Ubers don't mix with the common folkAre these uber reaper players who are also joining normal groups in the room with us right now?
Nah. This game is real gacha
I honestly miss the asian crew from Sarlona. They used to open r10s public and just solo them with whatever was flavour of the month and we'd leech rxp and occasionally give them a rez or bard buffsUbers don't mix with the common folk![]()
You're working from an assumption that Player A's power is all from past lives (or reaper points) and that Player B's weakness is the lack of those. Build, gear, game knowledge all matter. It's entirely possible for a person with no past lives and no RP to solo R1s while leveling with no issues. There's also players out there who've been playing for years, have tons (if not all the past lives), that still get beat up when they go into reapers.
So the real heart of this is you wanted to keep playing with that specific player but you outlevelled him. Seeing as this connotates that you aren't in a static group with this individual you must understand that your playtime/ xp efficiency will always be different from others. Even if you started a life at the same time, unless you commit to a static group and stick to being in level of that group then this expectation of getting to party with people, get full xp(or less less xp), and not have to worry about level gap isn't realistic. If you're really wanting to quest with them in the future just discuss schedules and coordinate to have a static group for a life.Wait.. so a level 30 can just powerlevel a level 15 and the level gap thing doesnt apply? SERIOUSLY?? LMFAO!
Weird how no one else has mentioned that. So that basically validates what I have been saying because if its not enabled (the penalty) for epic, then why the hell is it enabled for non epics? Unless I misunderstood you that is. Furthermore, why are so many things not enabled in epic but they are for heroic, like for instance the ability to skip to elite without having to do N/H/E progression. Man so many things about this game don't make sense.
And to all the haters who responded the way they did, are you seriously that incensed about something that will (yet again), literally improve the life of everyone in the game at least a little bit that you have to come on here and call me out and throw shade? really? REALLY?
Also to everyone here that responded in a certain way - I am fully aware about the ramifications allowing the level gap to be wider, or the penalty to be lesser. Look, it's real simple ok - even if they HALVED the "powerleveling penalty" it would help noobs to level with people so they arent forced to solo. There arent many NON-R1 lfm's up, and if like I said in another thread, if a new player wants to join an LFM and its only gonna be an R1, this will help them. Maybe it will give them more choice or a more diverse pool of players leveling. Heck, last night I had to apologize to the guy about costing him 50% of his experience that run, and I wasnt able to take him on any others because I didnt want to hose his experience, and he was an awesome guy. I felt bad because it felt like I was "leaving him behind". What do you think that person did? He either, A). Soloed, B). Joined an LFM that was his level bracket (most likely an R1), C.) logged off or D.) something else, who knows. The point is, the night before when we had played extensively for a while together - we had fun. I outleveled him, and now we can't play together cause of this arbitrary level penalty thing.
Look I get it, I probably would have outleveled him any way if the level penalty was fixed in the manner I am suggesting, but at least it would have given us more time together before that happened or the level penalty would have been LESS HARSH, which is what this post is about, it's literally about quality of life, why is that such a bad thing? I also understand how many people here perceive this as "little to no issue", but that's a two-way street, if its such a small issue - why do you protest so?
To the people who actually responded constructively, I value your feedback and appreciate it, you do have very valid points.
No, he will just make another post.do we need to start an argument to get this locked?
Sounds like you should design your own game.Wait.. so a level 30 can just powerlevel a level 15 and the level gap thing doesnt apply? SERIOUSLY?? LMFAO!

The XP nerf has always been in the game. It is not about whether player A or B can solo or about how many pastlives a player has. It is to stop high level players power leveling other players period. It is a game policy. So basically here's the deal.
Player A has 200 PLs and is level 8 and can solo pretty much everything at level on R1, let alone elite with practically no issue whatsoever.
Player B has NO past lives, but is level 15 and can solo level 8 stuff just as effectively as Player A.
I mean I get why you don't want people to powerlevel one another, but I just did a whisperdoom's spawn with some people and one guy was FOUR LEVELS below me and he was getting his exp nerfed by FIFTY PERCENT....
Like... WHAT?
If we equate past lives, and reaper points and these allow people to be extremely strong compared to those OF THE SAME LEVEL who are not, but its perfectly fine if those people group up - then why is the powerleveling penalty so important? Is that not the same thing? Wouldn't changing this to not be so extreme, say the 4 level mark be a 10 or even 20% penalty or let it be SIX levels above and the penalty kicks in? I just thought, man 4 levels below me isn't too bad is it?
I guess it is :(
This would be no different than if I was the guys same level but had so many PLs with completionist/what-have-you I coulda just run the thing on R1 and it would have been as easy for me as if it was on norm, but he was the same level so no penalty. This is literally no different than a higher level player "running someone though something", is it not? Am I going crazy? Am I being unreasonable here? Someone please help me out and make sense of this for me please.
Clarification and disclaimer: I am in no way shape or form asking for nerfs for the people who have lots of past lives, or run only reaper and have lots of reaper points. What i AM asking for is for you, SSG to please take a look at this arbitrary powerleveling penalty and tweak it so it is not so dang extreme.
