Hirelings

Does anyone else have a problem with hirelings casting displacement? I usually choose a bard hire when soloing with my dragon lord for haste and warchanter chant. When I hit F1 to select myself and have the hireling case displacement they will only cast it on themselves.

I've doubled and tripled checked this. Is this just me or is this a bug or by design?

What is the point of this?

As an additional answer: there was a time where you could cast displacement on others too… miss these times sometimes (not directly for the casting on others but for the time I began playing this game).

It's totally stupid from every angle, but some hirelings spells only can be cast on themselves. Which completely negates the entire purpose of a support caster style hireling. Like I said, it stupid they did that.

You probably know this but, FWIW, blur works and some hirelings have it. Useful for when you don't have the UMD to use scrolls or wands.

Yep. With various permanent hirelings you can now get Death Ward, Freedom of Movement, True Seeing and Blur all for a goodly duration.

Yup it's silly.

That said, the golden seal sharn hireling construct does make good use of displacement. Along with the repair it can cast on itself. It actually has a little staying power.
It has its uses which is more than you can say for most hirelings.
