Installing the game on a different drive

Hi all,

My current C drive is almost full so went to reinstall this on an SSD. However, when I ran the clean uninstall and the launcher to uninstall as well, I get no option to install. I get "repair" instead. Which is defaulting to the C drive again with no way to change the save path.

I've tried saving ddoclient.exe to a different drive to no avail.

I assumed CleanUninstall would wipe registry keys. Surely I don't have to manually delete the keys just to reinstall this on a different drive??

You can literally just move the folder and it still works fine, just cut and paste it elsewhere and update your shortcut to the new location.

Oh well. I uninstalled the game so couldn't do that. But, I think the only way then is to use the Steam version. So installed that which is working now.

Maybe putting a line of text in the ddolive.exe install wizard to say "To install to a different drive do <insert what you guys said above>"

You probably do, and dont call me Shirley

The game is older than modern registry architecture. I wouldnt be surprised if the basic structure of the installer is still basically the 2006 version.

And i woudlnt run the steam version. No need for another useless layer. And yes the install does allow to a differnt drive. Gotta read the screen and not just click through mindlessly.

I only maintain a Steam install so I can use the Steam overlay to buy DDO points with my Steam wallet since people give me gift cards. I haven't done that in quite a while, but it's nice to have the option.

Otherwise the natural version of the DDO client is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY better. The Steam version has big issues, to the point where I'm surprised it runs at all. If you look at a large number of the reviews on Steam, the complaints about the client just not functioning at all are rampant. You'd think SSG would put a serious effort into fixing that but...it's SSG. They are the worst marketers in the history of business.

It's the same exact software. You can quit/exit steam, find DNDlauncher.exe on your computer, and run that directly; that'll bypass the steam overhead. The only time one has to run steam to launch the game is when one wants to use stream wallet/checkout system.

DDO is so old it hardly makes my computer sweat. I can run four instances of the game at once and still have browsers open etc and my PC is hardly even trying. So opening it in Steam is no big deal. I can run a 5th instance at a pinch but start to run out of screen real estate.