Some examples(already outlined above, but I will put here for sake of clarity):
Increase the level gap for the first tier of the penalty (the 50% one) to 6 levels.
-OR-
Leave the gap's as is, and lower the penalty BY AT LEAST HALF. So something like first tier of penalty, they take a -25% exp penalty, instead of 50%. So on and so forth.
Now some of you might say, well this is to prevent abuse and to keep people from leveling their alt army.. Ok I have already addressed this with the people extremely powered and running R1's. I will give you an anecdote.
Lets say I've got my reaper wings and like 200 reaper points and a bunch of past lives, ive basically beat DDO in a sense but I wanna level an alt up on another account or something weird. Whats stopping me from doing that, having them come into a dungeon and sit at entrance and trying to circumvent afk while I zerg the dungeon on R1 and they not only get a ton of exp but reaper points AND LOOT i guess as well. I could just get em killed and let them hide in my pocket while I stomp the dungeon. I could be wrong but theres probly people literally doing that right now. This means those alts are not only getting leveled very fast, they are also getting reaper points very fast, as well as FAVOR.
So it's basically the same thing. If it isn't someone please chime in and correct me and explain how I am wrong. So my question is this, why are non reaper people yet again getting penalized for something that people running only R1's are able to enjoy with no issues or qualms?
Again I have nothing wrong with people doing only reaper, what I have a problem with is dev oversight and favoritism and imbalances. Maybe I am just crazy, or unreasonable or delusional and if that is so, I apologize in advance, but something feels wrong with the powerleveling penalty.
I guess this reflects the point of view of a player. A player could play the game, at level play through a dungeon and play the game in a way that the quest was designed to be played. There is a narrative, a story with objectives etc. or and how sadly this game has become something quite different. A game where quests are viewed as a mechanism to obtain XP, the narrative, objectives etc are ignored and not engaged with and enjoyed because a quest and leveling is a XP/minute equation. Now reflect on the PnP version of Dungeons and Dragons, isnt that game about story telling, problem solving and co-op play?Where did I say anything about a level 4 being in a sharn group? I also never said >I< was level 15. I also never said anything about Sharn. I dont get whats so hard to understand about this. What I am saying is a level 8 with tons of PLs and Reaper points in an R1 level 8 instance is as powerful as if that particular level 15 with NO reaper points and NO PL's was to waltz into a LEVEL 8 INSTANCE.
FURTHER CLARIFICATION: You got two guys. One is level 8 with a bunch of PLs and one is a level 15 free to play dude with no PL and no reaper points, ok? The level 8 in a R1 level 8 dungeon will be more powerful if not more powerful to THAT content, as a level 15 - the guy with no reaper points, no PL's would be if he went into a dungeon of the same level.... That is level 8. So lets say he goes to farm something or get favor, I dont care - the guy (the level 15) is in the level 8 quest on elite or whatever. The level 15 would be JUST AS POWERFUL in a level 8 dungeon with no PL's and no REAPER POINTS as the level 8 would be in the dungeon of SAME LEVEL, but R1.
My issue with the OP is, its all about player power. If I can get a guy a bunch of PL's and a bunch of reaper points, to be just as strong as the guy in the level 8 instance with the same power level, which would be the same power level of a level 15 guy STAT WISE in a level 8 dungeon, whats stopping me from zerging it and having someone with no reaper points, no PLs. That power gap between me and the player I am "powerleveling" because I have lots of reaper points and PLs is NO DIFFERENT than say, a level 15 powerleveling a level 8 in a dungeon. The issue here is in one scenario there is a penalty, and in the other there is not.
I literally have no idea how to explain it more plainly than that. I never said I was level 15. I never said i was running a level 4 person. I never said anything about Sharn. I mean...
Y'all are cool and all but sometimes you should really brush up on your reading comprehension skills, that is unless you guys are just trying to troll me. And if that's the case, then good one!
(Maybe I worded it weirdly or something, maybe I should have clarified. In my anecdote about costing the guy -50% experience, I was level 13 and he was level 9. I didnt realize that someone a mere FOUR levels below me would have their exp nerfed by 50 friggin percent and I was kinda taken aback by that. I hope this clears up any misunderstandings. About the level 8 and level 15 thing, that was totally a separate thing. My main point about this still stands.)
Since 2010 we are running around preventing some extraplanar creature to acquire the Codex of Power... this Codex has so many pages, I think it will never end...Well DDO still has a limited narrative.
The penalty is not a problem.I have not been Power Levelled in over 7 YEARS.
Why is this penalty a problem all of the sudden?
I do wish there was a way for buddies who are lower level to join and not get penalized on Xp but there’s a reason for that.
This creature was Vecna, and it ended at the end of Vecna Denied, or so it seems.Since 2010 we are running around preventing some extraplanar creature to acquire the Codex of Power... this Codex has so many pages, I think it will never end...
Now was Vecna... back in the day was Harry Potter Kritos... next will be another and another and another... DDO took the Codex of Infinite Planes and turned it into an endless macguffin to squeeze their lack of criativity. This creature was Vecna, and it ended at the end of Vecna Denied, or so it seems.
