How do you NOT get tripped?!!

I am pretty sturdy, melee selfsustain moderate dps. Its a fun char with low strength. I have 8 in balance.

WHen I go up against certain mobs, it is just a certain death... namely things like jariliths. I have just 29 strength. I can rip through r1 and progress pretty well on r4 solo (depends on quest), but these jariliths and other trip mobs just cause me to die.

How can I deal with the trips? I am hesitant to play any other melee again solo without some way to offset this massive risk of death.

Ah the cats so your talking the GH Pack nah thats a pretty old one max dex n balance that will get you back up

I keep a balance aug on my boots just for that handy

Knockdown immunity should work on those but not everything have u tried shield blocking or jumping out of ranged b4 the takedown

When you approach a tripping mob as a melee, you have few options:
- have insanely high str or dex to avoid being tripped in the first place - this rarely works as you need like STR 50 in harbor r1's to avoid being tripped
- honestly invest in balance - so you get up quickly after being tripped
- actively block sometimes prevents - in most cases cats/dogs uses trip attack as their initial attack, once you block it (they miss due to increased AC of your blocking stance) - it's safe to strike them back

When you are tripped - you can still block to at least avoid some of the damage.

I want one of these!!! Can you buy them of sufficient value with remnants, points, or other crafting function? I got my +16 shatter from sharn and that is pretty nice, but doubt that is one you would get from a "vendor".

Thanks!

...and while tripped, don't forget to hold the block key while laying on the ground.
it's a lifesaver, often unknown or undervalued.

Use your own crowd control like Stunning Blow, Trip, or Cower Before Me so the mob can't Trip you. Or bring a friend who has Hold Monster, Web, Otto's Disco Ball, or Evard's Black Tentacles.

I don't believe this makes any difference at all. Any number of times I have seen multiple characters with dramatically different balance skills get tripped and then stand up simultaneously.

Some trips (wing buffet, giant stomp) are balance checks, and you will avoid being knocked down by balance skill.

Some trips are opposed stat checks, and you have no hope of avoiding being knocked down other than blocking, immunity, or not getting hit due to how mob stat growth is set (look at a pet to see).

Some trips are knockdowns, and bypass trip immunity, and are also generally stat checks, and you have no hope of avoiding other than by blocking.

Some trips are enlightening, and some are frightening. Balance is key, so don't get tripped up too hard when tripping.

Slot a Ruby of Snowpeaks in your weapon and pray that it will freeze mobs earlier than they could trip you.

Also dont stand in the same position (think of the Kobolds at Waterworks).
Hit mobs and move away. This way the mobs AI will be engaged to calculate the new movements instead of attacking you. There is an old video about it on youtube. (It demonstrates how you can kill a pack of wolfs without beeing hit if you attack them and right after jump above the wolfs the other side and hit them again till they do the turn towards you. Repeat)
If you stay in position you'll die!!!

There was a guy insisting that zephyr was the best filigree because it gave you knockdown immunity. I am assuming he had the same issues as you.

Knockdown in DDO is an absolute horror because it doesn't let you do anything other than block. In 5e for example you get knocked down other than enemies having advantage to hit you if in melee you can mostly do everything you'd want to do. Heck, I drop prone against ranged enemies all the time to give them disadvantage to hit me.
