Internet Blips for Half a Second = DDO Dead

Cranjis

Let's make things happen.
So recently I've been having these weird internet issues where my internet will drop for like half a second to two seconds. Usually, its not an issue. Maybe a message won't send instantly, maybe I need to refresh a page, but with DDO it's the end of the world. Time after time, in party or out, my internet will drop for that microsecond, and I get that awesome little red symbol that tells me my server connection is lost. Then I get an alert that my chat connection is lost. Then I crash to desktop if I give it enough time, which is about 5 minutes.
But wait, there's more! After launching DDO back up, getting to character selection, and going in, I simply get stuck on Welcome to Eberron until I eventually crash to desktop once again.
Restarting my pc is the only fix I've found. I'm starting to have to avoid grouping, for fear of dropping in the middle of a quest and having the group awkwardly wait around for 5 minutes (it usually happens conveniently right at the end of quests, during or before boss fights. That makes this issue twice as awesome!)

TL;DR
Internet dropping for a second causes DDO to implode and me having to restart my pc to play again.
Does anyone know any fixes? Or is this gonna have to be a router thing.

At some point something was changed in the game to prevent reconnecting after short drop-outs. My guess is this was an anti-duping measure.

Force quitting the game when the connection is fully lost is faster than waiting and for me anyway there are usually no problems with logging in again.

Well, I'm at the point where the red symbol appears, I wait about 30 seconds, and force shut down. But it doesn't make a difference, I'm still stuck on welcome to eberron

Could be your router. Could be some sort of background process on your computer is messing with the network. If you're on wireless, could be some kind of signal interference. Someone recently had a network print job queued up but it kept failing to print and that would stop DDO from working right (each time the computer tried to re-print in the background).

Well, I've changed locations with the computer to even different buildings, and it's still doing it. No matter where I am, wifi drops for a sec, down it goes. And not wireless.

I notice this happening to me as well. My internet blips because I'm far away from the router.

I have noticed that sometimes i can get DDO to break out of the dreaded red lag lockdown by quickly turning of my wi-fi (at the computer) then turning it back on. Saves me the issue of a computer restart.

get a UPS battery backup that your router/pc plug into to sustain power during power blips.
They range in size and price depending on how much power draw and duration is required..

For this scenario you don't need extended duration so for under $100 you can get ones that will give you 10 min of backup before battery runs out.
Easy pickup off Amazon... most electronics stores will carry some variation.
