How about a little clarification, SSG?

I don't know where the 2025 code came from originally, I am a bit out of the loop at the moment. It worked for a while but not anymore. So there is a problem. It was somewhat intentional but maybe not wai?
Why not inform the player base about this? Something like this kind of code goes viral in the community. And when it is turned off it sparks a lot of questions.
So take 10 minutes of your time and post a clear and concise information about the situation.

Was it a leak?
Was it ready for use?
Did people who used it, do something wrong?
What is the plan now?

This is not rocket science.
Something happens.
It concerns the game and players.
The company posts information.
Introduction, explanation, conclusion.

Why do we/the players have to dig for scraps of information every time something like this happens?

Yes.

But there are so many things I want clarity on, that I'll never get...

What is the plan and timeline for stuck transfers?
When can we expect more smoothly running servers?
What does treasure hunter bonus affect, and what doesn't it affect?
And, of course, what is the plan for MM and will it ever be fixed or just sacrificed (like TWF nerf etc) in the vain hope of performance improvement?

I would agree that SSG needs to do more about communications in some situations. Being out of the loop is part of the problem. Often, I am told, things are announced in different places.

BUT, I don't agree with you on this one. If the 2025 coupon had been announced and then recalled I would agree with you. But it was never announced. Just typing in random codes seeing if something works seems to me to be an attempt at exploiting the system.

They didn't announce it. It wasn't supposed to be open. It just happened to work so they closed it down. No further explanation necessary in my opinion.

Wait for an official release and you will get all of the explanation you need about the code.

Guess how that coupon code leaked

SSG was lazy to create a unique code for DDO. A player with big brain who plays LOTRO too just put the same code into DDO and voila it worked. Prolly SSG forgot to disable the code and it wasnt read yet to announce. The rest is history.

Official DDO discord covered this. Error of making the code they are working on easier to use by mirroring LOTRO code and someone was testing codes and it worked when it wasn't supposed to be live. Will be back and bigger or better....supposedly 😊

Here is a post with a reported quote from Cordovan on this issue that was transcribed from a Discord post.

New Free Code is Active

Cordovan's answer to this on Discord was:
"You aren't going to be getting anything from me sorry. We'll have this info when we are ready."

Things not meant to go live end up in the live game all the time. Lamordia's existence leaked when the wilderness showed up in adventure compendium, as did the quests to be included in the Tavern Tales pack. The pet in the Black Rose coffer leaked because coding turned all the pets that use that model rig to turn into the one from the coffer. I'm sure there are numerous others but those are just the more recent ones I can think of off the top of my head. It's not an uncommon occurrence.

They should stop using ctrl-c/ctrl-v I guess

No, it was a code they used for LOTRO and someone tried it and got lucky it worked.

But yeah, for real, there's a large thing coming soon, yes it is built to address a few things folks have just mentioned, and folks who may have unwrapped the box a little early need not worry. Definitely keep an eye out for the official announcement.

That was a few days ago and I expected the Official Announcement to come with Fridays at Four on DDOstream and am kind of surprised it didn't. I wouldn't expect it before Tuesday or even Thursday at this point. The longer it takes SSG to actually release it, the better chance we have of getting more "locked" features and other gifts from it, IMHO. DDOwiki is already mostly set to go based on the oppsie release screenshots when it goes live.

It was said SSG working on the new code since the one they've got disabled was not ready to use.

Even if the coupon was not officially communicated at first, its viral spread effectively turned it into a public promotion.
Without official information, speculation and half-truths fill the information gap quickly. This is one of the major problems of this game and company. A short statement allows SSG to present the facts, avoid misunderstandings, and curb rumours. This way, they retain control over the narrative instead of leaving it to users.

I agree the consequences are on the players that used that code. But I do think, too that an explanation why the coupon was disabled and
if it comes back or when and how might have a learning effect and it would be appreciated by the rest of the players. This can prevent further frustration while that seems to be on a high at the moment anyway.

Cheers,
Titus

There was official information though. Cordovan said the code was not ready so they disabled it. All the people saying there was no official communication seem to have blinkered vision.

That covers both your paragraphs. Comms and the reason behind it (it wasn't ready yet).

You mean the comment in discord chat?
Discord is a great platform and it does have features to support these kind of information. Posting it in chat is the worst place though because it is fast and fleeting.
So I actually add a paragraph: Post relevant information in a place it doesn't get lost.

Thank you.

Cheers,
Titus

Well he replied in Discord as that is where he was asked, I suppose.

Personally, I am not sure they need to say why they cancelled a code that they had not announced. Its starting down the road to where the burglar sues the company he is trying to rob when he falls through the roof. :)

I do believe SSG comms could be better, but where should global announcments go I wonder? The launcher? A link on the launcher? The forums?
Maybe a "Status of Hot Topics" list with the last update. E.g. Transfers on Hold, Lag etc.

Ideally everywhere, but at the very least on the main site, forums, and Discord.
