengeance Reapers. Example: Kobold Assault is chaos on R10, while quests like Proof is in the Poison become brutally difficult. vs a level 19 quest like Breaking the ranks spawns level 29 epic reapers scaled to level 21.. Without epic gear, mass mobs and a dragon casting fireball every few seconds for 2k it's probably one of the hardest quests in the game at level 19.
  • Reaper Scaling - Reapers are spawned at the Max level and then scaled to the quest level/difficulty. The inflection points (level 9 and 19) are particularly tough on heroics. ie: there is a huge difference between doom/vengance reapers between von 2 vs von 3 (base level 8 and base level 9)
  • Old-School Quests Don’t Scale Well – About 90% of levels 1-10 are "old-school" and don’t scale properly at R10. Since they rarely get played at this difficulty, I wouldn’t expect SSG to fix them beyond the last "gimpification" update that made heroic R10 easier than it used to be.
  • Bugged Pathing Issues – Certain quest mechanics can make R10 even harder.
  • WW Part 3 (Waterworks): When Reapers spawn in the ledge room, they often fall into the water, instantly healing to full health. Two fear Reapers in that room can quickly end your run.
  • Depths/Sorrowdusk Rock Elementals: If they grip you, you’re pretty much dead on the spot.
  • Low-Level Reapers Are Brutal – At low levels, Reapers don’t scale properly. Their abilities, like Polar Ray, Horrid Wilting, or the Fear DoT, deal more minimum damage than you can possibly have in total hit points. This makes them insanely hard—and often frustrating—to deal with.

The Bottom Line
R10 heroics are a completely different game. You have to think in entirely new ways.

For example, how many times have you turned and run from a kobold? On R10, that’s not only acceptable—it’s often required. If they have line-of-sight on you, you’re a sitting duck.

Playing R10 heroics is vastly more engaging than the usual mindless zerging. It demands skill, planning, and patience. Quests take longer, but the experience you gain—not just RXP, but in actual gameplay skill—is invaluable.

  • You’ll refine your skills and become more successful in R10 raids.
  • You’ll learn monster weaknesses and how to exploit them.
  • You’ll need different weapon types—blunt, piercing, and DR-bypassing combos like Cold Iron + Holy or Flametouched + Holy.
  • You’ll actually have to research monster manuals to learn what elements and spells work best. If your DPS isn’t cutting it, you won’t kill fast enough, and you will die.
