hirelings

I have been playing for a long time. granted I have taken time off on occasion. but I just noticed that hirelings are disappearing. Sometimes like this weekend I am running low level sagas to get the guild exp. I had a high level hireling out but thought I am running a low level saga I will use one of the old ones in my dimensional bag. I grab it out and run the quest line with my low level then I look on my bar and the high level which still had 41 minutes on her was used up even though I didn't use her. and the low level got used up as well but that's ok I did use her. What is going on. is this a bug that ddo knows about and is doing nothing about. I also heard if you don't have a dimensional bag you can put your old level hirelings in the bank they look like they are there but you take them out and go to use them and they will time out in the middle of a quest when You can't call another one. what is going on? FIX THIS!

This is not a bug, if you start hireling it will run out of timer while in dungeon/wild area, regardless if you summon it again or not. Started hirelings will pause in public instances also you can save it in bank if you want to use it for later.

From what I recall, gold seal timers count down even when in the bank, you just don't see it counting down until you try to remove them (as the bank doesn't update the timer display while in there); so once you remove them, you'll see their current timer state (or they'll go POOF if the timer is at zero).

I'm sure I've put rogue hires in the bank to make most use of them, admittedly, this was a couple of expansions ago, but I was able to make use of them fully for different quests.

I've had the one that can cast Dimension Door in the bank for at least a few months. Still works when I take him out.

They must've fixed things. One of the seasons of HC my rogue hires kept ticking down and expiring on me. Good to know it's pausing them again.

It's possible that was only a HC server thing. I don't know for sure but I know I have a hireling that has been in my bank for quite a while, He's a lv 27 but I have been working on Heroic PL's so I haven't needed him. I also know that summoned arrows from AA or HW trees stay just fine in the bank, even after a TR.

Sometimes when you put a hireling whose timer has started in the bank, then take them out later, they will disappear immediately when they enter your backpack. Other times they will wait until you enter a quest or wilderness to suddenly disappear. And sometimes they will remain and you can use them. I haven't yet figured out why they behave differently.

I've seen hirelings disappear in the middle of quests. I like the new mushroom henchman though.

I have seen hirelings disappear in the middle of a quest (usually Gold Seal ones) when I go from a quest to a wilderness area to another quest (without entering a common area). What actually appears to be happening is the hireling is stuck somewhere (usually the first quest) and didn't actually make it into the second quest. This sometimes happens as well when I finish out to a common area and the hireling remains in the quest, but when that happens I can drop party before entering the second quest.

If NPC's are set to stay, this may be why they are not shifting or may be lost mid-adventure (again only if they are set to stay).

This is related to the terrain update from October 2025:

"Hirelings left guarding an area by themselves. In the case of Hirelings, the Hireling will disappear from the party but can be re-summoned if you still have their contract available."

Hirelings sometimes get left behind when they are free to move.

And leaving them pinned to a spot can also be the issue as sited above.
