Servers are down and have been for a while. Try again when they're up - we don't know when as of now

yeah it is still loading on the screen.
Oh lol yeah that's just cuz the servers are down. I was worried you had gotten the forced "update" install that some people are getting. Would recommend not trying to get into the game so you don't get stuck with an 8 hour "fresh install" of the entire game.

Good grief maybe this will actually make them fix the damn code already. This is nonsense.
They couldn't do that. That'd require a complete rewrite of the entire game from the ground up. That's basically remaking the entire game at that point. Wouldn't be "fiscally responsible". Why pay for upgrades when you can do the bare minimum and milk your playerbase before it dies?

Isn't this the best time to do it? With the massive success of baldur's gate, they could get some funding from wizards of the coast, and create a sub section in the company that is remaking the game in unreal 5?

The problem is the dev team isn't large enough to handle that kind of project. The dev team isn't even large enough to properly QA test the content they make.

That's why they would take the funding from wizards and expand the team, or create a 2nd team and keep expanding the 2nd team while they work on a remake.

Have to agree with Toede, BG3 was only able to be completed because there were an absurd number of pre-orders and they launched Early Access to the 1st act for 2 1/2 years. The game essentially crowdfunded itself. WoTC wouldn't help with funding but they'll take whatever % they want so you can use their IP. DDO wouldn't have that luxury, as SSG cannot afford to hire enough people to handle the workload of rewriting the engine, I very seriously doubt they'd get approval for that work from their parent company, AND WoTC would more than likely demand a higher % for the IP.

wizards of the coast is still alive because of ddo. only new funding will come from philanthropy from musk or someone who had some sort of attachment as a child and doesn't want the idea to die
