In game voice is too low

Hi all,

I activated in game voice chat. I could hear that someone was speaking but unless I was at a quiet in game space I couldn't figure out what the person was saying.

Please advice for some workable settings.

Thank you

Its been an ignored complaint for years.

A variety pack of 3rd party chat platforms were used as an alternative.. Now most use Discord.

Would be nice if Dev's would resolve this, but anyone holding their breath for this has long passed away.

I had this issue in 2021. The problem was on my end.
I maxed out my UI game volume settings then did an in-game mic test. I found -
1. sound was coming out of a Bluetooth speaker (in another room) instead of my headphones.
2. the volume on my headphones was turned down.
3. the volume on my computer was turned down.

After making sure my headphones were selected and adjusting the volume on my equipment, I've had no problems with in-game chat.
Many folks use Discord for static groups, guilds, raids, etc.
PUGs might use chat . . . or type really fast.

3rd party apps like Discord aside, something you can do for in-game voice is to raise player volumes up and lower all the other in-game audio, using the sound menu in the options.

Your sound card and/or streaming/capture software may also have an equalizer setting that can be adjusted, and may have save-able presets you can switch to when needed.

You also have to account for the fact someone may not be using a good mic setup, so their audio may be bad no matter what you do on your side.

The ingame sound is a bit wonky. I use as a temporary work around: every other ingame sound is set at 1-3% value, and voice is at 100%. This makes them roughly equal. I'll just adjust music/video volume accordingly outside game.

Always has been.

I have everything @1% & voice at 100% & it still sucks.

Just use discord

When using the in-game voice chat feature there is the ability to alter the volume of each individual in party with you. There should be a green sound wave icon at the top left of their individual status bar, literally on the top left of their class icon/circle. Left click that and you will get a slider bar to adjust the incoming volume of that player.

I hope this helps.

Set all ingame volume at 1~2%, keep voice and master volume at 100%. Pump volume on your headphones / speakers up. This is the only way to make in-game voice chat legible.

Igo try thus!

Make sure you do sound tests outside of the game first in your computers audio settings. Also make sure your audio drivers are up to date.

No need to use discord, there are many guilds that dont use discord and never will including our guilds community, I shall not repeat on the DDO Forums why you should not install discord on your computer but will be happy to tell you in person.

that is the answer. dont give up like most people. once it gets set its not bad
Its still bad
Wasting time jacking up the headset volume then tweaking down every other source of sounds just to barely hear DDO party chat is asinine.
It has been complained about and ignored by Dev's for years.

I have been caught many times cranking up my headset volume to hear a quiet player in DDO party chat then get my ears blown out by some ambient noise like the dong of hitting quest objectives, or mob sounds like the Demon Glabrezu in Endo of the road.

DDO obviously has the capability to control the sound volumes but chose to give us [expletive] volume control range of party chat.
When going through sound settings It feels like i can only scale the volume for party chat from 0-10% while all other sounds have access the full spectrum volume.

Discord does not suffer from these issues it has a crisp and clear audio interface and good volume controls without getting into the other useful communication features.

As to why you hate Discord.. don't care.. it works for me.

thank you for trying, too many people seem to give up. the discord garbage has split us up
No worries I met with him online, got it all sorted out and his voice is working just fine now. Had a great time playing with full access to chatting back and forth, a big shout out to SSG for having an amazing in game voice system.

We had so much fun I forgot to take a moment to talk to him about all the reasons to never use discord or allow it access to your computer.

We had a very good time indeed. I will get used of it and slowly won't need to say twice what I want because I forgot to press F lol

I will play a bit more with the settings and come back for a final update. For now, I will say that in game voice is viable only with a headset.
I'm not going to do any comparison with other solutions. And this thread is about getting DDO in game voice work not finding an alternative.
Thank you
