I'm looking for a good jack of all trades solo leveling build for TR'ing

Post title basically says it all, but to get more specific... I'm looking for a build that is good for solo leveling, has good AOE and good single target DPS as well, has decent survivability, self healing and does traps!

Currently I'm using a Strimtom build.. his "Blightcaster" build from nearly 2 years ago...and it's a fantastic build, it does everything except trapping (great AOE, good single target DPS, decent survival and decent self healing)... and unfortunately you can't swap out 1 or 2 levels of druid for rogue because the build is reliant on 20 levels of druid.

So I'm looking for a build that does it all, and that is not dependent on the race... as I will be using this for TR'ing for completionist and will be swapping out races as I go!

Hardcore casual soloist
17 wiz 3 Arti inqui. Strong leveling dps, strong heals, lots of buffs and utility, trapping, totally race agnostic, peaks early in heroic

12 bard 6 dlord 2 rogue. Same as above but with melee.

2 Rogue/18 wiz (pale master). You get trapping, buffs, dps, self heals (negative energy heals) and evasion (use the feat Insightful Reflexes).

PS: You probably won't need evasion at low levels so take the 2nd level of rogue at level 7 or so and you can back-fill some of your skills.

You know a pure dark apostate can spot and search out traps. No real need to disable them if you are just power levelling to 20 for past lives.

2 rogue, 18 druid is a fun good jack off trades build.
Start wolf, go winter with ice spells, conclude dire bear with that jump ability 🤣.
It was one of the most entertaining builds I ever made.
Choose human, take dragonmark of passage and you also get DD and teleports!
Stats? Some on wisdom and int and a lot of strength!

Greater Death Aura isn't super necessary for a melee EK but also depends on what difficulty you are running on.
This split is also great for an inquisitive and only need to put points in Search & Disable Device because inquis core gives auto search.

I made a twf EK/Dark Hunter not too long ago which was great solo
  • Wore Medium Armor in heroics, then switched to Light Armor when got evasion from Shadowdancer.
  • Can summon the Dark Wolf from Dark Hunter early levels to help take hits and pull levers
    • I then switched to skele when it got stronger and my aura healed him - removed this enhancement altogether in epics in favor of more negative heal amp
  • Defenses:
    • Wraith Form gave good extra incorporeality. Shadowdancer mantle gives even more
    • Wear Negative Healing amp items. This will help a lot with self healing
    • Temp HP will massively help in epics. Shard Storm & Rejuv Cocoon helped.
  • Being INT-based getting all trapping skills was no trouble. I took the 2 levels in Dark Hunter first to increase BAB for feat progression as wizards have little.
  • Weapons, Mainhand - Wielded a Kukri (Midnight Greetings) and Scimitar offhand (Mirage). So was able to use rapid slash. THIS IS A FANTASTIC STRIKE
  • Core 3 in Pale Master was Inflict Weariness for the negative level drains. This went off ALL THE TIME and just straight up chunked % hp off on crits. I also put Ruby of the Endless Night for more level drains on both weapons (if you are on Shadowdale, I can happily trade some).
    • As soon as you get this enhancement, switch to big crit range weaps like Kukri/Scimitars.
    • It is important to have accuracy and crit confirmation items (e.g. The Blood Stone)
    • Epic Midnight Greetings give extra enhancement bonus based on your INT score (up to 10, vs 6).
    • Epic Mirage has a really big threat range (13-20 with improved critical slash). Weapon multi is not that important on this build
  • The 3 points in Eladrin here gave me auto trap spot
  • The trance helps with melee damage, but it wasn't actually needed and took it last for epics.
  • Tactics:
    • Put CC (like web) down, Use Eldritch Tempest as a starter hit to drain levels, then when their DCs are lowered can either insta-kill them or simply continue to hack n slash with your other attacks & spells.
Point allocation priority:
  • INT to hit in harper
  • Vistani Rapid Slash
  • Level 5 - Wraith form
  • Vistani enhancements (until Deadly Blades)
  • Level 8 - Inflict Weariness
  • Eldritch Knight
  • Insert more neg amp from Pale Master here
  • late levels - vistani t4, Harper trance

Good morning. I went to sleep after my post above. No, I do not have a link to a build.
I see your post above, and it looks good. I would however suggest one change: Take those extra skill points where you put 4 points into Hide, Move Silently and Swim and put them (cross-class) into Heal: Heal skill is the skill that adds to Negative spell power much as Spellcraft adds to the elemental (acid, cold, electric, fire) damage.
Lastly....I hope you have built the toon and started playing and leveling. Worrying over the perfect build doesn't get you the past lives you are craving and as you play the toon you will learn what you like and don't like and what works and doesn't and you can tweak the build until you find the exact build you like :)

PS: Resist Energy, one of the BEST protective spells in the game, and often overlooked ;)

Good points ... I will modify the build a little for the Heal skill.

As for "worrying over the perfect build" ... ya, no worries there. I've been playing this current build for MANY past lives and had another build for MANY more past lives... well the "MANY" is relative, I have I think 42 past lives.

My current build could be modified to add in 1-2 levels of rogue and that would work great, if I only went to lvl 20 and then TR's ... which is something I may end up doing at some point. But for now I still want those Epic past lives, 13 down!

1 of my 2 main "alts" is a Pale Master ... I used his build as a template for this one I made above ...hoping it works better than the last Pale Master/Rogue build I made a few years back that hurt so much in the 20+ levels that I ended up TR'ing early to get out of it!

Hmmmm.... thinking about it now... the other build I used to use for TR'ing all the time was a Favored Soul Inquisitive using crossbows (was it a great crossbow? I don't recall)... and he had trapping skills and of course healing, being a favored soul, and his single target DPS was decent, but it was his lack of AOE that REALLY slowed him down. But since that update a while back giving AOE to bows and crossbows, maybe that build or one similar could work better now!

