I suggest to just play the game and not farm any items if there is no fun for you.
It is just psychological trap.
Today is this ring, the other day is another item and you may end up in such worker loop instead of playing the game.
Just imagine that such ring does not exist, because if not that quest and idea of this specific loot, then you would not pursue it.

Solid Fog:
- check jewelry merchants under bridge in market place, I sometimes see this spell effect clickie there
- check auction house 2 times per day, at morning and evening
- blur/displacement spells are alternative, but it gets -5% and extra -5% per skull on reaper (you get 10% instead of 20% on R1)
- other alternative is using experimental tumble (you need to put only 1 point during level up once) for high dodge bonus (it is short, but can be life saver and helps me all the time on spell casters)

Deathblock:
- important around level 8-10
- auction house
- yellow augment level 12, but rare to buy
- deathward spell or rare potion, but can be dispelled
- cannith crafting

Spell Power:
- auction house
- potency for universal spell power or spell lore for universal spell critical, but is lower
- red augment (red/orange/purple slots - usually on weapons and orbs), monster hunter in hall of heroes sells level 4/8 +55/70 spell power of your choice for 200/400 remnants
- alternatively, collectors in market place sell level 4/8 red augments of your choice for astral shards
- cannith crafting allows you to craft rings with combination of any spell power and critical

RNG:
- named item has about 10/20/30% declared chance on normal/hard/elite+reaper, but each possible named item makes it lower
- it is not unusual that even with 50% probability, you would get nothing many times in a row, because there is no memory and every drop is independent, but I am not going to discuss probability in details

If you can not find what you need, then use /trade or lfm to ask people for help and there is high chance someone will contact you (it worked everytime I needed some ingredients for crafting and sometimes for other unbound things).
If you are on Moonsea, then I can give you any red augment you need, because I have a lot of remnants.

I don't know if this applies, I ran a sharn quest, No Refunds, I don't know how many times for the arti helm, The Arcsteel Brim, never saw it on elite. The one time i decided to retry I did on hard and the helm dropped. I don't do rerolls. Same thing with Legendary Keylock Ring, Never saw on elite or reaper, but there it was on hard.
According to the devs, in Sharn all items are weighted equally on the table. What you're observing is just pure RNG malarky.

My problem is the fun part of the game for me is collecting and using items. If I'm not doing that I'm not having fun. So why should I still play?

This is why I won't buy or play any of the garbage content. Its not going to be fun for me. If SSG won't change track, my only recourse is to go find a new game where I can go back to having fun.

Every game with pure RNG will have similar results (there are topics with complaining about it on other gaming forums too) unless there is something extra involved like tokens or warranty after X tries.
Good thing that party members can share their loot, but this is not helping players who prefer solo.

Yes, I find that items drop on hard as swell, including Jibbers. Though if you want a reaper bonus on an item you might find R3 best.

I think that the Threnal chain still might have it as well. Good if you are unlucky pulling a rat catcher.

Edit: sorry, that isn't ftp...
Yea threnal and sorrowdusk... got to really want that ratcatcher or snowstar. Glad it exists though or i would still be there hoping it drops.

They can say it, but is it true?
I don't think so.

I'm almost going to 21 racials and only dropped TWO (one heroic and one legendary) Hallowed Trails (cloak from House of Pain) and still have to see any Glass Heart (Docente from Finding Dorris) or Delicate Thimbletips (Gloves from Soul Survivor) to give a go to a BotFeyWarlock i'm wanting to.

21 Racials means, since I have done Finding Dorris and Soul Survivor on Reaper, Elite and Hard each life, at least 63 times each quest. I might have gave plethoras of Sinsoul, Spectre Boots, Solid Sound, The Hook and Twisted Missile as Sentient Food.

Is too much bad luck or this isn't "weighted equally" at all.

Well we're both level 14, so neither of us gets any XP anyway. Goes to show how behind I am on gear that I'm chasing a level 6 ring.

Why are you farming an item which would be used for maybe a couple of levels? Also, why not farm it at level 34 and just obliterate everything?

Every game with pure RNG will have similar results
Every game with pure RNG does not have broken/bugged RNG. In fact I would wager a large percentage of them don't. DDO's bugged drop rates coupled with this stupid "rare" loot mechanic make getting items literally impossible.

They can say it, but is it true?
I don't think so.

I don't believe they would lie to us. But that still doesn't make it true.

I read this somewhere else but it matches what I'm seeing: DDO's RNG has a "clumping" problem where the generated numbers don't add up but instead of a random distribution certain numbers clump together.

Is too much bad luck or this isn't "weighted equally" at all.

So again this is only a theory but it works out like so: let's say everything on the table is weighted equally, but your RNG is "clumping". Hallowed Trail comes from House of Pain, which has 6 items on its loot table.

That means on a D100 role Item 1 is 1-16, item two is 16-33, etc, etc. Now let's say you're in a clump rolling mostly 30-70 with few 1s and few 100s. You're never going to get anything from the beginning or the end of the table.

Its harder to notice in a 4 item table where everything has 1-25, but in a 6 item it makes getting specific things aggravating as all hell.

What's interesting is its different for everyone on that quest. Me I couldn't get a Family Recruit Sigil without doing high hundreds of runs.

Then I got 3 in a row.

Snowstar is easy to get. Ratcatcher if you are unlucky and its not on the list is just soul destroying.

at least 63 times each quest
just saying not to pull (item you want )from 5 items you got about 1% (considering hard diff) - low but far from impossible. if you consider 95% a guarantee chance you would be "guaranteed" item in 40ish runs so indeed unlucky.
