Iconic Bank Mule - 32 Point Tabaxi Trailblazer Sorc

Heyo all,

Here is the bank mule build that I have been using when making bank alts.
It is pretty simple and gets the job done.

I just use a crafted scepter with electric spell power and spell crit.
Then run around and spam Chain Lightning.

Just tried to roll one of these on a different server...I can pick Tabaxi...and I can confirm I had 32-build points...but I feel I'm missing something?
1. I couldn't get the stats as above...had to go STR:14, DEX:10, CON:15, INT/WIS:8, CHA:18
2. Couldn't select Lawful (probably due to #3)
3. Starting as Barbarian?

Would this require a Heart of Wood + 1 to go back, select Monk and change alignment?*
*Note: And the 'free' Heart of Wood doesn't allow you to change those...does it?

If my assumption (again, pardon my newbie ignorance :)) above is correct...would you have to start the character, level to 15, then TR with the Heart of Wood and restart/relevel to 15?

Thanks a bunch for putting things together...just trying to wrap my head around the above couple niggly bits :)

For completeness, and since this is a Mule, you could also list the minimum Agents of Argonesson quests to earn a free Portable Hole. At only 75 Favor, that's the two QL 10 "Newcomer" quests plus a half-dozen Gianthold, pretty quick for any half-decent L15 build (def inc. this one).

(The OP's "final" Cha stat listing of 28 implies a +5 Cha Tome, so if you're going toward earning that for free you'll need a long list of quests to get there. Or you could just get a +2 @ 1,750 Favor, depending on your tolerance for running "alts".)

Definitely due to #3. Barbs (and Bards) cannot be Lawful.

(Some few other classes have alignment restrictions as well, spec Monk, Palis, Druids, and Warlocks (depending on their chosen Pact).

Most assumptions correct - grats! (but see Note below)

The free Lesser HoW is a simple LHoW, no "+#" attached to it, so no class changes.

When using any LHoW, you must first take all levels that you have earned XP for - and since Iconics start w/ enough XP for Level 15, yes, you must level them up to 15 before going that route. (The good news is that, since you're completely re-building it, only your class choice matter, and you can pick the details of stats/feats/skills at random, speeding up that process.)

(Note - a +1 LHoW does not include/allow an alignment change! Gotta get that right the first time! In your case of wanting Monk -> Barbarian, you'd also need an Alignment Change, available in the Store for 495 DP. BUT... since you can't "Alignment Change" a Monk out of Lawful, the process would be: 1) +1 LHoW to change Monk to X (non-Barb, since still Lawful), 2) Alignment Change, 3) use a SECOND +1 LHoW to get Barb. Probably not worth it. :( )

However, don't feel locked in to Trailblazer. There is an older (original?) version of this mule that uses Morninglord (Cleric 1, starts w semi-adequate gear) or PDK (Fighter 1 for +Feat). This version uses 2 Levels of Barb for sprinting (for running a now-obsolete Festival goal), but even w just Barb 1 you get the +10 Speed without the need for a +1 LHoW. All just variations on a theme - you don't need to min-max for power so lots of freedom to maximize for mule functionality.

Tabaxi is different than a Tabaxi Trailblazer. You can't choose barb on a Trailblazer initially at all, it's impossible, since they're automatically Lawful

If you are building a mule, why not just start with an iconic, run 300 favor of quests (150 Coin Lord and 150 House K) instead of starting at level 1?

Which is why Socratesbastardson mentions he may have chosen Razorclaw shifter on accident instead.

a) Yeah...mea culpa...I hadn't realized, I was looking at Razorclaw, NOT Tabaxi! All the pluses to Socratesbastardson for picking up my error!

I'm sure that is also why the alignment is off...and the stat allocation is off :)

HUGE kudos to C-Dog for the detailed response though! Also, thanks for the link to the Morninglord Iconic mule! I'd seen that one a while back, but lost it in the new forum shuffle (and didn't have a bookmark!)! Is the only way to get Morninglord iconic via points now? Or is it in a pack/expansion like some of the others?

If you have Falconry universal tree, an 8 point investment into Falconry is the best possible thing you could do for your bank mules. (Also, make sure Strength isn't your dump stat so you can actually hold all that gear)

The quests are great, I also tried Bladeforged pal1/Sorc14 and Bladeforged pal1/wiz14 - I did wiz with EK and PM - the wiz 'seemed' faster chain lightning did not hit as many as I would have hoped.

Np - the oldies are often the goldies. One advantage of the Morninglord is the starting gear, which includes Combustion 78/Fire Lore 15 items, so you're half-way there to gearing for an Electric/Fire build.


At the end of the day, this build is, in many ways, just a "template" - plug almost any Iconic in w/ a bunch of Sorcie levels and you'll have almost* the same end result, just a diff spin off it (e.g. see reply below).

One ~could~ go Sorcie, and grab a 2nd level of Pali for the Saving Throw bonus - +8 to all 3 saves is handy for a build that won't deserve gear-farming, and all you're losing is Delayed Blast Fireball* on what is (mostly) an Electric Sorc build. Yes, and +1 Caster Level - but this isn't a build designed to crush it at end game, it's just a mule - remember that. :cool:

(* or Greater Teleport or Waves of Fatigue, ymmv on most useful choice here)​
 
just wanted to say thanks for this, great build!
One thing I've found having ran this a few times now, replacing quicken or empower with enlarge makes things easier. The only remotely difficult quest is Von 3, and this helps make a lot of the encounters easier, for my playstyle at least.

Great build! I can heavily recommend getting a Firestorm Conduit (quarterstaff, from Sharn pt1), which has pretty much every stat you want in one convenient package - fire and lightning lore, spellpower, evoc DC, and even +Caster Level.

I just made an iconic bank toon and used your list of quests so ty for that.

Something to maybe add would be that since the von3 Int requirement is 11 most toons can make do with a pot of foxes cunning.

Since all I had available was Tiefling I just went with Bard and built for Spellsinger to use the sonic SLAs, its probably not as good damage wise vs sorc but did the trick. I added in some swashbuckler to get the extra runspeed which really made the favour farming easy.
