I don't understand the nerfing paradigm

you get shout SLA at level 3. but sure the playstyle is "dead"
So this is a really good example of a false equivocation. Nice job, hooray for you. Shout and Sonic Blast are 2 different spells, different range, function and purpose. To get that SLA fully functional you need 13 points in the tree. The spells still shoots off to the side if you are moving a bug that never was fixed. and doesn't scale correctly... Yes the playstyle is dead, if you cut the right arm off of something and leave the left arm, well cool.

This appears to be a really good thread to check out who the socks are, they crawl right up out from under their rocks in any thread about nerfing, no need to name anyone, the crusaders do it for us.

I was having a break during Sonic Blast's now legendary era of dominance. An AoE damage spell on a non-resisted element that also dazes sounds insanely OP for level one. It sounds like it needed a nerd.
Yeah it is insane that they are still upset about that one.

Sonic blast has been an AOE spell with no save since... basically forever? Literally everything you said of Sonic Blast has always been true, they just buffed the damage. They could've... y'know, just nerfed the damage if that was too much.

But then again, spells like burning hands keep pace with the damage, at least in the early levels. Is the problem having no save? Just give it a save for half, then if that's the issue. Making it single-target just kills the damage too hard. Not to mention, all the other single-target level one spells scale to level 10 with higher hit dice. So it's 8d6+8 compared to 10d6+20 on all the other ones, meaning that sonic blast is weaker than the other level 1 single target spells, and is only barely stronger even if you save for half damage (basically, sonic blast does 8 points of damage more than half of the other ones).

So again, even if it was overtuned, they took a slightly overtuned spell and made it almost useless. Why? It would be far better to just make it viable.

Well, I still use it on my Stormsinger lives. And it has great utility at every level for smashing boxes. That's more use than can be said of most level 1 spells.

Yeah they should give it a bigger cooldown so that players cant smash groups of crates, this will be an upcoming new nerf.

The problem with most nerfs that SSG comes up with is that the balancing just seems to be causing tedium more than balancing out over poweredness.

Watch them do it because if a bard has to smash 100 boxes in a quest by hand, think of all the XP pot time they will incur.. This is why they pay people to come on the forums and post for nerfs. Its a money scheme.
