Installer Issues out of the Ordinary

Hi,

I will preface this post by saying I have looked at seemingly thousands of threads, talked with seemingly hundreds of people, and the same thing keeps happening to me every single time I try to do an install or fresh install of the game and it has reached the point of absurdity. It seems like I am the only one who has had this issues (I'll get to the specifics shortly).

I know (as I worked in tech for decades) that the dev team may be small or overwhelmed, I get it. Some of the teams I led were the same. So I empathize if that is the case.

Also, I have tried every hardware analysis, software that may be conflicting, and 62,000 other things that I have read, been told, or seen. I am also not going to download a ddo-wrapper. I don't need the extras. So I am lost as to what to do at this point because I have A LOT invested in the game after returning back from a lengthy hiatus.

---

Every time I try to do an install, I cannot download over a wired connection or wifi at all. It will stop at 4% and then cycle back to the start of the download when I tried to download the client_map.dat files (or whatever those files were with all the extra 3.5gbs you can add on). Today, it downloaded to 55%, then cycled back to 26% at the client_sound.dat portion of the download.

I have the anti-virus off and the firewall off. I had the 64-bit client checked off. I ran it as admin. So I can assure you I have done most of (if not all the things).

Specs:

Graphics card: NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 4070 TI
Processor: Intel Core I7-14700KF
Motherboard: ASUS PRIME Z790-P WiFi D4
Memory: 64GB META RGB DDR4 3600MHz
OS: Windows 11 Home

Any help getting up and running again would be great and appreciated, thanks!

In this attempt at an install, the installer is getting to client_gamelogic.dat, downloads the file, seems to load that .dat file, then cycles back to 0% and starts the process all over again.

I can do things others can't...
The downloads if I'm not mistaken come in chunks and has their own hash code to confirm everything is OK before installing proper. If it's cycling back and attempting again, this could potentially signal an issue with hardware; notably the Memory, Storage or CPU. Are any of these overclocked? Or undervolted too extremely?

Unfortunately, my other computer is a Mac.

this is still do-able, u can download CodeWeaver Crossover (or the regular WINE implementation) and use it for 30-days Free Evaluation and download DDO with it, and then zip up the directory and copy it over to your windows, then unzip

or u can install VMWare for 30 days Free Eval and download windows 11 from microsoft, they have some "free student edition" and install DDO inside the Virtual Machine

also personally I choose to Decline installing the high-resolution version when first time downloading it on a new machine/install, so as to just get it done faster...u can install high-res version later on

I was going to suggest this too but i thought sneakernet was easier lol.

I had this same issue last year so i asked my son to bring the install folder over to me after he updated and NPs. No issues since then.

There is also steam install. Move the game folder out of steam after its installed and run it normally.

No, all hardware when I checked and tested was fine. No issues on my end from what I could tell.

Download rate too high saturated the connection causing timeouts?
That may have been it, I'm not sure. I was able to download the game without the high res files, then once I got in, download the high res stuff after and it seems to be all good now.

I had to go the decline route and install the high res stuff after.

I have it all working now. I didn't download the high res stuff and got it running, then after logging in I was able to download the high res files on the wired connection. So for now, it all looks like things are back to "normal". Thanks for all the suggestions and help everyone!