Hmmm... I'm not really a "build" builder, because I just don't really know enough about all the different skills/stats/enhancements/etc... and how they all work together and apart to make a good build... but this is something I may have to look into

Well, after thinking about it for a bit and realizing that the old Favoured Soul Inquisitive build uses Arcane Archer Enhancement tree AND Shiradi Champion Epic Destiny tree... both of which the new Ranged AOE attacks... I decided to try and build a new one using the old build as a template (I think the old build is a Strimtom build..but not sure any longer).

I, of course made some modifications ... some of the tree selections simply aren't there any longer and others may have been moved around. But here is my build (using Half-Elf because that's going to be my next 3 lives), and of course specific to my past lives (41 I think or maybe 43);

I'm going to try this build next as is... unless anyone has any improvements!

I love the 2 rog / 18 wiz PM EK personally - it's survivable and easy to solo for everything up to epics. I generally take extend as my first metamagic, as I mostly cast buffs. I also don't bother with archmage, but I do put enough into harper to get INT to damage. With some canith crafted trap gear, you'll be good to get traps all the way up. Put some spare skill points into UMD, and you can also res, heal-scroll, restore party members, etc. I typically take the second level of rogue just after I get level 4 spells, so level 9 - that's also a good point to catch up your rog skills.

It does suffer a bit at epic levels - over 20, you're slipping on the damage output, although survivability is good. But being a jack or all trades means you're just not great at anything. Great utility, faster ways to solo. For just banging out racials, though, it's brilliant - works just fine for any race you like, nice quick runs to 20.

Well for one, AA attacks are Bow only, they wont work with Xbows, so that's not a good use of AP. You can get bonus Imbue dice from AA, that's about it, and its generally not worth it.

FvS Inqui build is going to be 17 Fvs/3 Arti, 41 Inqui 13 BE (Shatter Defense) 26 WS. That gives you 2 AOE attacks that work fully with DXB. Does mean you'll need to take Precise Shot and Rapid Shot manually, though.

Pin also is a pretty bad Epic Strike. It's AOE, but it only fires one bolt, and its got a really long cooldown. The Shadowdancer strike is better - its the same one-bolt AOE, but has a quicker CD, has +3/+3 crit profile, and applies a bunch of buffs and debuffs.

If anyone has any thoughts or ideas for improvements? Again, this is mainly for a solo leveling build for TR'ing, leveling 1-30 then double TR'ing. I wanted good single and AOE damage, decent healing, decent survivability and trapping.

I'm going to try this build next as is... unless anyone has any improvements!
Anything changes from the original build would be better, that source of supplied builds is best used to introduce new players to the game with very basic builds, thats about all they are good for.

Well for one, AA attacks are Bow only, they wont work with Xbows, so that's not a good use of AP.

You can get bonus Imbue dice from AA, that's about it, and its generally not worth it.

FvS Inqui build is going to be 17 Fvs/3 Arti, 41 Inqui 13 BE (Shatter Defense) 26 WS. That gives you 2 AOE attacks that work fully with DXB. Does mean you'll need to take Precise Shot and Rapid Shot manually, though.

Pin also is a pretty bad Epic Strike. It's AOE, but it only fires one bolt, and its got a really long cooldown. The Shadowdancer strike is better - its the same one-bolt AOE, but has a quicker CD, has +3/+3 crit profile, and applies a bunch of buffs and debuffs.

Sounds like I should look into this 17 Fvs/3, 41 Inqui 13 BE (Shatter Defense) 26 WS build you mention. Sounds like the solution I'm looking for... do you have a link to a build? that would be helpful ... I'll look around and see what I can find

Eh I think that's really all the specific details for it. Its CHA or WIS based, since FvS can use either for combat and trance. Everything else is just standard for ranged: Precision Rapid Shot Precise Shot IC: Ranged Precision, Quicken+Emp Heal or Dodge+Mob, then Patience, OC, Holy Strike, Watchful Eye, Law or Chaos, Eerie Aim, Legendary Aim, Arborea, Titan's Blood after 20.

Post title basically says it all, but to get more specific... I'm looking for a build that is good for solo leveling, has good AOE and good single target DPS as well, has decent survivability, self healing and does traps!

Currently I'm using a Strimtom build.. his "Blightcaster" build from nearly 2 years ago...and it's a fantastic build, it does everything except trapping (great AOE, good single target DPS, decent survival and decent self healing)... and unfortunately you can't swap out 1 or 2 levels of druid for rogue because the build is reliant on 20 levels of druid.

So I'm looking for a build that does it all, and that is not dependent on the race... as I will be using this for TR'ing for completionist and will be swapping out races as I go!

So the goal is 1 to 20 and Racial completionist meaning the same build could be used over and over?

If yes, any INQ build, pure Arty, pure Cleric, pure Blightcaster, Swashbuckler VKF dagger, pure Barb all will easily solo. If you want trapping, INQ, Arty, Swashbuckler (2 Rogue, 3+ Bard, 5+ Dragonlord) will do a great job.

But you need a certain mindset to play the same build and the same dungeons over and over and over. I simply cant do it. I play a different build every life, swapping around ranged, melee, and spells. I would sooner quit the game than spend months doing the same thing over and over where the reward is a tiny little bit more power each time.

My group also sometimes doesnt use pots so we run less frequented dungeons because we need the extra XP.

Rog 1/Brb 2/Warlock 17 is my go-to Batman build. 1st level Rogue, always max Search and Disable, 2 Brb for Blood Tribute (keeps you alive), and Warlock chain blast/evard's tentacles to clear rooms. Its pretty easy street from levels 1-20.
